Fake card question Empty
PostSubject: Fake card question   Fake card question I_icon_minitimeWed Jan 31, 2018 7:06 pm

Hey guys, I am new here (longtime lurker) and need some input. I just sold a MOC POTF AT-ST Driver to someone and they are claiming that it is a fake card. I purchased it from a trusted source years ago along with nine other MOC figures, all of which are 100% real. In addition, these were all stored away since this person's childhood. Am I going crazy? POTF AT-ST Driver cards are characteristically ever so slightly different from others in the POTF line, and every example I have seen matches mine perfectly.

Here are some photos that I took before it was sold. What do you guys think? (And yes the waffle pattern is present on the bubble seal, though I do not have a closeup as of now).

This person claims that the card is taller than true cards (which is true of all POTF AT-ST Driver's), and that the font on the label AT-ST Driver is off (I have no idea what he means by that). He also says that the reverse of the card has a huge color difference in the yellow, and that the green in POP seal is too dark. He provided his own pictures to make his case:

Tell him comparing a Taiwan card to a non Taiwan card is stupid. All correct characteristics of a vintage POTF ATST driver MOC are present, unperforated punch ( matches Taiwan punch) , double hump bubble, slightly different print colours etc. Tell them to compare any ROTJ Taiwan card to a non Taiwan card and note the length difference....

Thanks for the input. I knew I was not crazy and I know for certain the card is not a fake, as its characteristics match that of every other POTF AT-ST Driver I have seen.

Glad AJ spoke up as I am the farthest thing from a knowledgeable source on carded, but I was going to say you can see the different factory codes and inquire if that had something to do with it. One looking like tj and the other looking like ht maybe. I would have to check the factory list to see if that is correct though as my eyes aren't what they used to be.

I 100% Echo what AJ says.

You can't compare two MOC card backs made by two separate companies - who themselves had their factories in two separate countries and were completely independent to each other (e.g. suppliers, raw materials) and then say one of them is fake.

The punch looks like very much like the TJ samples I have here

By the way, HT was the Unitoys factory (in Hong Kong).
