| On Jedi Temple Archives there was a report today about a comparison between a vintage and modern figure collection. I appreciated it, and maybe you do so as well. Here is the full report: http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=9821/#details I wonder whether something similar can be done for vehicles, creatures and playsets. BTW: The blue Zutton figure was released in The Original Trilogy line in 2004 , in honor of Kenner's blue Snaggletooth. http://www.rebelscum.com/OTCsscantinaII.asp |

It could certainly be done with vehicles & creatures. As far as playsets go it would be a bit of a non starter as most of the vintage ones don't currently have a modern counterpart. I think a comparison display between vintage moc's & the modern votc equivalents could look pretty good. |

| That's an interesting comparison. With the modern I like how they made Chewie, Vader and Hammerhead really tall, but it seems like maybe they made the Jawas and Red Snag too tall?
The one figure I think that seems to bear the most resemblance to its original here is the Power Droid.

| Thank you for the link that's really impressive! I'm vaguely tempted to try something similar.
They really nailed FX-7 with the new line but what the heck is going on with 2-1B? I wonder why he has the ROTS version rather than the ESB in his line-up? |

I think the Power Droid may have been custom painted as I have not seen a modern one with that colour scheme before. It does look good though. |

| Check out how many modern variations there are: "CC - 2397 unique figures since 1995 POTF2. 139 are loose figure variations, ranging from 1995/96's pig face Leia's belt stripe variation to 2012 Kithaba's bandana colour. " from the collection of 'variation hunter' |

| Thanks AJ. Where did you find this collection, RS? - aussiejames wrote:

That's weird! 139 variations on a set of 2258 different modern figures. So only every 16th figure has one additional variant. For vintage it is totally the other way around: About 1000 (or more? Wolff?) variations on a set of around 100 different vintage figures. So an average of 10 variants for every vintage figure (paint, sculpt, COO). Why the difference? 1) Modern production shows less variety because of stricter quality control, and lesser production plants (all made in China nowadays) Or 2) Modern collectors, unlike loose vintage collectors, are not that interested in variants as they have plenty of regular figures to collect? Why trying to find new variants in case you first have to complete a run of say 50 regular R2s/Chewies/Vaders?

| The fact that in general each modern figure has a very short production run accounts for the lack of variants for each version IMO. Popular characters like Vader & Fett are re-issued very regularly, but rather than keep releasing the same figure in the new style packaging Hasbro continually 'upgrade' them through a combination of kit bashing, alternate deco & new sculpts.
The POTF2 Fett is likely to have the most variants due to full circle, half circle & no circle on the back of one or both gloves. If you combine that with the different cardbacks e.g. orange, green, with or without foil sticker, freeze frame, foreign releases, stickers etc. there are a lot of different ones for the focus collector to get. I met one Fett collector who claimed to have over 100 different card & figure combos for the modern line. |

| Holy crap, that is a lot of modern figures they have released. I have collected a few of the modern series. I have to check how many I have. |
