Power Droid Oddity ??? Empty
PostSubject: Power Droid Oddity ???   Power Droid Oddity ??? I_icon_minitimeMon Dec 01, 2014 2:40 pm

I want to share this oddball Power Droid I have come across recently  Very Happy

One leg is the normal black color but the other is grey

I assume that it is simply the result of discoloration / fading with age or perhaps a result of less pigment in the plastic batch that the grey leg was molded in at the factory   unsure

I have no idea to be honest - just never noticed a grey leg on a gonk before  thinking

Power Droid Oddity ??? 12710

Power Droid Oddity ??? 12910

Power Droid Oddity ??? 11610

Power Droid Oddity ??? 11810

Has anyone ever paid enough attention to notice if there are gonk figures that have both legs grey ?

I know that the black legs are certainly the standard color and if the legs weren't miss matched on this one I am sure I would have never even noticed Wink

Can't say I've ever seen a grey leg Poerr Droid before James, but to be honest it's not a figure I've had many of, so I haven't had many to check.

you could try a few things to check, like check inside the peg hole to see if it's grey. Sometimes when legs discolour the iside of the peg hole can retain the origial colour.

Never seen that before either. Could be he faced the sun sideways in a display (seen people put his like that) and that side faded. Is the inside of the leg as bad?

Usually when a plastic discolours it only does so on the surface layer and over time the discolouration goes deeper, for example if you where to slice a discoloured limbs in half the center would still bare the original colour, I've seen this several tines whike doing customs.
obviously in this case it would damage the figure so not a good idea. Also the pkastic used on the Power Droid legs is the same hard style plastic as is used on tge torso's and not soft like the usually limbs on figures so this may be different. A small scrape on the bottom of the foot could allow you to see if the grey is still grey deeper but again this would damage the figure.

In the past I have also found that sometimes when plastic discolours the effects of this are not present or not as much underneath painted areas. Your gonk has a couple of scrapes to the paint. Difficult to tell on my phone but the plastic on these scrapes looks black? What does it look like to you James in hand?

The entire leg is uniformly grey , all sides and even clear up in the body where the gears are . I would think that , if the discoloration was due to sun exposure , the blue body on that side would be faded as well (and its not  )

I would lean towards it being the result of a poor batch of plastic mix at the factory that faded easily or even a poorly mixed plastic batch that didn't have quite enough dark pigment in it .

Regardless , unless someone has a Gonk with 2 grey legs , I am sure its just a oddity / fading / error or poor factory mix thinking

Nothing rare or special - just a bit weird geek
