I'm pleased to announce that The Imperial Gunnery App is now live! This handy guide can help you on the go and gives you great pics (that zoom great) , information on repros, and other tidbits of information.

The App is only available on Android right now (iTunes is expensive to launch) but we may go IOS at some point. If you're interested, the cost is just $7.99. You can Email TIGAPP@Imperialgunneryforum.com for payment info, App link, and the Secret Code to unlock it. It's a soft launch but almost weapons and accessories are up and running.

The sample shots look pretty nice, congrats on the launch! I'm an iOS man myself, so I'll keep an eye out for when it reaches Apple headquarters.

Looks excellent, but really need an iOS version imo. Personally I don't know anyone that uses Android.

Okay , IOS users will get a link to the app that's HTML5. Your can run the entire app but it's online so obviously you need internet.

To keep the PDFs you just download "Mediatap" in iTunes for free. Your can then download all the PDFs and store them on you iPhone,iPad,etc..

And it'll also work on your PC!!

Jay origianlly asked for help to build up this archive. And many "donated" pictures! I had a deal with Jay: If I donate my pictures then they stay watermarked!

I personally asked to get my pictures removed more then one time on TIG! You know that John! You were always involved. The first time I asked was when Jay was near leaving. I asked again and again over the years….and everything I got was: pressure and blackmailing! So yes…you didn't ban me when I was doing something wrong. Yeah you didn't ban me when SWFUK and other guys wanted me to be kicked out! I did touch up figures and had them for sale! I was caught and refunded Chris! It never happend again…..but you are still trying to blackmail me everytime I am standing up for my rights… my rights on my pictures!

In my opinion I don't think it is cool to use other peoples pictures and remove their watermarks without their consent for financial gain.

Although this looks great John I have to agree with Oli & Wolff, I know I only added a couple of images to this myself, but I have not even been asked if it was ok for it to be done & I have had this happen before with something similar, that time I walked away from collecting SW for 3 years.

As said its a good idea, but IMHO you need to put the guide together ONLY with images you own the rights to or ones you have the full consent to use as this is a dodgy area you're treading, if it had been a free app for all I don't think there would be any problem, but seen as this is something that will be bringing in fundsoff the back of others hard work I can not condone it.

I do hope you reconsider.

Okay, first off all of the pics are on TIG. Every photo is cropped tight so I could build the app in a format that worked. That's it, no dark super secret back door shenanigans. As for this huge profit making machine, dream on. Forget that the app took 200hrs to build (so no "true" cost), I won't even make enough money to cover the expenses for TIG for a year subscription. I'm not taking this money and rolling around in cash.

It's an App, that uses pics from my site, that are condensed.

Wolff - I'll make it easy. If you want to submit pics with your watermark right across the weapons i'll put those up in place. Just match the overall sizing. I have no issue with it at all. I'd rather distance myself from you because plenty of people remember you painted rare figures to rip off fellow collectors, but if it means that much to you I really don't care. I've never removed your watermark from the sites photos have I ? No, because I gave credit where it was due.

If that means putting Wolffs watermark back on it, it still doesnt address the lack of consent, and the fact money being made off his images. I cant imagine the amount of time that was put into making and collecting those images...but if they were in fact taken without permission, altered, and then used for personal gain...it looks pretty bad.

The pics are taken from my site, I didn't steal them off the web.

I had no agreement with Wolff. When I bought the site from Jay (yes I paid money to buy the site) I didn't agree to anything with anyone. If you donate your pics to the main site, they're the sites. If you post on the forum and pull down all your pics then so be it. Wolff donated the pics, that's that.

I'm sorry but I'm not seeing anything more than , at best, a cropping issue gone awry. But it's very obvious that for a mobile app I needed to have everything in that style. If I wanted to be a jerk I could've photoshopped out every weapon but I didn't. I cropped and cleaned every photo (watermarked or not)

I know I am very rarely on here, and post even less, but most of you know me very well from RS. I've been alerted to this situation and asked to comment. Hopefully what I say here carries just a tiny amount of weight.

John, I get what you're saying that you bought a site with these pics on it, but this is dangerously close to the insane backlash Philip Wise got a couple of years ago when he declared any pics submitted to RS became the property of RS to do with as they please. It was such a contentious issue, it was part of the catalyst for Joe Y leaving there for here. What you're doing here is almost the same thing. If someone submits photos and later asks for them to be removed, it shouldn't matter if ownership of the site had changed hands - ownership of those pics should still belong to the contributor. Even watermarking them takes a back seat to a direct request to remove the pics.

