Seeing David's snap cape in another thread reminded to ask this question to snap cape owners... I noticed a while back that mine have the number '5' appearing two times on the female part of the stud. Do others have this number?

Hard to get pics but in hand it's definitely a '5'. On my other cape it's less defined and looks more like an 'S'.

I will have to have a look later to see. I do know that I have noticed in the past that the snap is sewn on in different ways just like you have shown Paul. One with the string going from each hole and one where the string goes to two holes. I don't know if that would indicate different factories or different workers at the same factory, or what, but I have seen that before.

Paul, I had a look. Mine has a "5" at the top but the bottom of the same snap is a "*" star sign. this is only on the female part of the snap. I see no marking on the male piece. Also on the sides of the female piece is a line, but it goes up and down like a lower case "l"

I will try to get a decent pic of it for you but all the marks are very clear with no wear.

thanks for checking Bryan. That's interesting as well about the two different stitching styles you noticed.

I will take a look at mine to see as well. I would also like to see if we can check a few repo capes as well to see. It could be a way to ID real ones from repos.
