Hi !! A weeks days ago I bought on eBay a couple of small head Han Solo figures and I am wondering if the small heads could be from the re-release done in China post 1995. Has someone discussed this topic in the past ? I understand the coo of the re-release is completely different from Kenner’s but could I have bought typical large head solos CUSTOMIZED using the small head re-Release ( . Trying to find info on the re-release to know the differences in mold or head shape or paint but can’t find details. Maybe worthwhile to add a thread guide about these re-releases done in China so people don’t confuse them with Kenner ones or avoid heads switching like what I am describing . As you know , small head Kenner solo prices are high and need to make sure we are getting the real thing. Thanks! Attached pictures of the small head solo I could get if they are of any help. Here are better pictures , it looks I got a COO #2 , is this what you call apple head Yoda ?? In my case the hands and feet match the dark green color of the head ... It is dark green because it degrades ?? Thought it only happened in the head but not the limbs ... Your help is much appreciated ! Rodolfo |

Honestly, the COO is hard to see, at least the copyright symbol. That's the determining factor. I can say this, I just got an "Applehead" Yoda with what appears to be a similar COO, and matches yours in color of head and eyes. A thread shows it here (COO #2) As well as Olive Head Yoda (COO#3) so you can compare. Olive Head Yoda If you have an Applehead, then his accessories are standard for a Kenner pac-man eyes Yoda; triple EPM belt, dark brown cane, and brown snake. But the snake is the tough part. It's a tan, rigid plastic, not the common rubbery brown snake. If you're isn't Applehead, you'll have to do some more digging, and that thread will still be a good place to start |

Mail call today brought the lovely lady in the middle... Light face apps, and a no zip cape (quadruple checked). She's posed next to HK 1 #2 on her right, who came with a zipping cape and has "standard" face apps, and #1 on the left with light face apps, who didn't. @TheJabbaWookie Your smooth cape Leia's eyes look to match, where they appear almost translucent. I'm betting on your cape being early, and being legit. Selling three of my vintage Vaders. #1 is NM/M looks straight off the card, 100% authentic zipping cape and V4 Kenner rounded tip saber. $45 #2 is EX/NM, has some playwear: shoulder scuff, rubs on his chestplate, but his saber is dead mint, a Kenner V1 flat tip transition. Cape zips $35 #3 NM/M figure, VG saber, so the figure itself is very minty. His saber is faded though, lettered with "MM" on the hilt, and it might have been chewed on, but is not badly deformed. It's the proper length, just has some indents. Cape zips. $40 I have pics, pm if interested. I'm looking to sell for a fair market value, and these are extremely nice figures. I am very strict grading my own figures, and I count every defect, no matter how small. So, if you're looking for an AFA style grade, my opinion is #1 = 90+, #2 = 80, #3 = 85, but you can judge for yourself by the pics. *IMPORTANT NOTE* Since I need quick sales, I have also posted these on EBay as well. The starting price for the 7 day auction is $5. The prices here are *cheaper* than the EBay "Buy It Now" prices I have listed. I don't want to appear shady, but EBay is going to take some of what I make, so I'm covering for that. Thanks for looking |

Blog Update #2 (12/09/2017)
Hi Bryan, Matt, thanks for your kind words as always
There's a lot of Luke Jedi MOCs there I know, but every time I see a variation, I try my very best to acquire it for the reference guide. I'm not really crazy! Honest Governor! But, I do want to try to preserve a complete run for current & future generations of vintage collectors to see and use as a guide when buying or collecting their own.
As my first goal, I plan to complete the remaining USA Kenner combinations that I need. Then I would like to move onto “Foreign to USA” variations and see what gap I need to fill there. You correct, I didn’t score a L. Ledy cardback before and I would love to get one if anybody has one for sale
Time passes by very fast indeed. Here are some photos of my collection back in ~2009
The photo below showed my loose figures at the time - I was a rookie then, so trusted the combinations sold to me. Looking at the photo now, I can see some blatant errors in what I bought. Wanting to get the correct accessories with the correct COO figure was one of the main reasons why I stopped buying AFA graded figures. AFA say they are an authority; but, they can’t authenticate which weapon variation goes with what COO mould family. You have better experts here that have published their hard work here on this great forum, so that you authentic a listing yourself.
Details are a little hazy now, but I started actively going for a Luke Jedi Focus in 2009 after stumbling upon a now friend and fellow collector - Shawn K's website (powerofthetoys.com) and seeing a small but beautifully displayed collection of Luke Jedi. I recall seeing all his loose Lukes in little cylindrical cases and the different MOCs on display. I thought to myself that I didn't realise that there were that many!
That was a long time ago and Shawn K's collection is now mightily impressive too! In the beginning, I had no experience of forums and networking. Shawn was very kind, he helped point me to the Forums and previous research posts and introduce me to another big Luke Focus collector Bob M. (Luke Jedi.info). It has to be said, if it wasn't for Shawn, I would of have never known about the Imperial gunnery, and so I would most probably wouldn't be here now. So for that, I am thankful to Shawn's kindness during that initial stage.
Luke Jedi was my favourite figure as a child. As Matt points out he's uber cool: A great sculpt, all black, with cool accessories - that green sabre and gun were awesome to me as a kid. (I love the Super Nes artwork too!) So in the very beginning I already had my own Luke from my childhood, a couple of variants and a lovely MOC that I got authenticated graded in Celebration Europe.
I was planning only to collect the loose variants, but as I started tracking the sales and pouring over other people’s posts, I realised that there were multiple MOC versions, some had different packaging, some had different accessories inside and some had subtle changes that I found interesting as they explained how the loose figures evolved. So, I started taking notes of the Figures I saw and I searched for the MOC, that I needed.
One of the major lessons I learned in the beginning was that not only were there multiple variations and accessories, but more importantly only certain accessories went with certain COO figures and also only went certain variations of the that particular COO. Once I realised that there was a need to share my research, I went ahead and started to build my guide.
A lot of friends and fellow collectors have helped me along the way and are still doing so now; I am very grateful for this. |

This will be probably my biggest purchase for 2017... My beloved EB DT Luke that I had as a kid. I stupidly sold it when I didn't need to and regretted it. I couldn't believe my luck when, after taking a huge break from collecting, it reappeared on eBay just as I re-start the hobby. Figure #2 in the beginning of a long journey... is Squid Head... I checked him over and the gun and accessories look to be all correct. Plan is to pick up a lot of cheaper characters with some more expensive ones in between. Until I have a complete mint set again. |
