| A warm welcome for Chiktabba and Eddie (Thundershot). Chiktabba : Sounds you are working on a great project, interviewing collectors and filming their collection. Looking forward seeing that material. BTW: Le miroir divin. C'est une belle et artistique film!! Aussi ma femme est d'accord avec moi. (Ok, sofar my french ). Eddie: Great to have another loose variant collector on the boards. You are also into collecting the foreign lines? |

You are also into collecting the foreign lines? Hi, Star Wars wise the only item I'd consider to be a true foreign figure I own would be Blue Snaggletooth, otherwise, as the vast majority of my collection dates from my childhood it's all standard U.K. released items. Being an avid Action Force collector I've cobbled together a YPS style Snowtrooper . I've used the correct Tri Logo figure, vintage weapon & cape.. I know it's not a 'genuine' YPS, but its a nice way to connect my two favourite collections together. Over the years, thanks to ebay, I have imported some (3-3/4") G.I.Joe characters (from the States) & (from Japan) a couple of vintage X-Bomber/Starfleet die-cast toys (it's an obscure old television sci-fi show made with puppets, check it out on Youtube ) P.S. I enjoy setting up & photographing dioramas of my toys in action, please feel welcome to view my pictures over on flickr Toys,Toys & More Toys! |

| Hello.
I am new to this site as well as to collecting and trading in general. Fact is, I got about 100 figurines which I bought and played with during the 80's in Germany, and was looking to sell them on the net. So, by clicking here and there, I finally wound up on this forum and read a couple of posts, and boy did I get intrigued ... there's so much to know ... Now, I don't even know what Lily Something is, COC or what. I am hoping to learn about it here. I'm pretty sure all the stuff I have from my childhood is Kenner (it said so on the blisters, which I collected first, then threw in the trash), and it's from Germany, with weapons and all. Is that a good or a bad thing? Well, I guess the answer will be "It depends ..." Anyway. As I said, I am new to this, and will appreciate any support in getting knowledgable about this topic. I am particularly interested in why some figurines are traded at such outrageous prices. What are the main criteria?
I am from Germany, English is not my native tongue, and I hope any mistakes regarding language will be forgiven; I'll try my best. |

| Welcome to TIG, Wolfman! Nice to read that you have found your way to our forum while searching for some info on your childhood figures and got intrigued by all the available info. Be careful now, there is a big chance that after reading too much, you don't even want to sell off your collection anymore and instead will start collecting to complete your loose childhood collection. Which off course is a good thing. About why some vintage figures are sold for much higher prices. That is for instance the case for figures which were distributed/produced by foreign licencees. These are distinct from their Kenner counterparts (different paint, COOs, accessories) and are often more rare and desired: Lili Ledy (Mexico), PBP (Spain), Glasslite (Brazil),...etc. If you like, please make a limelight of your collection in the limelight section. So we can help you evaluating the figures in your collection. Here is a helpful link how to upload pictures: http://www.imperialgunneryforum.com/t5234-how-to-contact-the-tig-team-how-to-upload-pictures-to-the-forum Cheers Marco |

Marco Thanks for the reply, Marco. While browsing the forum, I have seen that Black Wampa is one of those rare "misprints" you were talking about, so cheers back. I mean, considering his lack of camouflage skills, it's pretty obvious [sic!] that he would be all but extinct, so to speak. I'm still a bit reluctant to start posting pics and such, since I am new, and want to "get the hang of it" first, get to know the particular tone of the forum and such. Also, I'm afraid my stuff will be pretty mundane compared to what other people might consider interesting. Once I've warmed up, though ... well, you know the type. Anyway. I got quick replies here, which is totally a bonus. Good forum moderation has a lot to do with mod availability, so there you go. Seems pretty comfy around here. |

Now about the Black Wampa, actually the black fur is an adaptation to the extreme harsh weather conditions on the Northern Ice Plains of Hoth., in order to absorb enough sun light to keep the body warm. As the Nothern Ice Plains are devoid of any other big mammals, Black Wampas hunt the frightful Ice Worms underneath the ice. These worms are blind, allowing the Black Wampas to adapt to their present fur over the course of time. Unlike other Wampas which rely heavily on their camouflage white fur while hunting for Taun Tauns. Cheers Marco |

Are you meaning to say they're pretty much scavengers, then? May I add, on the danger of being considered *n*l-retentive from the start, that polar bear fur is not white, but lacking pigments, and covering a nearly black skin underneath ... that being due to the fact that the fur "tries" to radiate as little in the infrared spectrum as possible, thusly conserving and insulating heat. Black fur, then, in cold climates, would be counterproductive in conserving body heat, and also (if the Worms are blind to visible light, but can track in the infrared spectrum) ... well, you get my drift. |

| Hello All,
Been lurking on the forum on a while - a child of the 70's, I got the Sci-Fi bug like most others at age 5 after seeing STAR WARS.
The rest followed....Alien, Aliens, Terminator 1 & 2, Blade Runner, and more recently Oblivion.
I do some props from time to time and have done the odd custom figures over the years.

Great to be here and love seeing everyone's collections.
Regards John |
