I was going through some boxes of stuff and came across my old concert tickets  I like all types of music, but there's always a special place in my heart for metal and rock

I also found some autographs too. I'll add those later.

Feel free to add your rock and metal memorabilia, vinyl, patches, badges, tee-shirts, whatever! I know there are a few rockers / metal heads on TIG. Love to see what you have and hear a few stories.

I'm a big fan of the old school 70s stuff like Sabbath, Priest, Led Zep and Rainbow - through to 80s NWOBHM acts like Motorhead, Saxon, Tygers of Pan Tang etc - then loved thrash. Don't forget some doom, speed metal, industrial, nu-metal, whatever... there are so many sub genres I'm sure I've missed lots.

I would love to have seen Nirvana. I saw Guns N Roses at the Milton Keynes Bowl in May 1993 with Izzy Stradlin (who stood in for his replacement). I also saw the 'New' G N'R ( ) at Wembly Arena in 2006 again with Izzy in tow.

Here are the rest of my ticket stubs. Lemon Jelly and DJ Shadow aren't rock (they delve a bit), but were still awesome nonetheless. Foo Fighters were amazing - half way through their show they 'dropped' a second stage into the centre of the auditorium and played a thirty minute acoustic set on it, then went back to their main stage and played lots of stuff from their early albums.

This is a great thread, I've enjoyed reading everyone's contributions so far.

I wish I had made more effort to see more live bands back in the day, as well as in the now. But my money and time just seems to go on other things

the Monsters of Rock was an awesome event and I was lucky enough to see quite a few amazing bands, all at one venue   Pantera were by far my favorite act, but Aerosmith put on a good show as well. The line up consisted of

I don't have much in the way of vinyl, unfortunately, as I bought all my albums on CD and never really got into collecting vinyl. But I do have a few vintage albums kicking around. Most of these were given to me by my uncle,  my dad also has an awesome vinyl collection too, which I loved listening to as a young teenager. Mainly consisting of Sabbath, Zeppelin, Judas Priest and Deep Purple.

There is Nothing particularly amazing, or rare, amongst this lot, but they might have some value one day.

This next Album was one of my all time fav's as a kid. I use to love thumbing through the amazing artwork book, while listening to the amazing guitars, complex layers of sound effects and cool drumming on Jeff Wayne's - 'The War Of The Worlds'

I lost all my ticket stubs but 1 and its one show I will never forget! Thankfully it was taped to a poster I saved....



I've seen Slayer over a dozen of times and each were memorable. This show was for the Seasons in the Abyss tour.
Testament was good, Sepultura thrashed but when the lights came on for the break right before Slayer started is where it got nutz!
Entire rows of chairs on the floor were being destroyed and thrown all over to create a huge proper pit! As soon as Slayer started (South of Heaven I think was the first song) people just jumped down from everywhere to the newly formed pit. Seat covers were pulled off in the upper decks, lit on fire and thrown like frisbees.   Garbage cans thrown through the entrance windows when the show was over. Great show!  
And most of the Slayer gigs were nearly the same!

Coolest place I saw Slayer was at CBGBs where they played under the name 'Reign in Blood' for some reason. Me and my friends saw that name on the bill and took a chance. Yup.. it was fucking SLAYER!   What a fucking show!!! CRAZY!

I've seen Megadeth, Sepultura, Fear Factory, Testament, Suicidal Tendencies and a bunch more 80s & 90s thrash and death Gods in the late to early 90s all over the Tri-State area (NY/NJ/CT) and PA and DC. Loved them all!!!!
Man, I miss being you and exchanging elbows and knuckles on the dance floor!

I have some more stubs around here somewhere but here's a couple of shows I've seen. The best concert I've ever witnessed was Billy Squier in 1991. Love the incorrect spelling of his last name as it would happen again years later when I met up with him to get some things signed at a blues festival. I videotaped the show but have never shown the footage publicly. If I recall correctly my friends know Zakk and he asked them to open for him at the defunct Husky Blues café. I was going to plug into the board for taping but didn't.



I could post the below in my Zep memorabilia thread but I'll add them here. I organized the unused Zep tickets for my display. I'm missing three tickets to complete my run of cancelled '77 and '80 tour dates.



I was able to obtain a rare frisbee from Zep's cancelled JFK '77 show. Nothing is known about the frisbee and I only know of about half a dozen other examples. I'm only missing the shirt from the show to complete my run. Sadly I missed out on the shirt and only a couple of examples are known to exist. The shirt will set me back mid four figures if one shows up.