Just my stance. I can't force your hand at all, and while your intentions are good, the way it's going down is wrong as it stands right now.

Well I was asked if I was happy to send in some photos of the sole weapon I helped with rather than upload them off my own back, I am always more than happy to help the community if I am able, but to have your images used for something else without prior consent regardless of if they are posted on a public forum or not is IMO unethical.

I made a SW banner for my personal display cabinets many years ago & another member asked if I would forward it on to him to use on his own, so I happily sent it, next thing I know he has like 20 cabinets he is putting them on & then selling on ebay with my header on, I know its not the same thing entirely, but that incident & the then community's support for the member who did it was enough for me to walk away from collection & being part of the form for many years as I felt betrayed & used, you say over 200 hours to work on the images, but consider how many more hours have been put in by those who have taken them in the first place as well as adding details & descriptions to them, not to even go in to watermarks, I am sure it would add up to more than the 200 hours invested.

I try not to be confrontational on the public forums as I think you all know, but I really feel this is not a good move & should have been cleared with any & all members who helped to compile those images.

I like TIG & I like SWF & enjoy coming here to browse & gain knowledge & understanding of the hobby we all love, but I feel it should not come at the expense of others either in time funds or humility.

I see what you're saying, but Philips things was (and still is) wrong. Those photos aren't donated. They're yours plain and simple. The gunnery site is a donated photo. It was given to the site, what happens from there is the property of the site.

Again, this was done on every photo.

Holy cow this thing blew up big time.  I don't have a dog in the hunt, but it all comes down to the copyright ownership of the pic.  If I understand correctly the photos were donated to the imperial gunnery website not the imperial gunnery forum.  Is this correct?  Are there clear defined user acknowledgments on the imperial gunnery website?  Like google, facebook, and many other sites have hidden in the small print does it clearly state that the photos become property of the site and the site has the right to use, publish, reuse, etc... all photos submitted?  I am asking as I don't know.  

I do think that since there are three sites blowing up with post on this it would be beneficial if it was all posted in one place.  Since the question is about the gunnery maybe we can all post to RS?  I know it isn't their fight, but maybe that can be an impartial place where all the post can be read in one spot and comment in one spot.

Oh, how I hate discussions on the same topic across two separate boards. I won't go on about this, but I'll repeat what I wrote on RS, just as a closure to my opinions here.

Not cool man.imo the pics belong to the people who took them.if they were "donated" to the site for the purpose of sharing this info with other members on tig then its not right to use them for something else.at least they could have been asked.removing watermarks they made to identify them as theirs is plain wrong.i appreciate youve put in a lot of work on the app.but your using other peoples work to better it,isnt fair and a quick email asking them if it was ok with them wouldnt have took you much longer.

In the interests of not seeing even more division between our ranks over an issue that is NOT cut and dry... can I offer an alternative viewpoint?

The costs for the app aside for a moment, if we can all agree that the purpose of such an app, and the intent of Wolff and others who donated/gave/posted/hosted the web content are actually aligned: that they were meant to help serious collectors 1.) improve their knowledge 2.) not get burned by scammers and repro artists , then we're halfway to finding a solution already.

Why not create a credits page for the app - somewhere where contributing collectors can be honoured for their contributions to the app, and the hobby?

John's offer to replace the photos in question with other watermarked ones is great, but it sounds like a lot of work for the contributors and him as well.

Can we agree that permission and credit for contributions can and should be made now, today, and carry on helping the community?

I'm really shocked by this. Honestly.

It's a photo of weapons. I took the sites pics (yes the site owns them) and I put them into a smaller format to creat a mobile app version. Again, this is every photo on the site. I don't need permission to do anything with them, they're the sites.

And if they're for the community, isn't what I'm doing exactly for that purpose? I don't see more than 8 people footing the bill for the site (and to those who donate, thank you) so I'm guessing as long as I loose money to support the site it's all good?

I'm not apologizing for Wolff feeling slighted. I took my site, made a mobile version. Anyone who's looked at it can see why I cropped and did what I did. I could cut out Wolffs pics of a blaster and replace it. It'll look exactly the same.

Again, Wolff donated pics. He's not even arguing more than saying Jay agreed to not remove the watermark (which I'm guessing I need to take at his word?).
