So far so good... I was about 8 miles away from the May 3rd, 1999 F5 tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma. At the time, I was in the Guards. Threw on my uniform and rushed up to help look for people in the rubble. It looked like a nuclear bomb went off (not kidding).

That tornado, a bit over a mile wide, clocked the fastest wind speeds ever recorded (316 mph), then of course last year... El Reno/OKC twister was the largest (wide) ever recorded in history... 2.6 miles wide. Just think about that. One that was over a mile wide with wind speeds over 315 mph and then one with 200+ mph winds that is over 2 1/2 miles wide. Death... pure death.

Season is starting. We will see more of it. We always do, unfortunately. It's just funny seeing us Okie outside looking for them when the sirens are going off instead of getting in a shelter!

After a month in Oklahoma I was glad to finally be on my way to bigger and better things . Don't get me wrong , Oklahoma's okay if your into a flat landscape , 2 trees , a bunch of wheat and Republicans as far as the eye can see but I'm really glad to be on my way to another location   

My next destination is a place called The Chickenshack ... sounds different but hey , I'm up for anything .

I thought I would be glad to see Tiggy land with you James. Having seen the latest pictures, I'm not so sure.    Aren't there laws protecting innocent travellers from being subjected to that sort of abuse?

The overnight accommodations at the chickenshack left a little bit to be desired ...



The Hippie said this was perfectly normal in Oklahoma and it is all just part of the "conditioning" for my visit :scratch: 

I was barely able to sleep all night because he kept whispering "It Place's The Lotion On It's Skin" and was quite insistent .

It only got weirder when he started lowering meerkat's into the hole ...

Today was a good day - the hippie was out working in his garden all day and left me alone with his wife . She took pity on me and snuck me out of the hole and get me some fresh air   

She had to be quick so the hippie wouldn't catch us and punish me but during my brief escape she took a few candid pictures ...





She was particularly proud of this set of glasses and tray made for Knox Oil of Enid by Acee Blue Eagle . They were given away as premiums at gas stations in Oklahoma during the 1950 - 1960 era . They had artwork that represented famous Native American Indians . The set is still missing a Pitcher but at least she has the tray which is a tough part to find  .
