Star Wars has for sure influenced a lot of film makers ever since Lucas has released his Trilogy. But how about the other way around?
In the latest Chive Cast Vintage Pod it is brought to attention that there is a striking resemblence between Bossk's jumpsuit and one from a 1968 Dr Who episode.
It made me wonder whether there were any other movies, which served as a source of inspiration for Lucas and his team while making the Star Wars trilogy?
Google gave me this article, describing a few movies which might have inspired Lucas: http://cineleet.com/2008/05/22/before-the-galaxy-far-far-away/
Unfortunately there are many broken links in this article, but I tried to find them elsewhere:
Flash Gordon:
Flash Gordon:
The Hidden Fortress:
The Dam Busters:
The Guns of Navarone: https://youtu.be/eJ0Hqqvo1Gs?t=2h27m45s
So what movies do we have now?
Dr Who: CHECK!
Flash Gordon: CHECK!
The Hidden Fortress: CHECK!
The Dam Busters: CHECK!
The Guns of Navarone: CHECK!
Any other movies you have heard about or articles describing them?

Frank Capra's Lost Horizon (The way Yoda's death scene is filmed is practically the same as that of High Lama).

In the decumentary "Watch the Skies!: Science Fiction, the 1950s and Us" George Lucas states that one of his inspirations for C3PO is the Maschinenmensch from the 1927 film Metropolis.

Great thread, Paul, I was thinking of Metropolis too.
Maybe even more so with McQuarrie's original art -
