PostSubject: Question about grading?   Question about grading? I_icon_minitimeThu Sep 01, 2011 4:57 pm

I have posted this also on RS in the AFA forum, but knowing it's almost dead over there i would ask you guys the same question.

I have 3 jawa's i like to submit to AFA to have them graded, but i have my doubts about my regular VC jawa.
It has a flaw i am not sure about, and i am wondering how it will affect the grade.

The problem with this figure is that a previous owner or kid has put something white like paint in the pegholes and then to make it worse also drew a line with a black marker underneath his feet (offcourse both will not come off with a normal wash).

Now i know i can replace the figure but this damage is not visible on regular display and other than this flaw, the jawa figure is actually very minty, he has perfect paint on his hands.

Now i wondered how much this will affect the grade, would it be worth to replace the figure before grading?
what would you do? (I would like to replace it, but then i want it replaced by a jawa with the exact same coo.)

Is it correct that any Hong kong Jawa COO is good to have a VC graded?

Here is a picture off the flaw underneath feet off regular VC Jawa.

Question about grading? VCJawafeet

Thanks in advance.

Cheers, Dennis.

Dennis

I think it would score poorly or get refused for paint touch ups. I'd say replace the figure. You do need to have a correct Jawa so take your time and really source a good one. It'll be worth it IMHO.

Yeah replace the figure. But AFA have graded the wrong jawa before with VCs ie. with small eyes.

as you are from belgium i don think you will be sending them off to AFA for customs,i know i wouldnt.
ask UKG theyre opinion trough mail with pics an see what they say.
i only sent in one fig at the moment but gathering others to follow.
my LL vader actually scored better then i thought so you'll never now.
and as it is for authentication then the grade it get should be that much of a problem no?

Thanks for the reply's guys, as you may have noticed i am working on trying to find another minty Jawa with the same COO. (also because i always believed that is the only correct COO for the VC Jawa.)

@ Bjorn, thanks for the info about UKG, but as this VC Jawa will be accompanied by my LL Jawa and TT VC Jawa, i thought AFA would be an better option, then Tom Derby would authenticat ethose other 2.

I am also mailing to Steve Ward from UKG, as offcourse this is a cheaper option beeing from Belgium and UKG is still growing. But on the other hand, Tom Derby is a better known source to all collectors and therefor a COA from Tom would be better. Trying to work out wich route i will go, UKG or AFA.

This guy is my favourite figure (I think Razz ), Tri-logo Fett w/ [u/p knee] & [p dart] - Rarest combo???

I'm considering sending him to UKG to get graded & cased so he's protected from any more damage and can be displayed safely (His visor & shoulder armour have taken a beating).

My question is...Is he in a condition suitable for grading, or would he get turned away? Would they case him for me if they couldn't grade him?

First off, welcome to TIG Question about grading? 755722

AFA will grade loose figs as long as they're not touched up or altered.

I guess my question would be what are looking to do? If it's just getting it cased, you can do that by just buying an acrylic case. Far less expensive of course.

If you're grading it to get a score, I'd say save the money honestly.

Sending to AFA from the UK would defo defeat the object, given the object is just to have him safer than loose. UKG grade and case for ~ £13/$20 which doesnt strike me as a bad layout to get him secured professionally in a case (& graded if he's of the ilk). Sourcing a correct acrylic case and doing it myself would prob cost me more in time and effort than just popping him in the post.

I defo would not be grading him to 'score'.

Thx for response.

$20 for UKG to slab him is a nice deal , I'd be all over that. I loose case can be $10 plus shipping.

If you do it, hope to see it when it returns, he's a great figure!

Hi there.

I highly recommend that if you are grading it for your own private collection then UKG is for for sure

Look forward to seeing it upon its return Smile