I was surprised to see a piece from my personal collection show up in the new LZ1 deluxe set book. I'm uncredited as the owner. I'll sue!



For more modern era items I put together laminated passes and tour itinerary books for Robert Plant's Non Stop Go and Manic Nirvana tours.





I also own two original Zep laminates, which are extremely difficult to track down. The '77 laminates are really tough. The '80 tour example is from the final tour they performed in Europe

I was there on the Sunday Chris. It was wet & muddy, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've got the ticket stubs & the programme somewhere (I can't say the same for the woman I took with me though   ).

It was done on a smaller scale, but I also attended a Monsters of Rock gig around 2002 with Alice Cooper (seen 3 times), Thunder, The Quireboys and Dogs D'Amour.

Nice vinyl too. One of the things I wanted to see in this thread was vinyl and just how cool some of the sleeves were with their sometimes unique and inventive designs and often amazing artworks. War of the Worlds is a good example  Gatefold sleeves are some of my favourites!


@Jay - loved the story of your mosh pit days Always bloody noses and black eyes lol
I remember in one pit, my mate lost his shoe. At some point it ended up on stage and one of the guitarists picked it up and threw it back. We saw it again later flying through the air a few times. But after the show, my mate couldn't find this shoe anywhere. So he had to go home on the bus with only one shoe WTF happened to that shoe!?!
And congrats that you went to CBGBs - such an iconic venue that was


@Robert - The Zeppelin unused tickets display is something else. And I love that frisbee - what a unique addition  Shame the book didn't give you credit  But nice you got your Peter Green letter featured anyway.

I'm curious about that one, I've seen Hawkwind about 4/5 times(they used to do Liverpool Royal court or Empire every year just before Christmas ) in small venues they were Raw/loud and we had some good nights

@Sems Fir I never had the privilege of seeing Led Zeppelin mate  But I did see Robert Plant and Jimmy Page at Knebworh (1990 I think ) a great concert 

Next up from me are some autographs.







Along with two of my mates, I saw Metallica for the first time on Sept 20th, 1986. on their Damage Inc. tour. We met the band backstage and chatted, they signed autographs for us and seemed genuinly happy to be chatting. I told Cliff that his bass solo was really cool, he took my hand and shook it and said thanks man.



A week later, September 27th, we heard on the radio that Cliff Burton had died in the tour bus accident in Sweden. Fuck.
Me and my mates just couldn't believe it as we'd only seen the band the week before and got to meet the man.
My signed tour programme is one of my best-loved collectables.  






My mates got their programmes signed too, and one of them got his bootleg poster signed (which he bought outside for a quid I think ). Kirk Hammett looked at the poster and was like Wtf is this dodgy poster? But the whole band signed it anyway.


I also got a piece of paper signed as well as my programme. Don't ask me why Lars Ulrich signed it 'Seattle' though.







Anthrax




I managed to get most of the Anthrax sigs in my programme. But way after the gig we went to a chippy and we saw Joey Belladonna outside and Alex Skolnick (of Testament). So I quickly nabbed their sigs on a pice of paper Joey Belladonna was really cool and he was sharing our chips. He was wrapped up lke an Eskimo because of the freezing weather and said he didn't want to catch a cold.









Uriah Heep



These guys were all real gents and happy to chat and sign stuff.
I was chuffed to meet Lee Kerslake as I loved his drums when he played for Ozzy. John Sinclair was also an ex member of Ozzy's touring band. Was also cool to meet Trevor Bolder who played bass in Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars band.







Dio

Again, perfect gents and happy to chat and sign. Was so chuffed to meet RJD!
Jimmy Bain (bassist) was pissed as a fart and making us laugh. He told us to not bother catching a bus home but instead go and nick a car. Then he was going on about his days as a youth in Ireland.
Was also chuffed to meet drummer Vinnie Appice (ex Black Sabbath and brother of Carmine Appice).





Also got the sig (on the back of a Helloween flyer) of Glenn Evans from Nuclear Assault.




and lastly, Ozzy, but I didn't meet him  This was free with a single (No More Tears I think).



In later years when I was playing gigs, recording and rehearsing at different studios, I managed to say some very quick hellos to Geezer Butler (Sabbath), various members of Napalm Death, various of UB40, various Editors, various Sweet, various The Hollies, John Taylor of Duran Duran, Pato Banton, and Dave Hill from Slade, and Roy wood (ELO / Wizzard). Nearly all of them Midlands connected.

