| Just wandered what peoples thoughts were on trying to encourage sellers to keep the prices of sold items in old FS threads rather than just marking items as SOLD.
I dont know if there are any draw backs that I haven't thought of but it would be a valuable source of price info. I must admit I haven't seen many "can I get a price check" threads recently but I remember a while back seeing people being told to check the classifieds for that info. Only problem is that the prices of most items are no longer there.
eBay completed listings is pretty useful but a lot of the rarer stuff that doesn't come up on eBay is very hard to price.
This may have been suggested before and maybe there are drawbacks I'm not aware of, but I'd appreciate thoughts.

| keeping the prices in the classified is a really good idea, but its up to the seller if he will leave the info or not i think |

Yes absolutely. I think the key is to encourage it rather than enforce it. I just figure that if someone is prepared to post the price in the first place they probably won't mind it being available for people to view in the future. |

| I like/prefer the idea. But buyers may not want people to know what they paid. You can sometimes work out who the buyer is from "PM sent", "item received" ...... |

Yeah thats true I hadnt thought about that, but I guess it is the sellers prerogative if they want to keep the price there. Also we are talking about the listed price and not necessarily the price it sold for. |

| I'm in agreement. I hate nothing more than doing a search for items (in an attempt to gauge pricing historically) and see "SOLD"
However I'm just as guilty of doing it sometime |

If the buyer wanna sneak with the price its only two reasons 1.His wife scans forum to see if he has a family on the side or how much money goes into the collection every month 2.He buys to flip for profit If im the seller i hadnt take any of those two reasons for deleting the price on my FS |

| LOL about your analysis, yeah-sus!! I agree, it would be a good policy NOT to remove the asking prices for future references. |

| I guess a negative might be that buyers are worried about someone coming along after the sale and trying to offer the seller more money..
I'm not talking about making it compulsory just trying to encourage people to do it to help the community.
As Liam says it would be a great resource in several years time to be able to look back at prices and make a comparison. |

In case the seller would accept that higher offer AFTER the first deal was made, that would be a clear cut case of bad seller (and buyer!) ethics. This will not be tolerated on this board. I remember a bad example a few months ago, which was effectively dealt with at that time. |

| would it not be a good idea to make a price guide up and ajust it every 6 mounths but keeping the old price in as well so you can look back to see if the price has gone up or down in years to come :?: i am shure if everyone helps you could get a rough price what figures/mocs sell for now i suppose the only flaw would be prise to what condition it is in |

To me it seems almost like it's some unwritten protocol/habit to remove the prices and replace with SOLD. I like the idea of leaving the prices up for reference. - jason11272stacey wrote:

i suppose the only flaw would be prise to what condition it is in Interesting. I remember John made a price guide for the last 17 figures using a reasonably broad price range for condition. I still use it as a guage for these figures. |

| I like that idea. It would take a lot of work too keep that updated though, maybe a simple page printing out a database which is pretty easy to maintain and containing the prices. |

| Haven't read the whole thread yet, but I agree on what I did see. I would prefer that prices be left in. RS requires it now for the most part, but some do still remove it. Its best to leave it like John said to gauge what prices certain things sell for for future references. Im not sure if I have recently, but I think Ive been leaving the prices for my sold stuff in the threads, just moved to the bottom of the page. |

| It really sounds like a good idea as I remember having a hard time on placing prices on some figures, this could definitely help. |
