| Thank you for the warm welcome! Yes, I have indeed fallen into the variant trap. Ha! Recent acquisitions include: Trilogo Fett LL Burgundy Squid Head Droid Factory R2-D2 Hollow Tubes Tusken Raider LL Biker Scout (short mouth) LL Burgundy Bib Fortuna (FAKE)* Hoth Leia (green hair) *I've found it's handy to have the fake LL Bib on hand (dyed Kenner cape), as it makes for decent comparison when hunting for legit examples. Aside from that, I've been in a refinement stage, upgrading sensorscope and lightsaber R2-D2's for better decals, etc. |

| Hello everyone,
My name is Jeff and I'm an alcoholic.
Wait, wrong forum.
My name is Jeff and I'm like an alcoholic but with Star Wars figures.
I've been a member over on RebelScum for the past seven years (still a junior by most reckonings as I understand), and just recently realized that although I joined the Imperial Gunnery forums about a year ago, I had yet to introduce myself or make any posts here!
A brief (well, brief for being long-winded) history of my collecting:
I saw Star Wars in the theaters at the age of 2, and it is my first memory (well, not watching the movie, I've seen it so many times since I can't tell them apart). But I can still recall leaving the theater, picking up a brick from the empty lot next door and carrying it around as my 'Force brick' for about a year or so, after which it replaced a missing leg on my grandfather's recliner for some years before disappearing suddenly when an uncle repaired the missing leg. Nobody could understand why a 9 year old kid was so distraught about the loss of an old brick.
In my childhood I obviously collected the original release of the vintage figures and playsets/vehicles, as well as some of the Micro Collection. My prized possession was my AT-AT, which Santa Claus granted me after I sent him a note promising I would eat "a extra helpung of vegtables esh day" if he would get it for me. (Mom still has the original note on the refrigerator)
After a break for high school and college (no new Star Wars available - or much spare $$$ for that matter - during that time frame for the most part, although I do recall buying a few of the old-school unpainted lead miniatures), the mid-90's brought the new 'He-Man' line of SW figures, so began to collect them - a task made easier by the fact that I worked part time at a Toys R Us at the time! That collection never really amounted to very much though, the sculpts always left me somewhat unimpressed, and once again it came at a time when funds were pretty tight! This was around the time Star Wars Lego came out, and I got a few early sets of that as well, although I think they never made the move with me to Florida. Most of the 90's POTF line was purchased by my mother when I told her I was going to sell it to raise funds for my move. She wanted to keep it around for sentimental reasons, and parts of it (AT-AT re-release included) are still on display in her office.
Around the time Revenge Of The Sith came out, I had a pretty well established career and income, so I got back into it, although this time with the newer line, amassing a large Utapau Clone and Droid army of figures (subsequently sold for the most part, although some pictures remain in my gallery on Rebel Scum). I also began to dabble in focuses of the Miniatures line, and recently the X-Wing tabletop game (although just for the miniatures, not so much the game itself).
A little over a year ago I decided to get back into the original Vintage line. Nostalgia, or perhaps the attraction of a line in which new figures are no longer being produced and therefore some level of 'completeness' can be attained? I don't know. But at this point I have a fair collection of loose vintage figures and many major, and some minor, variants. I'm working on educating myself to spot fakes and repros, and have successfully sniffed a few out, and verified many more as legitimate vintage. Most of my questions nowadays focus on these sorts of issues, as I'm getting to the point of the higher-dollar (and more often faked) variants.
Today I still have my miniatures line collection (pretty much the figures and vehicles to relive the Battle Of Hoth), several Star Wars Lego sets (Hoth themed), some of the '06 era Unleashed line (Hoth figures...), and some modern figures (Utapau and ... you guessed it...Hoth). For vintage, I have some Micro Collection (H**h World, I'll let you guess the mystery word), and of course the loose figures mentioned...with extras of a few which pertain to a snowy scene at the beginning of Empire Strikes Back. Now that I see all that written down, it strikes me as a little bit ironic that I moved from Wisconsin to Florida to get away from the snow and the cold! Also, I have a fleet of the X-Wing miniatures, but since they don't have much to do with Hoth they hardly bear mentioning.
So for anyone whose eyes didn't glaze over four paragraphs back and managed to read the whole thing detailing the collecting life of a random stranger, thanks for reading, and hullo!
