| Anyone try out one of those poker chip frame pieces yet? I found one that holds 63 spots and the design is staggered instead of the side-by-side layout. I was thinking about getting this one (see link below) but I was curious if they worked well for anyone else?

Jeff I've got one of the 6 poker chip sets that I used for my Ewoks coins, but have no idea on how the 63 is. |

| Shawn,
Do the coins move around at all? I guess my concern is the thickness of the board. I want to put a frame on the wall and not have the coins moving around or tipping forwards or backwards. I know pokerchips are a bit thicker then coins which is my main concern with them not fitting right. That looks pretty nice!!!
I found a board that holds 100 spots too. That might be fun to fill up with a 62 set, variations, ewoks, droids, Millenium Mint and etc.

-Jeff There is some room for them to move around a bit. It's kind of like how the CIV medallions have a little bit of room in that frame. Back in this thread, Mark Huber mentioned lining them with felt to make it a tighter fit. You could contact him and see if he ended up trying that out. |

Shawn, I just found TIG and noticed the thread. Great job! To answer your question, I was able to line the front of the plastic with felt and cut the little triangles to glue through each hole. This makes a very tight fit for the coins. I didn't use enough glue on the triangles and they are not staying glued down on the back, but the coins themselves do not move. Frosted Lando will not fit in the new felt lined frame. I hope to have some pics of the experiment for your thread by the weekend. Mark |

I was only able to take one good shot with my camera today. With the felt lining, you are able to cover the gold piping on the original poker chip frame plus the coins are very secure. What you lose in the process is you will have visible felt triangles poking out the back (not pictured). I am sure you can line the back with felt, but the added thickness may cause the plastic fasteners to be not long enough to hold the frame together. All in all, its a great way to display a set of 6 coins regardless if you decide to line it with felt. Mark |

they look great on display Andy Thanks Andy. Glad to see this is still getting some use. I certainly don't recommend piecing a set together if you're collector lacking patience. The record time I've seen someone do it in was a little over a month, but he did it so quickly that some of the restrikes were found in his collection after the fact. Really, the ideal way to do it is to buy a complete set outright as you actually save some money that way, but it would be quite the sting dropping all that cash at once on a set. |

I would like to still keep the coin chart going. If you'd like Tim I could add you as an editor to help with it. Just pm me your email that I can use with google docs. |

I agree with this point, and the other way to acquire a complete set of the 62 Vintage POTF Coins is to purchase a complete collection whenever one shows up provided if you have the few thousand CA$H in hand. As for me, believe it or not, I completed my full 62 Vintage POTF Coin set by collecting each coin at a time. No joke esp for some one who is living in the "Outer Rim Territories" where Star Wars collecting is not a hyped up hobby back in the day. It took me 20 YEARS to put my Original REAL McCoy set together from the Summer of 1985 (with a few years of hiatus in between) to July 2005 when I completed everything. My earliest Vintage POTF Coins are those that were sold separately from the carded SW Action Figures by a now closed toy shop, who managed to bring them into Malaysia in 1985. They are YAK FACE, DARTH VADER, STORMTROOPER, THE EMPEROR, PRINCESS LEIA ( COMBAT PONCHO), and C-3PO. Fast forward to 2005, my last Coin was the Category V Original PRINCESS LEIA ORGANA (with R2) plus the 63rd "JEDI" silver Coin. No plans at this moment to get the DROIDS and EWOKS coins, which I know many Vintage Star Wars coin collectors have gone into. |

| I am glad there's a few folks offering advice and sharing their experiences. Welcome Peter by the way! I started off quite fast as James from SWSeller was selling off some really nice ExKenner coins. At the time I probally paid a bit to much too much for them as the the prices before the Global finance meltdown were quite high. But to be honest it suited me as James reserved one of each coin for me and allowed me to buy over a number of months - a group of coins at a time. I have 13 coins togo before completing the set. So hopefully I can ask a few peeps for advice on price and legitness when a coin comes up and I am ready to buy. I'm gonna follow Shawn's and Jay's advice for the final lap - it's going to be a leasurely stroll rather than a sprint. Taking my time to pick up really nice coins as and when I can afford them. I like the advice about enjoying the journey rather than looking ahead all the time at the finish line. I have been working on my next coin for nearly 3 months now, so it going to be a really great achievement to pick up a very rare coin with out using the credit card. |

Thanks for the warm welcome Craig, and I'm glad to know that there are active Vintage POTF Coin collectors over at this forum. Now that you've mentioned about James Boryla aka SWSeller, I bought my Category II B-Wing Pilot Coin from him way back in the 4th Quarter of 2003. The coin condition is shiny and brand new, and it went well in this picture with my Vintage B-Wing action figure : - Quote :

Actually in my case it was more like a case of sprinting after the prizes that presented themselves back in 2004. Such as acquiring these four Category V Coins in a single purchase from a fellow RebelScummer " SalaciousJ" : 1) PRINCESS LEIA "BOUSHH"2) TUSKEN RAIDER "SANDPEOPLE"3) HOTH STORMTROOPER4) FX-7 (MEDICAL DROID) and by the end of 2004, I acquired my SAIL SKIFF Coin from Brian's Toys who happened to have a Christmas Sale. |
