Nice, have to get a set of these, will they be expanding the line, or just release the prototype set?

Just releasing the prototypes by the looks of it. Would be ace if they made the dropship though, from the second go at it in the 90's.

Now that's awesome! I wish more companies would release toys like they were back in the day, you actually had to use some imagination to play with those toys, who needs 40 points of articulation??!

Its about time these come out. I think its great their sticking to the 5 points of articulation. Hopefully they'll make figures for the first two movies.

Gotta get some of those, The original Alien movie is some of the best science fiction to grace the big screen, imo. I'd love to see them do Lego Aliens with the Bionical kits. I'm a big H.R. Geiger fan, too.

| Tracey posted this up on RS about these pieces. (If you don't know, he owns quite a few of the originals.) - Quote :
- I just finished reading through this thread and wanted to weigh in. As Bruce mentioned earlier, Super 7 contacted us a couple years ago about this project. At first I was actually excited about the idea and wanted to help in someway, but there was no way I could just let my protos go to be used in the process, so I took some time to think about it. Soon after, I ended up moving and packing everything up, and also the project got put on hold (which was actually a little disappointing). Several months later, when the project got back underway, all of my stuff was still packed away so there was very little I could do to help. Besides, I had given it some serious consideration, spoken to some other collectors and wasn't sure how I felt about them making the toys. My main concern (as well as others) wasn't the fact that they would be produced (as the originals never got past the hardcopy stage to begin with), but that some of the newer pre-production pieces might eventually passed off as vintage. However by this time the process was in full swing and Super 7 had already acquired a modern recast of the Kane and many hardcopy photographs of the other ones. As far as I know, aside from the Kane, all of their sculpts are being done utilizing photos found on the internet. At that point there was very little more I could offer, aside from answering a few questions. Overall, I still think it's a neat idea though and will definitely pick them up. As a collector it really doesn't bother me because the original unproduced pieces will always be what they are and nothing can ever change that. IMO, the only way these figures could be truly be considered "produced" is if Kenner pulled out the original acetate and wax sculpts and used them in the tooling and production process the way they did back in the day, and that hasn't happened. I would even venture to say that the injection molding and paint application process has changed drastically over the years. Theoretically speaking, It is my feeling that these are more or less glorified customs. These new figures are being produced by a non-Kenner toy company some 30+ years later and will inevitably differ in many ways from what Kenner would have done. Someone mentioned earlier that if a 12-back Darth Vader was faithfully produced and sold at retail today for $9.99 by Hasbro that it would affect the value of a vintage one. I couldn't disagree more. I mean, can't you find those all day long on ebay right now? Bottom line, it's still not the REAL DEAL. Yes, now many people are going to have the opportunity to own a close representation of what these figures would have looked like had then been produced, but IMO that's a far cry from an original sculpt or hardcopy that never made it into production back in Kenner's heyday. Again, exact copies of the UDE figures sold today having a negative impact on the originals? Not going to happen IMO. As others have stated, I tend to think it would tend to have the opposite effect. The real things will always be the real things - especially all of the painted hardcopies and legitimate weapons. The rocket Fett is a pretty good analogy, however that figure got to the first shot stage. There have been many "dead-on" customs of that figure for years and it continues to hold value and demand (again, if you want the real deal, you're going to have to pay). If anything has hurt that piece, it's the fact that more and more of them continue to turn up. I just don't see that ever happening with the unproduced Alien prototypes. As far as I know the total number known to exist is less than a dozen including the original sculpts. I'd be shocked to see more than a handful in addition to those turn up over time. Lastly, as a collector and owner of some of the unproduced prototypes, none of the magic has been lost for me. If anything, it's adds another dimension to charm of these toys and makes owning the originals even more special. Honestly, I think it all comes down to supply and demand and the number of people willing and able to plop down the kind of money it would take to afford an original isn't going to change because of the release of these figures. If you truly want an original, you're not going to be satisfied by these. BTW, for what it's worth, I have gotten a bit of interest in the unproduced prototypes as of late.