I'd have to dig through my items to post various things.  I was too young to see Zeppelin.  I was only five when they last toured in the United States.  For me, they were, are, and will always be, the ultimate rock band.     Here's a couple of Billy Squier items.  Billy's first band was called Piper.  When Eddie Kramer put some of his stuff for sale I was fortunate enough to obtain the original acetates to one of Piper's albums.  You can read about them here:

When I met Billy several years ago I had him sign a couple of things.  Here's the shirt he signed with his last name misspelled.  Sorry the image is blurry.  The image was taken with an old camera a long time ago.




I also recently became the copyright owner of some original pictures taken of Billy in concert all those years ago in Texas.  I can post the following images as I own the copyright.  Don't steal my pictures or I'll sue!  



If I have some time I can take pictures of various things.  I have Led Zeppelin items pictured on various sites.  Perhaps I'll add them here.

I really don't have much in the way of memorabilia other then lots of foggy memories

I am also too nervous to approach my "heroes" and ask for signatures


The 1st time I saw Fishbone live , their singer Angelo was signing copies of a book he wrote and I was too embarrassed to approach him . So I promised myself that if I ever saw Fishbone again I wouldn't pass up the chance if I had one .

Years later I saw them again and bought this VHS tape and actually talked to Angelo for a few minutes ...




These next 2 were given to me by a very good friend years ago . He has passed away since then so they are even more special to me now ...


Very early Flotsam and Jetsam cassette tape that predates there 1st cd release - I believe it was what they sold to promote themselves at their early concerts  :






And this Infectious Grooves cassette that was signed by most of the guys in the band (including Robert Trujillo )






I also bought these Cornbugs dvds a few years ago and they are signed by Bill Mosely ...





of course you can by Cornbugs shit on ebay from Bill Mosely himself and he signs everything he sells


compared to the awesome stuff you guys have shown I know it's not much of a collection

Next up, Kerrang!


Back in the 80s in the UK - before internet - the best ways to get your rock and metal news was via Kerrang! magazine and radio shows like Friday Night Rock Show hosted by Tommy Vance.

I bought Kerrang! regularly, but sold or swapped all my issues some years back.

I did keep issue 100, though, from 1985. The US launch issue. Below are a few photos. There are some cool bands that I'd forgotten all about.

These were among some freebies given when a band I played with in the UK recorded an acoustic set for Kerrang! Radio. I used to love driving to and from work listening to their shows. Their studios at the time were located in Birmingham. I believe they're now in London.





And lastly, some of the magazine writers collaborated on a book that was published in 1983.

In the pre-internet days, a book like this, covering the history of 100s of bands, was like gold (to the spotty headbangers like me anyway ).

The cover features Mick Box of Uriah Heep.

This next project I will show requires some background info ... so bare with me


I have only worn T-shirts for as long as I can remember ... they're comfy and I don't like collars

95% of the shirts I wear are band related - I have always felt that , if I am going to be "free advertisement" , I will only promote bands that I really like  

I started saving my T-shirts in High School and over the years I built up quite the collection (at one point I had 4 trashbags full )

I generally wear the shirts until they start to get so worn out that I have to "retire" them and then add to the collection bag .

I never knew what exactly I was saving them for but a few years ago I finally came up with a plan

I started by cutting the shirts apart and only saved the good (and salvageable) designs / printing that I wanted to use ...

I bought some fabric that had iron on sticky stuff on one side - then carefully laid out the designs with the shirt pieces and then used a hot iron to attach them in place . In places where pieces overlapped I would have to use fabric glue .

Once everything was attached to each panel of iron on fabric , my wife would use her sewing machine to go around each and every piece separately to make sure they would all stay in place permanently . She had just gotten the sewing machine so her skills were a little rough but I liked the unevenness for this particular project

I wanted to try and represent a musical history of all the bands that I have loved over the years but didn't have T-Shirts for everyone . So I started buying patches for the missing artists and then Ironed and sewed them on as well .

The plan is to eventually attach all the separate panels together and make a large quilt or tapestry but right now each panel is about 2o inches tall and 48 inches wide ...

I'm not real sure how "metal" my quilting project is but the wife says when you use random cut pieces like our project , instead of perfect cut squares , it is called a "Crazy Quilt" ...  so if its "Crazy" hopefully that helps it sound more METAL
