I have to admit, this year seem to be the worst ever since I started to collect online (1999). I really cannot help, but if the TT story is true, this has hitted the fence 100%

I am fed up with a lot of things:
- unprooven figures for high prices i.e. Poch for 500€
- picturegate on RS (AND elsewhere!!!!!)
- not sure what to rely on on important variants because of TT story)

The year 2013 just shows us: Everyting can be faked, and every uneducated person is ready to pay hundreds for crap! This destroys the market! I am out!

If too many muppets have too much money it should be their problem...not mine!!!!


Loose collecting was always laughed at by the " big" ones ( and I am fed up defending those because I really think it is ridiculous whats going on in some places).
Well...the community (loose collectors) tried hard...but 2013 really marks a point. First of we cannot be sure of the origin of some variants because thousands of important MOCs could be fake and second is that people tend to buy everything without a proof! This development is just scarry as hell! I better leave it now and never read up again on any issue.....repro, fake MOCs, stolen pics etc

For me things were good had a few people bid up the price on items I wanted but I always have a max amount I am willing to spend, But for the most part all is good. I normally first check with the guys here that I know to see if they have what I need like James, OZIO etc. That way I know I am getting good stuff at a good price and I know it's real not some repo crap. I also have the advantage of living in a city where we have two large toy shows every year so that also helps.

I think with any hobby, there will always be arseholes and shit that goes on. IMO those of us that stick with it can weather anything that gets thrown at us.
While there are people with more money than sense in our hobby, bargains can still be had. And has been said before, the idiots in the hobby will quickly burn their cash and sell up at a loss, to the benefit of us serious collectors.  

I don't have too much to vent about really.

To the point of increasing prices...
I have no idea. I only started re-acquiring my childhood this past year so the prices are "normal" to me. I do think they are high in some areas for sure, but those prices are all I know really. I can also say that I have spent too much or bid to high on a few items this past year for sure just so I would secure them.   To some extent I am happy I have them and to another I am mad that I had to help inflate prices here and there. Sorry if I am a seller's enabler.   

Man, I am at such a disadvantage coming to the party so late. My most basic goal of finishing the basic figure line will only get more expensive a time marches on.
God help me if I decide to go all COO on those mother-f'ers!   

OK, so that said, I do have a problem with some sellers on forums. I am not mad not do I not like you if this shoe fits, but I do have to say I get bothered by forum sellers that once a sale is complete they remove the price and just leave it as SOLD. It would be such a fantastic tool for any collector if the prices stayed with the items over time. I know pictures will get lost, but the prices would be so valuable to see trends over time.

Also, sellers descriptions and pics (forums, ebay, etc) with either a crappy, elsusive description - i.e. "figure is mint aside from some paint loss to hair, hands, feet, belt and the gun is a little chewed - give me $XXX for it 'cux its rare".
Or a great description of a figure but a picture that was taken with a pin-hole camera, scanned in on a toy scanner, printed out on a shitty printer and photographed again at 100px x 15px. Fuckers. Its 201X.... we have the technology!
Or "pics available upon request"... come on. It all just urks me sometimes.

And finally, the age old forum mentality - "I have been here longer than you so therefor I rule, you suck and use the search feature!" God I hate people sometimes.   

Sorry.... no offense to anyone if anything fits or seems aimed at you. I assure you it isn't. I just liked the concept of this thread and thought I'd jump aboard.
I love this place. I do feel at home here and most of this doesn't come in to play here, so thank you all!!

This is just some overall thoughts, observations and frustrations I have from time to time. And yes, I know I am probably guilty of doing any of the above at one time or another. No need to point it out to me.

I was actually thinking about the same thing earlier this week and had a look at the TIG Classified Guideline :

You need to move here kisstour snow this year about an inch for like 2 days lol, As far as the selling on here I would say leaving the prices up would be a good thing as there are so many varients that it's good to have a rough guide to go by some times or even maybe an area that list all the items that we know of with prices that seem reasonable like say Blue snag $10 to $200 as an idea of a price range. Then for the new people to the hobby they could have an idea if they see one they have an idea if it's within a good price range. Does this make sense it's been a long day lol

Arrghh my ears are burning!! Sorry guys I for one am guilty of removing the prices in my FS thread and leaving them as SOLD/TRADED. I do however keep all my sales info logged and have in the past supplied pricing information to individuals via PM when asked to help, which I am quiet happy to do. I know it's nothing personnel and I will endeavour to amend my ways.

So what grinds my gears....

Time Zones - Missing out on items I'd like to buy  due to the time zone differences, just last week I woke up and checked RS and noticed two items had been listed and sold during the night. So the saying is true "You snooze you lose!"

Graded Items - Why on earth does a plastic case make something quadruple in value?, Is only a plastic case and given the choice I've smash them up!!  As for adding value, in light of the recent TT scandal it appears AFA/UKG have been grading crap and turning it into expensive crap

Sales Etticate - PM'ing a seller minutes after something has been listed, to wait 2-3 days for a reply..."sorry it's sold", WTF I didn't know Superman collected Star Wars!!!

Ebay - OK, there's still plenty of bargains out there, but I'm fed up with seeing fake vc jawa's and rocket fetts, give it a break guys, most of them look shit anyway! And then there's the "loft finds" and "fuzzy photos", do you think we were born yesterday?

Prices - I'm sure some sellers watch the lottery and combine several of the numbers together to come up with their prices. Do your research, keep a record of previous examples and follow the market trends. If someone bites your hand off, maybe you were too cheap, but if no one takes a bite reduce the price it's obviously too expensive.

International Shipping - Why does Australia only take 4-5 days, yet countries like Brazil/Mexico nearly a month, are they sent via the moon?

And one last one...

Mailbox Size - I'm surprised no onehas mentioned this, the mailbox size on TIG is shocking, I know it's the limitations of the forum software, but it's just too small.

   In all honesty...I find all the threads surrounding the TT issue very sad!
   If people only would put that much energy in research for getting a definitve answer to all this ...

   It is by farest not the only topic and not the only forum where those appear...but all are worthless IMO. Nothing is prooven yet, and it will stay that way if not more people try harder to solve this! I have done everything that I could for a loose collector....I am sorry to focus on my pregnant wife now!

   And if people think it wouldnt affect them because they don't collect Palitoys or they have none of those in their collections you're just wrong IMO.

   It affects the hobby a ton. If we cannot rely or trust our refernces anymore....what then?? The basic of (well almost every) collection are shaked to the very foundations: You cannot be sure anymore on AFAs, You cannot be sure anymore on variant origins, you cannot be sure anymore on the very history of our beloved toys! Think alone how many great books and guides are now in danger??

   If this doesn't bother you, you are totally wrong in this community IMO.....

I did pick up a probable TOC (toy toni) GM 45 back Leia Bespin this year. I am HAPPY that I got it for well over 150$ or more less than most sellers were/are selling it for... even to this day!

I AM pissed that mine most likely is fucked. I only have one and I really feel for those that have more invested in the suspect cards.

I agree with Wolff that it does indeed hurt the research side of things when what you think you know may be in question.
I can't offer any more on the subject with my own collection and research than I already have. I hope others continue to step up and help.
