Subject: 2013 - Year of the Damaged Bubbles - Are you $*%&#$ kidding me??? Wed Oct 30, 2013 2:39 pm
I swear I'm ready to throw in the towel. This has been the year of the Damaged MOC. Today a Luke Takara 12bk arrived with the bubble broken and the head out. This is now the 6th MOC this year. I've gotten packages from UPS, USPS. From different mailman and to different addresses. So it's not like one person (besides me) is drop kicking these.
Now to be clear, everyone has packed well. It's not like they came in a bubble mailer. But I mean how much can one person get bitched slapped?
Here's the Takara Luke and a Meccano Gam Guard that had major damage:
Then I had the bottom of Blue Stars Tear Open Squidhead Miscard Completely come through the bubble POCH Leia partially lift up one side.
I also shipped a Bib Fortuna who's head popped through.
Am I going bananas? Anyone else seeing this increase in damage?

John, that's quite a run of bad luck you have going. Hopefully the shipper will work out some sort of compensation or have insurance.
My suggestion is to start collecting just loose figures.

lousy luck, John. Horrible to see this happen. I think shipping fragile moc around is always going to run risks especially as the parts age more. Really hope you get some better luck soon mate.

I guess 2013 isn't your year for moc's John!
Unfortunately, I can only think that this problem will become more common over time, as the bubbles become increasingly brittle.

That's some really bad luck John, unfortunately the bubbles weren't built to last and become brittle with age and no degree of packing can alter the fact that the figure is, in most cases loose in the bubble to rattle around. Jesus, when I post stuff at my local, they stick the stamp on and then toss the package in a collection bag, that package is then gonna get tossed in a van, sorting office, etc. etc. etc. Send an MOC half way round the world and buy the time it arrives, that figure in that bubble has been rattling around like a ballberring in a spray can.
It's painful to see on such rare figures as yours John.

That's pretty horrendous John - sorry to see it happen to you (6 times)! Have you tried requesting the sender make a custom bubble protector pieced together out of cardboard such that it fits snugly around the bubble? Then they can place it in a star or acrylic case, fill it up with fairly densely with packing peanuts.
I've sent and received all my MOCs this way (mind you, mostly Uzays which are already cracked, fragile, and generally crappy)....never had a problem.
Or maybe its just shitty luck

Exactly my thoughts, maybe in the future conventions and toymarkets will be the only place to get rare stuff

This would only work from now graded moc's. The takara Luke is sealed in an AFA case so one drop during shipping in the wrong direction could easily pop a figures head through the bubble.

WOW! That is a bad run and seeing the figures/MOCs they were just makes it worse!
I have been requested to better pack my MOCs from people and now I see why. I wasn't asked because I previously shipped one that had problems, but the buyers state some horror story of their experiences. I guess I understand better now why.
For me, I now pack mine inside a star case, but inside the star case I now add peanuts to fill the entire void essentially making the inside less likely to slide around and hopefully absorb the shipping bumps better and make it more crush proof. However, seeing the head pop through the bubble, I don't think the peanuts would stop something like that from happening. Making some sort of custom rig might, but man, that seems a lot of work for the average MOC.
It does make one think hard about selling any MOC without adding insurance and hoping that if something should happen that the insurer would honor the claim if something like that happens.
Anyway........ I hope you get compensated for it. Please keep us posted.
And perhaps your mail guy doesn't like you???
SORRY!!!! Couldn't help myself, but after seeing some packages, I can't help but wonder how accurate that clip really is.

Mete - Believe it or not, The Gam Guard, Squidhead and Leia all had the cardboard. None of these were packed poorly by any stretch of the imagine.
Luckily everyone has been helpful so financially it's been okay but I'd rather have the figures.
I need a hug............

Good lord.......I hope there was insurance for a large sum on that package Stefan. How many Vlix figures do you have? You trying to corner the market?

Ouch, it pains me to see poor Vlix like that.... Sorry for your loss! Unfortunately, I think we are going to see more and more of this as these things age (and the quality of the postal worker declines).
**I mean no offence to any postal workers on here, I know not all of them are bad (but I had one drop a package 4 feet into a basket after they marked fragile on it.)!

Ouch - that is a lot of pain and $ in all these pictures.
I am afraid I can't think of a way around it - if you want items from around the globe then you have to take that chance that they arrive safe & sound

What a tragedy John. Sorry to hear this all happened to you so often.
And Stef how is it possible that a figure just breaks like that while being wrapped? What a bad luck.

Man, i know figure can break the bubble (especially if it's AFA graded, since then the bubble has no protection) but 6 times this year.... I think you should kick your mailman's ass.
I think those repro bubbles start looking attractive to double bubble your items during shipment. Have anyone ever tried to see if a repro bubble fits over a real bubble?
Hope your luck get's up guys.
I just lucked out yesterday. The mailman just left a parcel next to my letterbox on the ground in the rain all day long. The box was soaked and so was the content... luckely it did not contain a Moc figure as it surely would had been damaged....

Stef - I had that happen to a Blue Snaggletooth baggie I sold. He was AFA graded (In baggie) also. The case didn't break but his torso just shattered.
Sadly the buyer wanted a low declared value, so we couldn't get the post office for a claim.
Ouch

When a buyer wants a lower declared value, i say the risk of no protection for the item against damage is On the buyers account aswell. If i buy something and want a lower declared value, i take the loss if the item gets damaged.

I agree as well, and it's a decision made before the deal is completed.
FWIW , the buyer was very understanding and took the loss.
