| Ok, will all the crazyness going on lately, I sat down today and came up with a little idea. I ran this across with Chris to see what he thought of the idea. While Im waiting to see what he thinks of it, heres the main idea of it. What I want to do is set up a thread thats going to run for a month per figure. Anybody can post pix in it, ask questions, etc. in it. At the end of the month, we will switch to a different figure, but it will all be in one thread. Its going to be sorta like a VOTW type thread. But at the end of each month when the new figure kicks in, all it will be is for the new one. That way all the info can be compiled in one thread. I think they will be a whole lot better than making a new section. Plus it will make both sides happy. Those who dont want to deal with variants dont need to go in it and it wont flood the main page with variant questions. Ill ask Wolff if I can use his COO guide to post in the start of each figure. That way he can still contribute if he doesnt want to post a response. Plus Ill go back through all the old threads and put in the links to each figure I can find. That would help you guys out so you dont have to do all that work. I have plenty of time to do all the searching in the afternoons when I get in from work and on weekends I dont work. Let me know what you think on it. I believe it would work like that." So in other words, what I have figured to do is do one figure for a whole month to discuss. No other figure but that particular one. Then at the beginning of the month month, which should be ample time to compile info for a figure, move onto the next one. Plus that will also help keep 300 threads going for the same figure. Believe me, its well thought out. I even asked Wolff on his thoughts since hes now the go-to guy besides AJ on variants. He had some concerns which I covered with him. Heres the outcome of that. Quote:How about a sticky with index of each character! the sticky has a list of all characters.....linked to the thread! Only updated character threads will annoy the normal guys AND the mods can move ALL questuion into these threads! Solution: My idea incorperates yours. It would be a sticky so it would be always on page one for all to see. If someone wants to get irritated about it, they can stay the fuck out. I know with you and me both, it gets under our skins with these guys. But like I said, I want to keep it all level-headed. Those who dont want to talk about variants or dont like them dont need to come in the thread. And that will be in the beginning so they will be warned. Quote: I would do all last17 in one thread! In the end you have a locked sticky with all links to the character threads!!! the threads will stay but most of them wll hide on page 6-100...LOL. Solution: All 17 would be done. If not, it wouldnt be complete. I want to have everything there is in one thread and if it gets too big, Ill have the first one removed, linked in the new one, like the recent purchase thread. I was thinking of doing the figures in line with when they came out, first 12, 20/21, etc. That would be a whole lot easier to follow than randomly putting them in. Keep it nice and organized. Ill edit the first page to let everybody know which page each figure starts on so they wont have to hunt every page. And if Im stepping on toes with this and acting like a mod, well sorry. Ive been here since the beginning and I hate to see the state the forum has degraded to (no pun intended. ). And I figured someone had to step up and help change that. When it gets to the point when older guys who contribute the most leave and some, not all mind you, newer guys come in and either dont contribute nothing to the site except FS threads or want to start up a shit storm, its time things change. So what I want from the community is their opinions on all this. Would you want to see a thread started like this? There will be rules to it, so dont think its going to be a free-for-all. If the rules cant be followed, it wont ever happen by me. What Im trying to do is help out with compliling the info thats really needed for the new guys, what is or isnt a variant with their figures. You can ask whatever questions you want, post pix, and discuss it. The only thing I would ask for is this. Rule 1: Think before you type. So before you decide to have a Hutthunter moment, calm down. As I said I want to keep this all level-headed so we can have a nice and decent discussion. Deep down Im still a variant collector, but Im not interested in production stuff right now. Rule 2. Take opinions with a grain of salt. If you find a discolored looking figure that doesnt match the critria of a discolored figure and someone says it is, look at Rule #1. So be respectful to those who are helping you. Rule 3. If you dont know, dont say. If you got theories, make sure you got some sorta proof to back it up. Nothings worse than having theories with no proof. No off the wall comments or one word liners. This will strictly be discussion only. So that means no Cool, Awesome, etc. So let me know what you guys think about this. I would like to get it up and running by Wensday if possible, weekend at the latest. But it will run for one full month from the start date and Luke Farmboy will be the first. |

| You have thought this through very well I still think the VOTW can be revived (which really is very similar to what you suggest) The key improvement is that you will put links in to all existing threads- which will be a major task & I'm glad you volunteered The only problem with once a month is this will take a year and a half- but all good things take time. EDIT FOR THE DRUGED MUPPET 77 figures every WEEK is about a year & a half.

