To all collectors with a charactor focus, what was the reason for choosing your particular charactor?

for me its darth vader, boba fett and the stormtrooper but my prime focus is vader.

im not sure why these but i think the base is how good the figs were made to resemble the character.
also the history of the characters.

could go on but Obi needs me for the moment Very Happy

Hi Carl

I have a little forcus on Bespin Guards . As a kid they where VERY hard to find in Denmark . I only got one white and that was the only time i have ever seen them for sale in Denmark .

My fave movie is ESB , and i never saw a fig on ESB cards as a kid , so now my caretor focus are White Bespin Guards on ESB cards.

My other little side focus are miscards and proofs . I just like stuff that are not commen .

If you are looking to find a focus . Then don't try to push it. If there are some thing you like you find out . Look at other peoples collections and see what you like.

Great link! thanks,

But is there enough products on the open market to start a focus, or is all cool stuff(prototypes/proofs) locked away in private collectiosn?

Though, I collect almost everything Star Wars, my character focus is Vader. To be honest, I don't have a reason. It just sort of happened, which is the way I think it should be. I really like Vader. The costume, the story, the toys, the Imperial March. So it all just kind of happened.

I have a mini/side focus of Luke Jedi as well. It's my favorite action figure from my childhood, as I didn't ever have a Vader. Toys were few and far between for my brother and me. I can remember everything about the day I got it. Where, when, who I was with, even the way I felt when my mom let get it. For that one it's more of a sentimental thing. And Jedi was the only Star Wars movie I saw in the theater when I was a kid. I was too young for Empire, and not born yet for Star Wars.

My 3 favorite characters are Fett, Yoda and Jawa. Not necessarily because of their parts in the movies. I just get that fuzzy nerd feeling when I see a fett and that's the one I'm trying to put a run together on. I have several yoda and jawa variants and I will explore them more one day. I originally started collecting MOC , but after completing a loose set, decided that loose variations offer very cool looking displays and you don't have to wait quite as long in between finds like with MOC.

I was born in '80 so my older brother had a ton of the figures and vehicles that I grew up playing with. My connection to SW is the toys, not the movies.

I believe I saw Jedi in the theater and I bought my own Jedi figures at Kay-Bee here in the US. but had most of the SW and ESB figures already. My brother still bitches about how I broke all his toys and lost the weapons but our mom told him he had to let me play with them Smile

PostSubject: Re: Charactor Focus   Charactor Focus I_icon_minitimeTue Jul 26, 2011 4:19 am

Well Carl

You can think about not just doing a charactor focus , but maybe a place , a ship or a line or just some stuff or a feeling you get / had . This would make your collection something difrent then all the ones that just collect one charator .

Maybe all stuff Bespin og Hoth . Or did the music in the films make you feel something as a kid . Then you might wanna collect records as a focus .Or are stuff from Japan just a little to cool ? Then do a Japan focus .
Or how about only collecting bad bad beater moc's ?

The god thing about this hobby is that there are no rules . You can do what ever you fancy :-)

My collection is only based on what i like and fancy right now . In a few months i might not relly like a moc any more , so my collection is kind floating and if have to trade up some cool stuff from my collection to get some thing i might want right now . Then thats what i do. This gives me huge freedom in my collecting .

As any thing goes , i can pick up stuff that i am facinatet of right here and now . Or that i can see might be great to have in a deal later on . But maybe don't want for ever in my collection .

I can't tell you how free it made me feel when i got to that conclusion. I have some great stuff to look at and i have some little guide lines in my collection like i LIKE Bespin Guards and miscards and proofs . But other then that i can just do what i want.

This even makes me not regred any buys . I just think as the thing as an investment i can trade on.

I have a lot of stuff in my collection , bootlegs , mailers and moc's and other toys . That i'm not gona sell , but just think off as goods i can trade when the right trade deal comes along .

Well this is just what makes me happy with my collection Very Happy I hope you find some thing that you relly like and fancy .

Cheers

Soren

Any ideas yet Carl?

For a few good reasons I chose Luke X-Wing and the X-Wing Fighter. These were my faves as a kid and I remember how cool it was that the X-Wing finally had a pilot Luke instead of Farmboy Luke.
Also I like these because these are plenty of variations and oddball stuff too. My X-Wing silver frisbee is one of my fave items Smile
And I was also inspired by the collection of Marc Carraway (The Guilty One) - and am lucky enough to have a couple of his items in my small collection - cheers Smile

As others have said really, you could test the waters and try out a few different characters or vehicles to see how you 'bond'. I would also recommend watching the OT again and maybe some character will suddenly appeal to you?

Enjoy, and look forward to your choice Smile

hi carl,

take a look at youre collection and where youre at for the moment, try to spot odd things like you have 5 r2's,8 boba's,...
then you can think about a focus and the fig you have the most in youre collection.
im my case it was vader, boba and stormtrooper,i always had the inpluse to buy them if there were bargains to catch.

you can make a focus as exspensive as you want!
i know i will never own a vader DT because i cant make myself pay 4K or so for a fig thats authenticated by AFA.

well the DSC and hammerhead go all the way i think and the bespin guard starts on esb card either 32 back or 41 back.
could be a cool focus with lots of things to find at reasonable prices too.

if you have a kellerman book you can check what and when.

I have been looking only for the white Bespin Guard . They start at ESB 32A backs and go to Jedi cardbacks . They both came in the Trilogo hybrid also. And there are proofs from the 32A back and to Jedi .

The charetor is on one of the Falcon, Slave 1 , Cloud car and the Sears Bespin playset .

Other then that there are not much stuff to pick up in the old line i think.

There are not much comming up for sale and most of the relly cool stuff is locked up in 3-4 four collections :-(

There where just sold a hammer head proof in this tread :

I think i might go for Death Squad Commander/Star Destroyer Commander! just been reading the my Kellerman book! plenty carded variants! and thats only US stuff! ok can you guys fill the gaps for me? other than US where else did this charactor appear? Palitoy, meccano etc? also was it on a Tri logo? does it have any loose variants and anything else?

I wont be actively collecting just yet, got to pay off my latest coin first Smile
