OUTSTANDING work,
the details are simply amazing.

This is the picture that puts it into perspective for me- my goodness the detail compared to the end of a pencil!!!

I showed my wife- she's just standing there with her mouth wide open (no dirty comments please   )

The details on the landing gear looks absolutely amazing.

Klaatu is finally back supervising the built. He seems to be happy with the front landing gear.



The two legs to the rear in the making:




And these are all materials the legs are built of:


"LEGO Technic" parts, various wood bandings, various round bandings made of plastic, PS-sheets (polystyrene, 0,75mm), cables and guitar strings.


Two model kits (one is a German tank from Academy and one is an electrical tower from Kibri).I also used some cable straps.

There was loooooads of things that didn't work well or need to be improved! And also my website has timeouts...not sure what is going on. If you have problems to see the pics please let me now and also try again later....I am very sorry!

Before all that trouble the landing gear back legs were finished:





The details for the surface were prepared. Then they were integrated and glued to the surface.
Also the slots for the landing gear were lined and the floor in each of those three slots was made. The mechanism around the pins moving the wings and the landing gear was created as well.









The problems that occured were following:
- The landing gear didn't stay in place while the ship was turned around. The front leg just falls out a few centimeters. I installed a magnet to keep it up (--> guitar strings), but it is always too hard to push them out, or to weak to hold it in place. I need find out that special position.

- I created a hole for a stand. The ship has a landing gear you might say. Well I think it would be nice to have the ship "flying" without the landing gear always beeing lowered. I also think the landing gear is not solid enough to stay over years. I tried my best, including metal contact points but the Lego snaps of sometimes. I could glue it but then I would be never able again to change or improve something.
I tried to give the Khetanna a hole to the balance point. There a detail can be stuck on (with a magnet) or a stand can be inserted (or in future also a hand grip for playing). The problem is that the whole ship deforms just a tiny little bit and the whole mechanism thing doesn't work anymore.



There was way more problems with the instability of the whole thing, the undersurface and so on. Everything was improved also not everything is finished yet. I hope to go on with the details very soon.

The last picture is a very rough comparison of how I try to copy the undersurface and somehow integrate the ILM model:

Woolf this still looks fantastic. I do have one question. How much does this thing weigh? I am thinking that over time a central point of weight displacement like what your talking about when the landing gear is up would create a sagging effect on either end. Also like you said the landing gear themselves over time may bend to the weight. It might be beneficial to create some sort of stable platform the entire ship can rest on with like 6 or more points of contact so the weight of the ship does not cause any sagging or fractures in the outer hull. I know this would not look as great, but if the ship is just displayed in a desert surround you could match the color of the sand to the stand and possibly disguise it somewhat. Hopefully this makes some sense.

...the stand is ready and finished...problems are solved I think....I will need a last test though...

I will weigh it soon....hopefully.

The stand will have only one point to carry the whole thing. I build sth with metal and glued a metal platform to the inner undersurface that carries it. It is looking good...the only ting that may happen is the inner floor beeing to weak....but then I will line this up to with metal...somehow....

And: I still need a  pillar in the middle of the ship...this might be made with a metal core too!

Do not get me wrong: The ship is totally solid made. I looked for quality all around. BUT...it is hollow and made out of different pieces that are also detachable. And I looked for minimum weight....so....it has its points of weakness....although very minimal.

Simply wow!!!   

It's looking great.   Hopefully when you put on the sails on top, it doesn't through off the balance point?

      

...no, but the missing cockpit and the missing bar could be a problem....in a future far far away!!!!

The main parts of the undersurface are now glued on to it. Still missing the cables and wires and all the greebles.






The landing gear meachnism is now in fix position when the ship is turned around and the stand works well now.















The landing gear seems solid enough, but as said I am not sure if it would hold over years. Still some tiny corrections to make, but nearly finsihed:
