Welcome to our first TIG interviewee...

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! 42-310

Screen Name: Hyver
Real Name: Wouter
Location: Belgium
Special Powers: Oddball Insanity!!

Let the questions begin ...

#1 Wouter, welcome to your 10 questions! What is your favourite SW memory? (film or toy line)
There are so many!
Film-wise: I cried when yoda died. There, I said it Smile Not the happiest of emotions to remember, but it goes to show what effect a puppet and some decent cinematography can have on a ten year old!
Film-toy-wise: after seeing SW the first time, on vhs, I dug out the old lego bricks and built a death star trench to re-enact the scene. Not having an x-wing nor dv tie, I used a speeder bike and a die cast slave 1 as protagonists LOL
Toy-wise: I didn't have a wampa as a kid, so I used a naked chief chirpa instead. quite menacing! Very Happy

#2 If not Star Wars... (which other toy line do you collect or would like to collect)
There's so many cool nostaligia-related stuff out there! I decided a good while ago that I will not let myself get lost in any other lines to collect (doing this whole oddball thing is more than enough Wink ) .. with one exception: E.T.! I'm not actively seeking out ET stuff, but if I see something along the way, I will most likely snag it. And then phone home to prepare the mrs for another addition to the junkpile.

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! Il_ful13

#3 Which SW character would you dress up as if you were attending a convention?
Definitely the mouse droid. Or the Force!

#4 Describe your collection in 25 words!
Eclectic vintage global historical random focusless gathering of toys, household items, paraphernalia and thingamabobs that illustrate the vast diversity in old school Star Wars franchise!

#5 What song would you perform at a Karaoke?
The Robots by Kraftwerk.

#6 Time machine question a) It’s 1983... Kenner executives are giving you the power to make any SW themed toy you like! What do you make?
Sticking true to the era (ROTJ), it would be a toss between a) a decent Death Star II (with exploding feature of course); b) Jabba's sail barge (with exploding feature of course); or c) The Endor bunker (with.. yep)

#7 Wouter, what was the name of your favourite toy store as a kid and why was it your favourite?
Steendam! Located in Gent, they had the biggest selection of SW back then. Plus, my dad was always happy to go there, as he knew it from his childhood. Double nostalgia points!

#8 What’s the weirdest/most fun SW item in your collection?
Uneducated visitors seem to be most shocked when they see the sealed Pepperidge Farm cookies!

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! Dsc_4510

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! Dsc_3510

#9 Wouter, you have a pretty insane collection of oddball items! But if you didn't collect oddball items what Star Wars area would you focus on instead?
Hard to say.. I guess the reason why I collect the way I do is that I like it all! But having moved around my junk so many times, perhaps something less space-consuming would be nice. A quest to have a complete cardback collection seems appealing somehow. with a high probability of extending into proofs and chromalins. Or records. Or...

#10 Time machine question b) George Lucas is casting for ROTJ and you’ve just found some rather uncompromising photos of him! You blackmail him and demand a role in ROTJ! Who do you play and why?
Since I'm a bit camera-shy, and I do like great creature design: Amanaman!

Cheers!

Wouter! Many thanks for taking part! You have passed the examination and are free to go cheers

... coming up soon ... our second TIG interviewee!

Welcome to our next TIG interviewee!

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! 10-4210

Screen Name: Darth Stanley
Real Name: Mark
Location: UK
Special Powers: MIB madness!!

Let the questions begin ...

#1 Mark, many thanks for taking part! What is your favourite SW memory? (film or toy line)
I remember walking past a John Menzies store in Airdrie when i lived in Scotland which would've been sometime between 1984-86 & they had a pile of about 15-20 Imperial Shuttles stacked up on the floor, i stood amazed wishing i could have one!

#2 If not Star Wars... (which other toy line do you collect or would like to collect)
I also collect Tron Legacy toys but Spinmaster pulled the plug really early on the line so there isn't a great deal left to collect!

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! Sam_1510

I would like to collect Star Wars Lego but don't have the funds to!

#3 Which SW character would you dress up as if you were attending a convention?
Leia Slave Girl what else!!! Laughing

Only kidding, it would probably be Boba Fett as i wouldn't have to say a lot which suits me fine! Very Happy

#4 Mark, describe your collection in 25 words!
I'm proud of the collection i've put together as i have limited funds & haven't seen anyone with a canadian MIB & Lobot focus before!

#5 What song would you perform at a Karaoke?
Not really into singing but if i had to if my life depended on it, it would be Seperate Ways/Worlds Apart by Journey!

#6 Time machine question a) It’s 1983... Kenner executives are giving you the power to make any SW themed toy you like! What do you make?
It would probably be Jabba's Sail Barge or a proper Star Destroyer as the Darth Vader's Star Destroyer that Kenner pumped out was utter shite!

#7 What was the name of your favourite toy store as a kid and why was it your favourite?
I can't remember the name but there was a little toy stall in the market hall in my home town of Accrington that was ran by an elderley couple. It sold loads of Action Man & Star Wars toys & i used to go there almost every week as i was spoilt when i was a kid.I absolutely loved that stall but sadly it is long gone & there's a clothes stall that sells jeans in its place now!

#8 What’s the weirdest/most fun SW item in your collection?
I don't really have any weird items in my collection but i love my Canadian Battle Damage Tie Fighter. I think it is the only production toy that says Revenge of the Jedi on the packaging (in french though!).

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! Sam_1511
FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! Sam_1512

#9 What advice would you give to a new collector just starting out?
Take your time & don't rush as there's bargains to be found with a little patience!

#10 So far, what parcel have you opened from the postman that has put the biggest smile on your face?
When i got my MIB Darth Vader TIE Fighter, i always wanted one when i was a kid but got a Battle Damaged X Wing in its place! Twisted Evil

*editors note: showing displeasure for any type of X-Wing vehicle will result in an extended probe by a 21B Medical Droid!! Twisted Evil
Please see the nurse on your way out!

lol!

Mark, many thanks once again for taking part! Cool

next week ... two more TIG members will be dragged into the dark recesses of the medical bay!

Welcome to the next TIG Interviewee!

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! 30-5610

Screen Name: Josh
Real Name: Josh
Location: Australia
Special Powers: Dengar Derangement!

Let the questions begin ...

#1 Josh, many thanks for taking part! What is your favourite SW memory? (film or toy line)
Probably both. I watched the movies more as a kid as I didn't have many of the toys. But I have always loved the toys. Well toys in general really.
If you mean favourite moment in the movies or, favourite toy from the line. It would have to be when Vader finally turns good as he watches Luke get lit up by the old man. The moment he does that nod it always gives me a lump in the throat No matter how many times I have seen it now...it's ALWAYS the same.
Toy would be AT AT. It was just a bloody cool vehicle. Loved it in ESB and loved the toy. Sadly the only one I ever saw in the wild as a kid was at my cousins.

#2 If not Star Wars... (which other toy line do you collect or would like to collect)
I collect lots of things. Mostly toys that I remember owning or wanting as a kid, or if it is affiliated with a cartoon I liked.
Most of them are on here. http://somemothersdohaveem.blogspot.com.au/

#3 Which SW character would you dress up as if you were attending a convention?
The trash compactor monster. I could just be myself :grr:

#4 Describe your collection in 25 words!
A whole lot of ugly shit that makes me smile everytime I see it. It reminds me not all the beautiful things in life are pretty. Same as when I look in the mirror Very Happy

#5 What song would you perform at a Karaoke?
Closer by the Nine inch nails

#6 Time machine question a) It’s 1983... Kenner executives are giving you the power to make any SW themed toy you like! What do you make?
This thing....

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! Concep10

I had a crack at it for the kids a while back.

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! Dsc_0210

Wow! That's some dio! Congrats!

#7 Josh, most of us know you have a pretty awesome Dengar character focus! But if you had to change this to another SW character, who would it be and why?

Maybe the Tusken Raider? Always thought they were pretty cool. Another bad boy of the bunch just trying to make a living.

#8 What was the name of your favourite toy store as a kid and why was it your favourite?
Worzels was the first toy store I remember. It was just the local toy shop in the town I grew up in. Other than that, I had to wait till we hit the city whenever we visisted the grandparents to get a taste of the good life, toywise.

#9 What advice would you give to a new collector just starting out?
Join some forums and make some contacts.
Get yourself familiar with collecting etiquette.
Collect what YOU want to collect.
Do your research.
Don't be afraid to ask questions if you can't find answers to them already.
Have fun doing it.
Try not to spend too much.
It can be a bit like looking for women. Sometimes you have to lower your standards to raise your average lol!

#10 Time machine question b) George Lucas is casting for ROTJ and you’ve just found some rather uncompromising photos of him! You blackmail him and demand a role in ROTJ! Who do you play and why?
Leia's bikini. Don't know how we can make it happen. Obviously it wouldn't be a speaking role as my mouth would be full.

