Hey Everyone -

I'm hoping I can get a few of you to do me a favor. You all might remember my children have Marfans Syndrome and it can cause issues with muscles. The heart and the eyes have to be watched. In August/Sept my son Frankie had to undergo two surgeries to remove the lenses in the eyes and have synthetics put in. He came through wonderfully and got full vision in both eyes and an amazing 20/25 with glasses (he was 20/80 and 20/100 before). While I hoped that my daughter wouldn't have to go through this for a few years we have found that it's accelerated and she will have the first surgery next Wednesday the 11th. Madeline is going to also turn 15 on that Friday the 13th (great huh?). She was my Han Solo at NYCC this year and she's everything I could ask for in a daughter. These are unique surgeries but we are hoping it's like Frankie's which was a great success. They'll have to repeat the procedure (this time the other eye) in about 2 weeks if all goes well. She's pretty nervous as you can imagine. I think that 2yr age difference (from Frankie) is actually a burden since she's a little more self-aware and just scared.

So I want to ask everyone who reads this for two things. One is pretty easy, the other slightly more time consuming.

1)Please say a prayer for Madeline. I know we have a mixed bag of religious and non-religious people so I know it's a lot to ask for some. Even if you think it's a waste, please say a quick Hail Mary or something for her (or something in your religion of course). It means something to me and my family.

2)I'm hoping I can get a few people so send her a get well card. I asked this for Frankie and we appreciated all the cards. It made such a difference in his attitude. He loved opening them ,and of course reading them with effectively a new set of eyes. As much as a teenage girls pretends to not care, she mentioned to me (when he got them) that she thought it was cool and how much it lifted his spirits. So I'm very humbly asking again for the same kindness.

I was really disappointed I missed the opportunity to wish Frankie good luck with a card because I was offline for a while at the time, so I am glad I have a chance to wish Madeline all the best this time!

We will be thinking of her and hoping for a very successful recovery.

Well Madeline had a great smile on her face. She got a few cards in today. Making a teenager smile is hard enough but today it happened on it's own.

She got a laugh at "Mrs. Chickenshack" ! (Thank you so much James).

Tomorrow is the big day so I'll try to update as I can. But thanks for those who sent and are sending cards!

Sorry for the delay in updating but I'm happy to report the surgery went well. Madeline is home and resting up. I don't have much more to report on the success of it since she's still very dilated but the surgeon said it was a good surgery and we should see marked improvement!! We'll know over the next week. Then we prepare for surgery #2 which is going to be in a few weeks time.

Thank you to those who sent a card , are sending a card, and of course to everyone wishing her well. It means the world to us!