| Great work Chris! I think this is a GREAT idea. I would like to recommend some figures but don't want to be selfish : ) BUT I certainly look forward to these figures being talked about in this thread. -Steve |

| Yes I did, AJ. Also about taking a year and half, in that same time frame there have been at least 5-8 different threads started up on the same subject. At least with it like the way I thought up, it would all be in one place like the VOTW thread. But if it gets to where theres nothing being posted for the figure thats up anymore, I can start the next one. That way the thread wont die within 2 weeks. Besides I know our members here will have plenty to discuss within a month. And yes, all good things come to those who wait. Marco didnt do the Ledy guide in 52 weeks. As for linking threads, Im the Link Master, dont forget. The fastest link finder in the west. Im online here more than any other site I go to, so I can find the links quick. I posted in 99% of them. And Paul, Iggy will no longer be discussed in the thread with that comment. Iggy can go fly off a bridge now, dag-nabbit. |

| Steve, my idea would included all companys whether its Kenner, Meccano, Palitoy, etc. All 92 will be discussed by the end. So when Fett comes up, your link will be added. I know its a long road ahead, but hell, Im willing to do it as long as everybody else is willing to help make it work. |

| Sounds like a great idea Chris as I am a supporter of the VOW. All credit to you for offering your time to organise it! You're clearly a very generous guy, who cares a great deal about this site. IMO allowing a month for each character would provide more than enough time for people to post pics of their real variants, ask questions etc. And if all related threads are linked it will make it much easier for those who find it difficult, or are just too lazy to do a search, to find what they are looking for in one place! One thought though, what will stop people starting variant threads about characters before they are due to be discussed? Or could these be 'held on ice' until the appropriate time? cp

| 96 figures, a month per figure, isn't that an 8 year thread not a year and a half one :pale: That's quite a commitment Chris, thanks for volunteering! Rog. |

Rog. That's a good point, but I don't think all figures will require a month, especially the last 17. How much variant talk will there be about Yak Face If there is enough support to get this off the ground, Chris may find one or two weeks will be enough for some characters. |

| That's a great Idea Chris and well thought out. The only two issues I have are the 8yrs its going to take to finish and also, if where only talking about one figure a month, what happens 3 months down the line if I stumble on some new info and have a few new questions on LUke farmboy?

| What about a figure every two weeks instead of every month? That should give plenty of time for discussion and late comers. And if the thread is dead for a few days before the deadline, just move on to the next figure. That would be one of my suggestions. I really like the way the first post of the VOTW thread is done. I would like to see something similar to that with the Bi-Weekly Variant Thread. |

Great idea Chris I'm in and i think that we should do as Chris says . It would be great if most of the cool info /links /pitures etc are in the first master page so people don't have to go though 23 pages if they are looking for some thing . But i know that would take a lot of time ... And a master page with all the figureres as a link . Could be made like a cardback , and you just click on the figure to go to the page for that figurere That would be cool Looking forward to seeing this |

| Just got the green light to start this. So tomorrow night when I get home from work, I will be starting on it. I seriously dont think it would be a month per figure. I just through that out there just in case it did take that long. I just didnt think a week was plenty of time for everybody to post pix and ask and answer questions. 2 weeks would most likely be the limit, but I wanted to make sure everybody was able to have plenty of time to say what they wanted. Thats why I asked what everybody thought on it and to give suggestions before I did start working on it. Better to get the game plan figured out before the game instead at half time. Scott, as for new info that comes up, what we could do is after so many figures, like the first 12, we could do a reprisal type thing at the end before we start the next round. As in, when we get the last of the original 12 done, we could take a week to discuss anymore info that has come up in that time period for each figure. And so on. Its going to be a long road to get everything together and maybe later on down the line, we could take all the reprisal info and move it up to the main part somehow. But we'll cross that bridge when we get there. The main thing is to have all the info in one place instead of scattered out in 20 pages where anybody new will have to hunt for it. Saves on the search time to find outwhere the double scar Vader is from. Soren, that is my main idea. At the start of each figure, I want to post a pix of it, Wolffs COO guide, and any links I can find pertaining to that figure so it will all be in one place. And possible a cardback shot also. And the farther along we go, I will post what page each figure starts in on the main post. So if Vader starts on page 15, Ill have it in the first post. So if you want to look specifically for vader, you know you need to go to page 15. And that would be cool if I could do that, have a pix of a figure you could click on to go to the page. But Im not David Copperfield. I cant make the Empire State Building disappear, but I can do my best to have all the info we need in one spot with everybodys help. |

| Sorry if this is a stupid question but is the plan just to post pictures of known variants or is it ok to post pictures of all available mocs.for example luke farmer, one loose dt one dt on 12 back sw, 20 sw, esb 41 brown head red head jedicard proofcard baggies different sabermolds etc, it's kind of every figure gets there own focus limelight thread built on the members heres collections? |

| I think it's going to be everything & anything to do with the figure all collated in one thread? With links to past threads, other forum threads, peoples' focus collections etc. Like a one stop shop 'super guide' It's a massive project & I think we'll just have to see how it develops. |

Its more an archive with no discussion......but you could link each character also top these threads!
There was also FOWT on RS a few years ago.
These threads might be a good start! |

| We started up a figure of the week thread at our swedish forum link http://www.sswc.se/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2588 but it looks like we have lost some links so its starts with snaggletooth. I hope we will continue some day cause its fun to see what people have hidden in their drawers |
