| Subject: Meccano Boba Fett CONCERNS/POSSIBLE Fakes?????? Sun Jan 22, 2012 11:45 pm | |
| Ok, so I wanted to start this thread in hopes of answering some questions I have about Meccano Boba Fett and answer some questions for you also who are interested in him. I own 4 Meccano Fetts so I do understand what the proper coo looks like. What I want to bring to this conversation is the fakes out there. I recently saw a Fett on Ebay auctioned off as an authentic Meccano Fett, but was really a Taiwan Fett that had its coo removed and the left leg type did not match. I also don't want to throw a seller under the bus because he or she may not know they are selling a fake/or previously removed coo Fett that is supposed to resemble a Meccano Fett To fetch higher prices. I recently bought a "No Coo" Fett from a French seller. He lives in France, bought the figure in France and sold the figure in France, to me on Ebay. I brought up my concerns of this figure and he was honest and nice enough to send me extra pics. I honestly don't know if this figure is legit because of his back right leg, which I will illustrate with pictures. His color is exact with the ones I own, the type on the left back leg is also exact with mine. So here is my concern, all the Meccano Fetts I own on the backside of the right leg, just under where the knee is, has mold lines where the fabric in his pants are. In this one the clothing line marks are smooth. I am concerned the leg has been smoothed out or tampered with. Please let me know what you think. I am willing to keep this figure for an example of a fake for future help to other Meccano Fett buyers. I spent quite a bit on this guy considering his condition. Again though, I don't want anyone to question the seller's credibility, I would just like to find out if this is legit or fake. If it's a fake, it is VERY GOOD, comparing it to my Meccano Fetts. I already wrote Joe and Wolff concerning this matter. Please don't assume it's fake. What I am looking for is is if anyone else has a Meccano Fett that resembles this one. Thanks for your time, -Steve MY MECCANO FETT ( I circled my concern, this is on all my Mecc Fetts) THIS IS THE PICTURES OF THE FETT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT and another of the pics I'm concerned about....

| My major concern that I did not mention before is that this is a Hong Kong Fett #3 on the coo chart, coo was removed, and was sold as the #6 correct Meccano coo figure. |

| We'll wait for the figure to be in your hands to double check. 'Modified' variants are not new : http://www.imperialgunneryforum.com/t2836-wrong-coo-meccano-boba-fett-on-ebay Only in the last week I was speaking to Marco about the possibility of more variant fakes appearing due to the increase in prices they are fetching |

| I wouldnt worry too much for now! there is indeed two slightly different Meccano Fetts possible...I would say.
Wait till you have the figure in hands and make some better closeups. In the meantime Ill check my archive for these two different "smooth deleted" legs.
You are right.....fakes will get more and more common on those! But the figure itself (paintjob etc) is looking good IMO (i know the auction pictures)!

| Ha...check the old coo guide from me (you pictured) and check the new: https://2img.net/r/ihimizer/img717/8350/bobafettk.jpg there you have pictured both "versions" from this coo! In the old guide the pictured figure wasnt mine. In the new guide all pictured coos are mine...so by accident I catched up both versions...LOL I can even see the dent in the middle of the no coo area on the old picture (like the one you bought) Anyway......make some closeups when you have him in hands just to be sure |

| Two! Well that makes me feel much better. Thanks for the help. Now that I look at the old guide it matches the figure I just bought exactly. And the new guide matches my other ones. Interesting! Well I learned something, but I'll also wait to get it in hand to make absolute sure. Thanks for your help Wolff, -Steve |

| Some great info from Stephane:
Hi. I take the opportunity of this thread to clarify a few things about this "Meccano Boba Fett".
Title of "Meccano Boba Fett" given to this particular figure variant "bothers" me a bit ; of course it seems to be exclusive to France, but it's the figure which was packaged on first batches of Trilogo cards (Trilogo with Palitoy style bubble), not Meccanos.
Here's a quick list of French Boba Fett figures as sold in France:
- ESB Meccano square card : the figure is a hong-kong coo, but the paint job is slightly different than regular HK figures, especially the helmet has black painting, not brown ; and the limbs tends to discolorate with time.
- ROTJ Meccano card : the figure is same as some Palitoy ROTJ cards, the figure has a blue/greyish body, regular painted knee and helmet.
- TRILOGO card with small/palitoy-like bubble : the figure is the one you refer as the "meccano boba fett" which has a scar instead of the coo (but different as the Lili Ledy).
- TRILOGO card with large etched/rounded edges : the figure is the lightgrey body, with either painted or unpainted knee.
hope that helps
| So it seems Stephane and others would prefer a new variant name for this Fett. "Trilogo Fett" seems to be what others would like. I even threw out the title "The Real Trilogo Fett", named after Joe's article on Trilogo Fetts. And the light blue (Trilogo, with painted and unpainted knee) would be called the "Europian Fett" or simply "The Light Blue Fett". This obviously is different from what collectors call these Fetts now but if it's implemented, with time, the collector community will catch on. Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions regarding this. Thanks, -Steve |

| Just got this guy. A little paint loss but he matches the Mecc Fett I was questioning as a fake until Wolff confirmed it was legit. Nice to have a second one now that matches this version exactly. My other version, which I have 4 of, seem easier for me to find. Not sure if one is more rare then the other smoothed leg Mecc Fett? : ) Thanks for looking. -Steve
