Saw it the other day, never saw it coming. But disney isn't that bad. It's been some great movies and maybe this makes way for a lot more movies. I'm holding my thumbs.

I still really have no idea how to feel about this. My thoughts are that a LOT of things are going to change.
Celebrations as we know them could be a thing of the past. With Disney being as large as they are they will have no real need for Reed Entertainment or Official Pix to run the conventions.
Personally, No involvement from OP would be fine with me.... I also see Celebration becoming an anual event, probably as a cap to the Star Wars Weekends.
Licensees could also be in trouble. Does this mean that in two years we will be seeing "Disney" on the bottom of toys and collectables, instead of our beloved "LFL"?
Disney now owns EVERYTHING Star Wars. Every copyright, every trademark, every sound, image and character. Think about this....
I guess it is going to have to be a waiting game. We will know more over the next few months, and with the release of Episode 7.
Personally, I just want Disney to STAY AWAY from LFL. Own them, fine, I guess. But keep out of the day to day operations and let LFL run themselves.

Yeah, that is worrying. I agree.

Yes, Lucas has a number of education based charities that he has created (Edutopia and the like). I had read that he was putting the money into those efforts.

Oscar-winning writer Michael Arndt, who penned Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine and the upcoming Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, will write the screenplay for Star Wars: Episode VII.

Interesting and surprise choice. I really liked Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3. He's yet to be judged on the Hunger Games #2 but that could be promising. He also wrote screenplay for Phineas and Ferb which I haven't seen.

Certainly an interesting choice! I really liked Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine as well. Looks like the Phineas and Ferb feature that he's scripted is still in the works. I'm a big fan of the show and its creator Dan Povenmire who has a very consistent and high standard in the writing so this looks pretty solid.
Of course we won't know until our butts are in the seats two + years from now but so far it seems like things are lining up very well.

But I do hope that Disney does not erase Wookiee Life Day from the official Star Wars canon. I know the Holiday Special movie is bad, but it is so bad that it becomes good again, at least in my book.

Yay
I wonder how badly this will affect Wookieepedia?
Truth be told I gave up on the expanded universe nonsense years ago, in my opinion, the only real canon should be the movies & any stories written or developed by Lucas.
I still live in hope that Disney will one day release the original theatrical versions of episodes 4,5 & 6 on Blu-ray.
(Personally the only 2 changes I don't like are Han not shooting first & Darth saying "No Noooo" aloud just before he tops the Emperor, his silence just feels more dramatic for me).

Personally, I'm completely okay with them scrapping the entire EU. Except for the fact that Boba escapes the Sarlac, Shadows of the Empire and the Thrawn trilogy. I never got into any of the other EU stuff. I know a lot of people are very die hard about it though.
