| Hi everyone!
Im new to the site and my names Phil.
So glad to find so many people talking about this hobby. For years ive collected (in a small way loose figures only) in secret so its really encouraging to see such an active community. Please forgive my noobishness and thank you in advance if you can help in my first enquiry which is.......
Looking at my loose collection and wondering which would be worth sending to UKG im a bit stumped with my R2-D2 (Pop up sabre version) as im not sure how to assess the sticker. Its original obv but its not mint and has some discolouring. What approx grade would you guys estimate it would get should I send it?

| Hi Phil, to the TIG ! I personally do not send to the AFA/UKG myself, but a lot of people do. I am sure one of the many experts on TIG will be able to sort you out with a good answer. I am new here myself and you could not have come to a better forum ! |

| welcome to TIG Phil I think AFA/UKG is more or less a waste of money unless you intend to sell a item or need to authenticate a rare item like DT Lukes or VC Jawas . If you aren't planing on selling the R2 you should save your money for purchasing more figures to add to your collection If you just want a nice display case there are tons available for a fraction of the cost of AFA

| I agree with OCS... if it was something that needs authentication, do it, otherwise but a nice display case or save the money altogether and buy something else.
As for the condition, the sticker isn't perfect but that is me and I am still looking for a minty loose one for my collection.
Final note: I have already removed one figure from an AFA case to set it free for my loose collection, so you can see my preference on AFA for standard stuff is to not AFA them.
Anyway.....
EDIT My bad... forgot to say, 'Welcome to the site!' |

| I agree with James on this. AFA has its place, i.e. authenticating a rare variant or prototype or such, but for more common items I would save the moeny and just display it in a loose acrylic case if that is how you want them to look or just put on a figure stand on a shelf like a lot of other loose collectors do. I really only prefer loose so I dont advocate AFA anyway except for authentication purposes. |

| It is decent but roughly middle range yellow. These r2's are hard to find in pristine condition.
But i have seen some high AFA sell for 300-400-500$ on Fleabay. But the sticker was ivory white. So looking at yours it would probably get half of that price but this is for a complete one. If you are missing the saber that is a big chunk of the asking price gone right there.
If your intent is to resell this r2 then put it on ebay with a minimum price and see where it goes from there. If it is your own collection piece then dont waste your money to have someone say to you that it looks cool. We know it. Everyone know it. Paying someone to get vindication is a waste of money. These are rare but not that rare. I would only pay to do or get an afa for blue snaggy, luke dt or VC jawas and yak face but not for common or semi rare figures. What you pay AFA to get this figure entombed in an acrylic case would have bought you another good looking figure...

| Welcome to TIG I'm going to agree with the majority here as well. AFA has its place without a doubt but, as James said, it's good for authentication of a rare item or possibly for a high grade (85 and up) if you want to maximize profits. Looking at R2, I'd guarantee you'd never recoup the money you spent grading it. |

| Hi Phil welcome to the forum, any pop up saber R2 is a good score, and yours is great, but not by UKG or AFA standards, you would get the lowest grade with that because of the dome and sticker, so its not a figure worth grading but a fine figure for loose collection. cheers |

| I would say no. You want an R2 that has a white sticker and not a yellow one. I am sure you can find one on here or on RS that is in a bit better condition. I have a full loose AFA graded collection....just wanted you to know where I come from. Good luck. |

| Hello Phil, welcome here ! I agreed with all comments above. AFA is really only worth for very rare variants or protos. Keep you figures "free" . Seeing all this nice figures in acrylic tombs, looks like Han solo in his freezing chamber to me (no offence) |
