| If I was still using IE7, I could add a shitload of links for all kinds of non-sw and sw bootlegs and knock-offs. My bookmarks didnt get transfered over to Firefox. Unless someone knows a way to do it, hook a brother up so I can get it all back. |

| For future use when referencing my collection pics as a resource. Please do not use the RS limelight link. Either the direct link to my flickr acct:
Mos Yglesias (The Bootleg museum)
or the SWblog article about my collection: The official SW Blog Misfit Toys article
Thanks Joe |

| Thanks for this amazing wealth of information. I have a pretty big figure collection, mostly consisting of (a lot of...) loose Fett stuff, but lately I have found some cheapo bootlegs that I could not pass up.
Of course, it started with a 3rd gen Polish Fett and then a few more followed. Someday I'll post the pics since there's only so much looking on the web can do. A trained eye is always best. (I certainly don't have that yet...) Still, they were all pretty cheap, so even if they are fake fakes, I think they're cool.
Anyway, after that ramble... thanks a million for the huge number of links!

| Question? What is a bootleg? I am doing an inventory as I am interested in selling my collection of 25 plus years. I just came across a figure marked made in Mexico. It says Kenner/ROJ 1983, Made in Mexico. On a black card. Figure is Ree-Yees. Labeled as model No. 70800. It's in the pkg. 65 figures on the back It looks just like the other packages from 1983, except on the back of most the others figures 9 and 10 (Logray and Chief Chirpa)are blacked out, whereas on this card, they are not. Also the pictures look a little blurry. So far, it's the only one labeled made in Mexico. Is there someway to tell a bootleg? I'm guessing that means it really isn't made by Kenner. I've bounced around on some of the websites you have listed and mostly those figures have labels in foreign languages. This is English only. Looks real. How can I tell? |

| In short a bootleg is an unofficial copy of a licensed product which is usually of inferior quality. In terms of Star Wars bootlegs, they were mainly produced in countries where the licensed product was either unavailable, or expensive. Bootlegs made an affordable alternative.
Ree-Yees on a 'Made In Mexico' 65 back card is a licensed product. While not rare, it is worth a little more than a Taiwan or Hong Kong example. The back of MIM cards frequently have a matt finish with a poorer colour / picture quality. You may also see a small hole in the card behind the figure (There are 12 other characters that can be found on MIM cards). I believe you are in contact with John (DarthBerizing)? If you email him a photo, he'll be able to confirm its authenticity. |
