I have my doubts. Ms Rice's statements caused some big controversy on the web, mainly because of her claimed link between fascism and the Star Wars logo as well as the origins of the Helvetica font.

On theswca there is a great article about prerelease items. Here you can see the evolution of the Star Wars logo till its present day appearance. Ms Rice is not mentioned in this article. Ralph McQuarrie is, as well as ad agency of Doyle, Dane and Burnbach.

I like that earlier logo version with the pointy “W”, but IMO the final logo is better.
