PostSubject: Where do you stop?   Where do you stop? I_icon_minitimeFri Jul 24, 2015 4:50 pm

I finished up my Kenner run a while back, then got the ewoks cartoon line, then I got ledy set and am constantly getting more ledy stuff to upgrade, mixed in euro and pbp stuff. I still look for various stuff from time to time, but for the most part little variants like coo stuff don't interest me anymore. This brings me to my question.

Where do you draw the line? I feel like I am a completist, but honestly if the characteristics on a certain figure aren't far from different then it doesn't hold my interest. In other words, I want a pbp or poch figure if they look different, but if it is just some minute detail or coo thing then do I need it? I still have a lot on my "stuff to get later" list, but now I am beginning to think more along the lines of how many different vaders, or obi wans, or whatever do I need?

Also I have the ewoks cartoon line and want to go for the droids line, how many of you guys feel these lines hold interest to you? I am a later kid so I am more of the return of the Jedi generation as opposed to the new hope or empire generation. Being such I connect with the ROTJ and ewoks cartoon more than I do with the rest. I remember seeing them as they came out, not having to wait for the vhs (an old fashioned media style tape for you younger lot) lol! I never saw the droids cartoon, but I do seem to remember the ewoks cartoon on TV.

I guess in short are you a gotta have it all collector or just a what you connect with collector? I am more or less to the point where for me it is an Americas type focus with the cartoons, and other foreign lines mixed but I don't have to have them. So I go for ledy and Mexican bootlegs more than pbp, poch, meccano, etc...

the great thing for me is I have no line (sort of) . pretty much anyone that sees what im up to on the forums sees im on a poch and pbp run. im not going to spend 300 euros on a figure like poch luke that has a minute difference but I would on say a chocolate legs han solo because its noticeable.(I have one so I don't have too thank god) anyways ive completed the kenner stuff minus the grails(dt vader and ben) I think for me the ewoks and droids line was just a natural progression. i'll never ever drop 5000 on a vlix even if one was available to me , id rather pay my mortgage ty very much .Angry SW

so for me there is and isn't a line . I go for whatever makes me happy at the time . do I want a complete poch run SURE!!! but is that going to happen? maybe not. depends on price and availability . the great thing about this hobby is theres always something to get so it never goes away unless you choose it too. with my variants normally they don't have to be complete like my ledys , if I get them for a good price great , if I can land em cheaper then if theyre complete or not really doesn't matter to me unless its a capeless vader or something along those lines.i actually got my glasslite leia off of james (ocs)for 60$ and was happy for it because it was the last glasslite to complete the run. I coudve dropped 300 +++ on a complete one but it didn't matter to me at those prices for a cape and the rare silver jawa gun.

Nikto ledy is one of my favorites I love the drabness of the colors . I landed him for 7$ us ,so I figure great one less I gotta get .(he's pretty beat up and I am cool with it) I do feel somewhat complete owning a complete kenner run minus the death star gunner gun (vacuum ate it ) . oh well . go for what makes ya happy . when it doesn't make me happy any more then ill stop , but thatll never happen .

I jump around in this hobby always have always will . just matters what takes me at the time . ive purposely stayed away from top toys because right now im trying to focus on the Spanish stuff Poch/pbp . if I can grab a ledy or 2 along the way great , that's how this all works for me . Price / desireability / availability ....... my line lol! lol!

BTW bryan for me that coo crap will drive ya batty :I am stupid: :I am stupid: :I am stupid:   (mostly)

Yeah, I quit collecting as many coo variants. I was setting up my loose display and was thinking man I have a ton of vaders and they really all look the same from the front for the most part. I mean sure the made in Taiwan or Taiwan only has a bit of difference, but even then it isn't really drastic. That's when my coo collection came to a dead halt. Now I go for visual difference when I pick something up that is non ledy. Ledy, I still gotta have the set so those I am after. I completed my set of ledy so I am just out for weapons or upgrades now on them.

I've 'stopped' - just run out of room. I can not bring myself to do the Droids or Ewoks line, last 17 was a struggle as they hold zero childhood memories.
But like any good addict- stopping is not an option Smile

There is just too many paths to ever run out of things to collect- oddball stuff can be really economical & fun. My cardbacks take up minimal room & when I need a Star wars 'boost' I'll get more army beaters for Junior.

My collection seems to be a mix of old and new, but as far as the old stuff I like to target the stuff I either had or wanted. I have started a Han Solo focus as he is my fav from the movies and it seems I already had either most of the U.S. Kenner line with some varients large head and small, I also have one Ledy Han but I am just going to get one from each different country not like all the Hans from Mexico or the UK. Not really sure if this answers your question Bryan or if it makes sense Smile

There is no wrong answer Larry. Whatever you collect, we all like every aspect so be it paperwork, toys, specific character, etc.. It doesn't matter. The only thing I don't like that people collect are u grades. Not to turn this into another anti AFA thread, but u grades are a destruction on this hobby.

AJ you can always make some room.....just send me the ledy cardbacks and that will free up some space. lol!

I think part of the reason I like the foreign stuff is that they're ones I might need years to wait for. So by the time I'm done I'll most likely be doing it from a retirement home

Yeah I think I am a hoarder........um collector, yeah collector for life. I will for sure be collecting from my wheelchair in some nursing home. Won't care about condition so much then and will be telling all the other residents about back in my day we actually bought these toys initially to play with.....how dumb were we. lol!

Room is my limiting factor unless I can kick my daughter out of the family home.

My goal was to collect everything action figure related from Kenner/Palitoy including major variations which I'm very close to. Only got a few playsets and 12" accessories to get. I then dipped into modern to kill time (paying no more than £2 a figure) and I have a few hundred of those now. I'm now going down a focus route of R5D4 and collecting some oddball items that I take a shine too. I've enough to keep me busy for another 5 years or so.

Who needs a daughter taking up room? Give her the boot. lol!

An r5d4 focus sounds cool. I know Oli has an r5d4 focus going with preproduction pieces. There is a neat vintage sigma r5 piece which is a salt and pepper shaker one is r5 and the other is r2. Tons of cool r5 stuff out there.

My daughter is 19 now. Surely 19 is too old to live with your parents? lol!

Yeah Oli has way more cool stuff than me. I'll work on production items and then start chipping away. The sigma items are cool but I've a dilemma. Don't want the R2 part but I can't bring myself to split them up!

I'm constantly trying to find constraints for my collecting goals by limiting myself to focusses or runs most of which are unachievable to complete, whilst at the same time always seeking out new interests and focusses. It sounds like a contradiction but it helps control the spending but at the same time keeps the collecting buzz going.

I'm always downsizing my collection too, but I still try to keep my best/ or favourite bits even if I sell or break up a focus. By selling off the less interesting pieces I make sure I always have cash handy for a big grail acquisition should it come up and it keeps the collection very trim too. I could probably fit my entire collection in a couple of cardboard boxes right now. I'm really looking for quality over quantity and I'd be happy to own 10 really awesome pieces than a whole room of average stuff. The problem is every time I land something I consider awesome the hunt starts for something even more awesome. The goals keep moving.

So will I ever stop? I'd like to think one day I could sit back and enjoy my collection without having to acquire anything else. I'm not there yet though.
