Tried this over on RS without much input, so I apologize for the cross-post but just wanted to get some opinions as it's not a piece with many online data points or reference.

I got this on Wednesday from a nearby hock/antique shop. The card has a horizontal crease running across the card just above R2, and has a tear on the lower right and upper right corner. Blister has a few dings on it, but overall the card is pretty solid and 100% sealed. I'm looking to get some opinions on it's value in its current condition:

I saw this on RS but didn't really have an answer. If I had to speculate, I think a couple of hundred bucks. That crease is a turn off. Obviously the GDE logo's are the ones people are interested in the most. If it were minty maybe it would be $500-$700 but again speculation.

I've seen C9 examples of the US version 12 Back-A R2 go for around $800-$1200, so I was thinking the rarer Canadian example would be worth more in the range of $1500-$1800. I could be way off, but from what I've seen, the 12 Back-A's on the Canadians in general are tough.

BTW: I totally agree on the allure of the GDE (12-D) but as a 12 Back-A collector myself, I think there is an interest in the letter A variations.

I saw a mint 20bk R2 (still pretty rare) sell for $800 and I had an AFA80 20bk Luke sell for the same .

I'd say throw this on Ebay at no reserve!!

Many thanks John. Not to seem argumentative, and certainly not to be boosting what I found, but I think the 20 backs are an apple and oranges comparison. I agree about the rarity of 20 bks especially because it took me the better part of three years to find my Canadian 20 Back Fett.

However, outiside of character focuses, a lot more general interest seems to be gravitating toward the 12's these days and "A" are kings.

Also, just to be clear, I'm not sure I'm ready to sell this and I was really looking for an insurance estimate as I'm adding a short list of new acquisitions to my rider policy. My initial thought was $250 based on the numbers I posted above, even as lower grade, but complete/sealed placeholder piece.

I guess at this point, it would be helpful if someone could provide some data points (i.e. past online or private sales) - maybe even Canadian 12 Back B R2's that could be used as proof.

Sorry, just came across this post, so I apologize if you've already gotten your answer. If it helps I purchased a minty minty 12 back-B R2 4 years, private sale, and at that time it was around the $600 mark (and in my mind, it was a bargain as it's mint mint mint). I've seen an AFA graded one sell around $1000 as well. For this one, even if damaged somewhat, it still is an enticing piece for the CDN collector, cause as you know, we don't have a lot to choose from, so a few hundred for this for sure.

I'm all about the A (and B) backs too, and not GDE, so hold this as high up, even higher, than GDE in my books. I only need one more Canadain 'A' back to complete my run (damn you Leia, friggin' chicks.....), let me know!
