Vintage weapons, float or not? Empty
PostSubject: Vintage weapons, float or not?   Vintage weapons, float or not? I_icon_minitimeSat Jan 05, 2013 7:14 pm

I've read the sections on the main site regarding weapons and have to say, what an amazing body of work!

Some of the sections note that original weapons float, and some note that the original weapon sinks in water.

What I am wondering is this:

If it doesn't specifically note on the site that the original weapon sinks in water, is it safe to assume that it should float while a repro will sink?

Case in point: Ewok bows. Main site does not note that the originals float or sink. Is there a general rule that originals will float unless noted otherwise?

Thanks,

d.

We are continually updating the site, I do not think it's at the point where we can say that they all float unless noted otherwise. The float test can never be the only 'test' used. I'll look into the bows latter unless someone has some at hand now.

I got to agree, it's an amazing work put into it.

What you can also do is the drop test, many repros are made in resin type material which makes a different noise when it hit the table, they also sink if not caught in the surface tension of the water.
Usually they are rather easy to id.

Also worth noting with the float test is that some accessories when placed in water will at first float... then will sink when pressure is applied like tapping your finger against it or submerging. The Yoda cane and Yoda brown snake come to mind.

As AJ said there is still lots of updates to be done on the site. Hopefully we can add further info over time for all accessories re floating/sinking Smile
