April 27, 2016 - Question of the Week: Redesign a Product!

Question of the Week: Redesign a Product! Star-w11

Which Vintage Star Wars figure, playset or vehicle would you redesign and why?

Examples:

- Luke (Poncho) with removable helmet, gun and lightsaber

- Wampa with removable, bloodied arm & frozen cave set!

- Han Solo in Carbonite (neck included!)

- Creature Cantina with real movie sound!

I think a bespin luke with removable hand, or a removable helmet vader would be my top two. Both of those would have added play value in my opinion, and would have been fairly easy to do I think.

I would've liked to see a deluxe hoth playset . im talking deluxe here that maybe came with like 20 rebel soldiers and snowtroopers with special features like endless mounds of snow and blow apart probots and turrets . I think they could've maybe made a mini rig to go along with it as well ,

I think I'd redesign some of the hands so they would hold their guns more securely. I'd also change the rifles that have straps so they could be held, they generally look good over the shoulder but are otherwise useless.

I know production costs would have been a factor in these not happening, but all the figures that could have removable helmets would have been 'better' X-wing pilots, Vader & Luke poncho already mentioned. I do see that appeal of lots of accessories with the modern figures Embarassed

All vehicles without batteries would be altered (e.g. landspeeder, twin cloud pod, etc) to have sounds or lights or both. Stormie Smiley

And figures i would like to see altered, the emporer with a cloak (like luke jedi) and maybe anakin....?

I know it's trivial , but I wished C3PO removable limbs included his head coming off!

Catching up.

Definitely some removable helmets would have been cool. I thought the concept worked really well with Luke Stormie, Lando Skiff and Leia Boushh.

For sure! It's baffling the way some of the figures hands were designed when they got it pretty much spot on with early figs like Han Solo, Luke X Wing and Hammerhead unsure

My redesign is just a couple of modifications to the X-Wing Fighter

Longer nose.

Increased height - vehicle to include a ladders accessory for the pilot.

A redesign of the wing opening mechanism so that a real R2-D2 figure can sit onboard.

Other than the general issue with hands as I mentioned I would redesign R2-D2 and R5-D4. Specifically I would give them moulded bodies rather than use the fragile stickers they persisted with. I would also give R2 a mechanism where the light saber actually popped up rather than the slowly revealed one we have.

Paul - I definitely like the ladder idea for the X-Wing! That would make for some great photography as well.

Roger - Yes! Actual pop-up saber action would be awesome!

I assume they went the way they did with the pop up because of the rocket fett debacle. A spring loaded saber would be the same as a spring loaded rocket. Now days kids toys have all kinds of missle things going but thanks to that battlestar galactica toy we missed all of those for the vintage star wars line.
