Hi Guys, this question kinda spills into toy collecting since it relates.

For the longest time i have wondered who had invented the star wars logo or font depending on your point of view i guess. I read the making of star wars book and it is my conclusion that the logo was based on one of Ralph McQuarrie's poster but it is a thing that i am not even sure of. There is no mention in the book of who had actually created the logo font.

Now in relation to the toys, i think Kenner tweaked the font enough that lucasfilm had to adopt their style fonts for movies after the toys came out but i am just speculating.

For those hardcore fans in the know...can you give us an answer of where the logo actually came from?

it is one of those mysteries like the caramilk one that you always have teasign you in the back of your mind but never find an answer for...

Really wouldn't want to say for definate, but I'd go with Ralph McQuarrie as well. He was the conceptual artist from day one and back then it's not like George Lucas had hundreds of artist employed. Star Wars was made on a tight budget really, so I'd say Ralph!

I have my doubts. Ms Rice's statements caused some big controversy on the web, mainly because of her claimed link between fascism and the Star Wars logo as well as the origins of the Helvetica font.

On theswca there is a great article about prerelease items. Here you can see the evolution of the Star Wars logo till its present day appearance. Ms Rice is not mentioned in this article. Ralph McQuarrie is, as well as ad agency of Doyle, Dane and Burnbach.

I like that earlier logo version with the pointy “W”, but IMO the final logo is better.
