Great thread Matt
I guess this is the closest to the display stand in our local newsagents, I remember first seeing it and wanting every figure!!! It had the same kind if process, the new figures would be hung on the display and the older ones that nobody was buying would end up reduced and in a wire basket underneath...its mad to think how long all these toys have lasted after all these years
Thankyou lucas and kenner for making such hardy toys

I remember seeing the Droid Factory commercial and immediately putting it on my Christmas wish list. I envisioned myself making all kinds of new droids for my Star Wars adventures.

I grew up in a lower class area and we were not well off then. We had the essentials but didn't get tons of toys all the time mainly birthdays and Christmas. My great aunt had bought me a wicket which I remember opening and still have but most of my star wars werehand me downs from my brother. I hadn't seen the movies and didn't feel the need to have them all at the time yet. I don't remember the exact year but I do know Jedi had just come out on vhs. My friends mother rentedit for us and we watched it I know at least three times in a row iwas hooked. It was then I knew I wanted more star wars figures. Of course by then they were turning up in yard sales and what not, so I was able to get a few here and there with birthday/Christmas money. It wasn't until the 90's when I began collecting them big time.

Here's where it all started for me:
No where near a child of the 70's or 80's, this was my first piece of Star Wars which was immediately followed by begging for the VHS' (found at flea markets )
I went into POTF-2 figures after this and specifically remember mailing away for the force ghost Obi-Wan. I didn't keep ANY of the toys.

I was born in 1985... For me it was POTF2.
I used to stare at the back of that mail away Han Solo in Stormtrooper disguise promotional cereal box while shoveling in the Fruit Loops (or any other cereal really, Lucky Charms? Didn't matter, I would pull out the FL box to take a look at the action figure). This was the promotion/Star Wars toy I was most fond of as a younger guy... it seemed like forever until the figure arrived, but when it did, oh man...
I purchased that same Fruit Loop box a little while ago in mint condition (which ironically has become increasingly difficult to find as years pass). I still have my original Han mailer with my childhood address stamped on the white box. In my collection of many great vintage pieces, my original mailer and recently acquired cereal box is easily my favorite Star Wars item in the collection. That piece really takes me back...
Thanks for the great thread Matt!

Awesome commercial. I think a lot of us put ourselves in the shoes of the kid who got to play with the cool toys in commercials!

Is that a dart board or a clock at the 0:12 second mark behind the kid with the x-wing? I love the late 70's early 80's

I don't remember any of the commercials on TV, which is weird because we watched Saturday morning shows every weekend.
It was the local newsagents and toyshop that first exposed me to SW, as they always had a stock of SW toys.
I still have my original UK Marvel annual, a bit beat up, but glad I have it after all these years.

Man, that's great! I've seen them before (obviously.. Marvel ) but what makes it special is you still have the OG.
