A good friend of mine collects cardbacks, but doesn't really know what they all are, so he gives them to me and I sort, label and file them for him and in return he gives me his spares Very Happy  I scan everyone for my own archive and will post bits here and there as and when I have them a bit more sorted.

This was a nice little find in his last batch, a Made In Spain Hammerhead - Kenner ROTJ 77 Back A.
The card is the typical flimsy card stock, glossy front, matte back.

I've got to get myself one of those Alex.

It's interesting that the quality of the 'Made In Spain' cardbacks is very similar to the 'Made In Mexico' ones.

Yes it is interesting, the MIM cards can be found with both glossy backs and matte backs, I'm not sure if the same applies to the MIS cards. Heres a couple of MIM cards including an example of a Chief Chirpa with a glossy back and the same card with the matte back.

All the mail in offers ask for the names to be sent in, there are no POPS.  So just like US cards with POPs missing you'll see Palitoy cards with nameplates missing Smile
Here's an example of such a Palitoy offer (ESB 45 back).

One of the interesting things about sorting my friends cards out is that the first batch was his childhood collection, all bought in the U.K. I posted the full list in a thread around that time which can be found here I was suprised by the amount of Kenner cards in there. It's common knowledge that Palitoy put stickers on three Kenner cards, The ESB 47 Back A, ESB 48 Back C and the ROTJ 48 Back D, but this was only because these three cards had the figure offers on them (4-LOM, Admiral Ackbar & Nien Numb) the sticker was simply to give a U.K. address for the offer. Any offerless Kenner card would not require a sticker and it would appear that there was a lot more Kenner cards circulating in the U.K. than you might think.

An interesting thing with the name plate cut out is of course is that it's pretty much proof that the card came from the U.K. so when ever you see a Kenner card with the name gone (and there's alot!) it probably means that it originated in the U.K.

That said, you always bloody well get one clown!!! Mad

In the Netherlands and Belgium you also had to cut out the nameplates for the premiums, so an cut out name can come from other european sources then the UK.

The thing with production in the Netherlands & Belgium, Clipper only actually produced it's own card stock for the first SW 12 backs and the ESB 45 Backs, everything else was released on imported cardstock from Kenner, Kenner Canada, Palitoy and German General Mills, all of which are identifiable by the Clipper stickers applied to the cards, or at least by the tearing or residue left from attempts to remove these stickers. The name plate was used for the offers but the imported cards are still identifiable as being from the Netherlands or Belgium in the vast majority of cases because of the Clipper stickers or evidence that these stickers where once there.
The thing about the imported Kenner cards in the U.K. is that only the offer cards can be identidied as being from the U.K. by Palitoy stickers, all the others are just standard Kenner cards totally indistinguishable from there U.S. counterparts, so again it is likely that the vast majority of Kenner cards with the nameplate removed did originate from the U.K.
The interesting thing to me is the vast amount of imported Kenner cards which appear to have come from the U.K. because unlike Clipper who only produced two of it's own unique cards, Palitoy was producing it's own unique cards all the way from the SW 12 Back A's right the way through until the ROTJ 65 Back D's and even the Tri-Logo hybrids cards but still must have needed to import card stock from Kenner to meet production demand.

Here's an interesting example of a Klaatu on a Palitoy ROTJ 65 Back with the Clipper wrap around sticker. What makes this particular card interesting is that this came from my friends childhood collection and was bought in the U.K. making it possible that Palitoy or some distributers where importing overstock where ever to meet demand, in this case the Netherlands.

The Seventh Palitoy card, there are a couple of different versions of this card concerning the writing under the Star Destroyer Playset. The text says 'with figures' which of course was not the case in the U.K. the card can be found with the text, with a blue sticker over the text or some times just simply a pen scribble marking it out, below is one such example with the pen pen scribble.

The Empire Strikes Back 41 Back C

The eigth Palitoy card, but unfortunately I don't have a picture for this card as it would seem that it is quite hard to come by. The card it's self is identicle to the ESB 41 Back B but the 'with figures' text found below the Star Destroyer Playset has now been removed

The thirteenth Palitoy card, it's basically the same as the 65 back A but the Palitoy address in the bottom left hand corner of the cards back is written over 5 lines on the 65 back A and written over only 4 lines on this, the 65 Back B

Return Of The Jedi 65 Back C

Card back collectors thread - Page 2 15_bik10
The fourteenth Palitoy card, on the card back the bandolier offer says 'offer ends January 31st 1984" this text can either be present or sometimes blacked out with marker as can be seen on the Squid Head 65 Back C card below

Return Of The Jedi 65 Back D

Card back collectors thread - Page 2 16_bob10

The fiftheenth Palitoy card, it's basically the same same the 65 Back C except on the front the 'aged 4 and up' text is just written once in English where as on the 65 Back C it is written in three languages. As with the 65 C the offer date can be found there or marked out as seen below on the DSC

Card back collectors thread - Page 2 18_dea10

Return Of The Jedi Tri-Logo Hybrid 70 Back

Card back collectors thread - Page 2 17_bes10

The sixteenth and essentially the last of the Palitoy card, this card features the the same front as the 65 D in the fact it doesn't have the black bar under the ROTJ logo, but the 'ages 4 and up' text has gone back to the multi lingual version like the 65 A, B and C cards. In total, only 6 figures where released on the hybrid card, Both Bespin Security Guards (white and black), Greedo, Hammerhead, Snagglettoth and the Cloud Car Pilot.

The cards that followed from this point where the Tri-Logo's