Oh, who? Not what!...LOL. Not sure really.

Congratulations Josh, you have passed your examination and are free to go!

Thanks for taking part Josh! Cool

Welcome to our second TIG Interviewee of the day!

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! 448-6010

Screen Name: Ratherchildish
Real Name: Pete
Location: USA
Special Powers: Vintage Toy Photographic Fearlessness!

Are you sitting comfortably? Let the questions begin ...

#1 Pete, many thanks for taking part! What is your favourite SW memory? (film or toy line)

I think my favorite toy line memory was the early summer day in 1979 when I saw that our letter carrier had left two small white boxes with our mail. Kenner mistakenly sent me TWO mail-away Boba Fetts instead of one. I was thunder-struck!

#2 If not Star Wars... (which other toy line do you collect or would like to collect)
I lightly collect '70s Matchbox. I would love to start up an Adventure People collection but will probably stand down.

#3 Which SW character would you dress up as if you were attending a convention?
I'd have to say Boba Fett. But I wouldn't dress up as a film-based Boba Fett. I'd dress up as the vintage action figure Boba Fett. I'm headed to SDCC in 2 weeks... rats... not enough time!

#4 Describe your collection in 25 words!
The source of enormous personal joy and rejuvenation. The source of enormous personal joy and rejuvenation. The source of enormous personal joy and rejuvenation. Yes.

#5 What song would you perform at a Karaoke?
Beast of Burden, of course!

#6 Time machine question a) It’s 1983... Kenner executives are giving you the power to make any SW themed toy you like! What do you make?
1983? I'd have to say a supremely decked out Jabba's Barge packaged with an exclusive Slave Leia. And she would be sculpted by the person that sculpted Ree-Yees, not the person that sculpted Poncho Leia. I think those must be two different people.

#7 What was the name of your favourite toy store as a kid and why was it your favourite?
I liked Kohl's Department Store on Bluemound Road in suburban Milwaukee. I could ride my bike there along one of Milwaukee's many lush parkways.

#8 What’s the weirdest/most fun SW item in your collection?
I don't have a lot of weird stuff -- just licensed Kenner goods. Most fun is was and always will be the 1978 X-Wing Fighter.

Editor's note: you have made a pleasing remark about the X-Wing Fighter vehicle - you get to take home a free lollipop and 'FX-7 is cool' sticker! Please see the nurse on your way out!

#9 Pete, most of us know that you enjoy taking photos of vintage Star Wars toys doing what they do best! In fact it is you who kindly submitted the FX-7 photo for the start of this very thread:

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! Vintag14

But ... if you could go back to the late 70s/early 80s and photograph a session for one of the boxed vehicle/playset items - which box scene would you choose and why?

Probably the Death Star playset. I think that's one box that doesn't quite 'sell it' as well it could. I'd lose the kids, opt for a darker background, and probably choose a slightly more dramatic angle. If I ever get one (I don't own that playset!) I'll be sure to mock something up Wink.

#10 Time machine question b) George Lucas is casting for ROTJ and you’ve just found some rather compromising photos of him! You blackmail him and demand a role in ROTJ! Who do you play and why?
Biker Scout. I'd get to wear what's likely my favorite wardrobe in the trilogy.

Congratulations! You have passed the examination and are free to go!

Cheers Pete for taking part Cool

Look out later in the week when two more TIG victims members will be subjected to their probe!

Welcome to the next TIG Interviewee!

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! Star_w14

Screen Name: Darth Small
Real Name: Greg
Location: Australia
Special Powers: Pinball Wizard!

Greg, ready for your first question ....

#1 What is your favourite SW memory? (film or toy line)

My dad taking me to watch all 3 movies (back to back) at the local cinema and my sister and I watching Star Wars on VHS every weekend and knowing it word for word.

#2 If not Star Wars... (which other toy line do you collect or would like to collect)
Would be Matchbox cars, massive variety, they don't just make cool cars look cool. Ford Anglia, I rest my case. Although Vyvyan in The Young Ones drove one.
Not quite toys but I have nearly every Arsenal shirt dating back to 1985.

#3 Which SW character would you dress up as if you were attending a convention?
Rancor Keeper would certainly suit me but I like to keep my shirt on (when sober). Would like a crack at Walrusman or Greedo.
At my sons 5th birthday party I dressed as Vadar and the missus as Leia. That photo is for another day, maybe we could start a best dressed thread.

#4 Describe your collection in 25 words!
Nearly complete loose figures aboout 60 owned from childhood, couple of moc's, some vehicles and creatures. One pinball machine. Not knowing where it's going.

