DROIDS GUIDE & DISCUSSION THREAD

DROIDS GUIDE & DISCUSSION THREAD 2tkbsRG
Artwork by Thargoil

Introduction

Originally released in 1985 and later in 1988 by Glasslite, The Droids action figure range was inspired by the animated cartoon series on the same name. The line released by both Kenner & Glasslite saw only one wave of action figures. A second wave was planned for release in 1986 by Kenner and although prototype figures exist they never saw production as the cartoon series was pulled due to a decline in popularity.

Except for Boba Fett and the A-Wing pilot the first wave mainly consisted on new unique action figures. Whilst two more of the action figures from previous ranges received new paint schemes C-3PO (Removable limbs ESB) and R2-D2 (POTF pop-up lightsaber).

List of Released Figures

List of Released Vehicles

  • A-Wing Fighter
  • ATL Interceptor
  • Side Gunner

Cardback Designs

Although the Droids line only consisted of 13 action figures (if you include Vlix which was released in Brazil only), a total of three cardback designs were produced. Left to right Kenner (USA/Europe), Kenner (Canada) and Glasslite (Brazil). The full range of card backs can be viewed here.

Production Matrix

The Droids action figure line was manufactured worldwide in no less then 5 different countries, a Production Matrix can be viewed here.

Hey Stephan,

WOW, fantastic thread.

Good idea to include the Kenner and Glasslite comparisons as well. cheers

I am happy that you used the TIG house style for variant threads. Cool

Looking forward to future entries!

BTW: Maybe change the title in DROIDS GUIDE & DISCUSSION THREAD?

Well you either love 'em or hate 'em!!!

I never knew the figures existed as a kid but I remember watching the cartoons on TV when I got home after school, so for me that's a good enough reason to collect them.

PS If anyone out there wishes to donate a Vlix i'll gladly accept the gift in order to complete the guide Wink

Awesome work Stefan, well written, well presented, well done! cheers

Nice to see the Droids line get a mention, like you said, love 'em or hate 'em, to me they are still a part of the vintage line as a whole. I didn't realize the Glasslite versions where different either, I bet that silver stormie blaster for Kea Moll is a pig to find!

Great work dude, look forward to seeing the rest
