Hi all,

I should get a death star playset in the mail soon and i am being told that the foam are original. i have seen photos and they look super decent and i want to keep it that way.

Do you guys have any tips on how to preserve these delicate parts? I would hate for my death star foams to turn into dust over time. I am told that the death star i am getting is actually a first issue one and that would make it even more precious.

All I can suggest is avoid heat, moisture & handling.

what about putting them in an archival bag and trying to take out as much air as possible and putting this in a dark place?

Sounds good to me, but see what others have to say on the matter.

I purchased an incomplete Death Star a few years ago (for the Dianoga). The foam that came with it was beyond saving as about 25% had already turned to powder, and the rest started to break up with the slightest touch. This set was stored in what was left of the original box & had spent over 20 years in an attic. Hence why I suggested avoiding heat & humidity.

All I can say is good luck, my dagobah foam turned to sticky sh*t, in the end it was beyond saving. I ended up selling it.

The photos i have received suggest that they are in incredible shape ( if they are truly original ) since the seller took several photos, setting them up in the trash compactor in different ways to show how they were. I believe a few pieces might be trashed but the overall look of the pics seem to indicate that the seller was able to manipulate them without damaging them so i "hope" this is the case even though i plan to store the playset anyways after i get it until "hopefully" i can get a better house and a dedicated showroom for my own personal gratification.

I have some original foam from my death star. I have it in a ziploc bag, with as much air pushed out of it as I could get. I even keep it stored right in the trash compactor. It's been three years, and so far it has held up.

Dagobah foam..... That is a completely different story. I have NEVER seen a set with original foam make it to any destination and have the foam survive shipping. What is left of my dagobah foam is in the same storage condition as my DS foam. A ziploc bag. it was already pretty much goo when I got my set, but again the bag has stopped it from getting any worse.

I hate reproduction weapons and stickers, but for foam pieces, I made my own Dagobah swamo from some shipping foam that came in at my work. I made it, and it is staying in my collection, so I am ok with that option. I have considered getting replacement foam for my Death Star, but keeping the original still sealed in that bag.

You've done a nice job of replacing the foam on your Dagobah playset. It would display better like that, than if it had no foam at all.