Pinball delight!!

#5 What song would you perform at a Karaoke?
Would and have, Better Man - Pearl Jam. Give me a microphone and some beer and I'll sing anything.

#6 Time machine question a) It’s 1983... Kenner executives are giving you the power to make any SW themed toy you like! What do you make?
The first adults only figure a Darth Vadar shaped dildo so the wags can share the joy of SW collecting.

#7 What was the name of your favourite toy store as a kid and why was it your favourite?
Hamleys in London, the biggest toy store I've ever seen. I got lost in there as a kid and had to get paged over the p.a. There was one whole level with just train sets.

#8 What’s the weirdest/most fun SW item in your collection?
Couple of good T-shirts but the one everyone is jealous of is the Pinball machine.

#9 Time machine question b) George Lucas is casting for ROTJ and you’ve just found some rather uncompromising photos of him! You blackmail him and demand a role in ROTJ! Who do you play and why?
Hmmmm tough one, let's just go with Wicket so I get a grope of Leia.

#10 Which single SW character would you like to have seen released that was never released during the vintage line?
Either of these two bar chicks just to take the pressure off of Leia as the only female figure.

Bar chicks ahoy!

Welcome to the next TIG Interviewee!

FX-7 member probe: 10 Points of Articulation… 10 Questions… We will probe you!! 793-1010

Screen Name: Stevefdwyer
Real Name: Steve
Location: USA
Special Powers: Awesome Artwork Attack!

Steve, thanks for taking part, ready for your first question ....

#1 What is your favorite SW memory? (film or toy line)

I have a really nice memory from my childhood. I remember when I was about 6, the year 1978, my Dad coming home from work with 2 packs of Star Wars cards for me. I felt like I was King of the world when I opened up my packs and gazed at the cards for hours. Another memory was receiving my first Boba Fett mail in figure. I thought I may be the only kid on the block that had him at the time, so he was a special figure to me, and still is.
These memories carry on into my special relationship with my son. I try to instill the fun and excitement into his love of collecting.

#2 If not Star Wars... (which other toy line do you collect or would like to collect)
I only collect Star Wars now. Besides Star Wars, I did however collect other figures as a child. They were GI Joe, He-Man and Clash of the Titans figures.

#3 Which SW character would you dress up as if you were attending a convention?
Boba Fett, because he is a bad ass : )

#4 Describe your collection in 25 words!
It's all over the place! Variants, Fetts and prototypes. I've concentrated on hard to find pieces and am very proud of my Meccano Fett collection.

#5 What song would you perform at a Karaoke?
I would hum the Cantina Star Wars song : )

#6 Time machine question a) It’s 1983... Kenner executives are giving you the power to make any SW themed toy you like! What do you make?
My son and I were discussing this last night. We both thought (Admiral) Grand Moff Tarkin would have been a sweet figure that Kenner should have released in 1977/1978.

#7 What was the name of your favorite toy store as a kid and why was it your favorite?
Sears. This is where my Mom and Dad bought my original figures from. I remember sitting looking at the figures while my Mom shopped in the store.

#8 What’s the weirdest/most fun SW item in your collection?
I have a Lili Ledy Tie Pilot that has been hand painted and glued together. It has Imperial Royal Guard legs and Biker Scout arms. Rumor has it, it could have been left over parts from Lili Ledy that children hand painted and assembled when they came on tours. The piece comes from Mexico City. Again, the true history of this piece is a cool mystery and is quite weird : )

Steve's weirdo figure!

#9 Steve, you are a very talented artist and have made some great SW character scenes! Which SW actor/actress would you most like to commission you to do a painting and why?
Thank you for the kind words. The actor would have to be Mark Hamill. The reason I chose Mark is because I would love to create a painting from the deleted opening scene of Return of the Jedi. The scene where Luke is creating a new lightsaber in Obi-Wan's home while Vader is talking to him using the force. Then he lights the saber in the dim lit room. I think it would make a great painting and wish it had been used in the original movie.

the cool artwork of Steve!

#10 So far, what parcel have you opened from the postman that has put the biggest smile on your face?
It would have to be my first shot Ben. But I smile whenever I receive a new Star Wars item in the mail. Does back flips count in this question? Because I think I did a few of those when I got my Removable Rocket Lili Ledy Fett back from AFA with the score of 90.

Many thanks for taking part, Steve. You are free to leave the examination!

Look out next time when two more TIG members take the FX-7 probe!
