I was trying to remember the first few SW toys I owned as a kid - I'm not sure if these are in exact order but these are the 5 that I
remember the most, and some of the reasons why:

1.
Stormtrooper.
(I remember my teacher confiscating this in class because I was making him shoot my mate's Luke - luckily she handed it back at the end of the day).


2.
Darth Vader.
(he was so cool all in black with his removable cape and saber!)


3.
C3PO.
(a shiny gold robot!)


4.
Obi Wan.
(now Vader could have a proper fight! We used to take Ben's cape off and lie it on the floor after Vader had 'ran him through' - such a patient re-enactment of the movie! lol)


5. X-Wing fighter battle damaged.
(A great Xmas pressie! Thanks Mum!)

1) The very first Christmas I can remember was when I had my first haul of SW Toys. I was lucky to have: The Millennium Falcon, Snowspeeder and Scout Walker. I remember the Falcon being huge and (probably because I hadn't seen ESB at that stage) I wondered what the strange (Bespin) scene was on the front of the box. Although I played with and loved all, I think the Snowspeeder was my favourite at the time. Probably because it was easy to "fly" around the room with its smaller size and super cool flashing guns, I must of went through packs and packs of batteries firing the Snowspeeder.

2) That same Christmas I had a few figures too. I'll never forget the smell of Darth Vader’s Vinyl after opening him up in the early hours of Christmas morning. I also must have had Boba Fett that Christmas too but my first memory of Boba was also my last. Jonathan Peters (wherever the f**k you are these days LOL) threw him over the school yard wall during the first days of school in January. Isn't it weird! I can't remember where I left something I put down 5 min ago, yet I can recall with full clarity the full name of the kid in Primary School Infants who lost my Boba Fett when we were 4.

3) My Mam and Dad would also buy me the cheaper mini-rigs. I remember first being the MLC. They got me Han Hoth to go with it. My Mam still remembers buying me the "Tank with the Bubble".

4) Speeder bikes! I had two with Princess Leia Poncho and a Biker Scout. I remember using my Mam's Dining Room Table as Endor where all the wooden legs of the chairs and table was the forest

5) The last Star Wars Toys I received came the following Christmas I remember having loads of mini-rigs and figures. The two larger toys that I received were the Tie Interceptor and Jabba the Hutt Playset. (I still have both). It was with Jabba that I finally had Luke Jedi. My parents went out of their way to get me all of Jabba’s henchmen for Luke to fight.

Dennis - that's ok, I'd have been very happy to get a Wampa and a SnowTrooper! Cool!

Ham - I always wanted the speederbike too, my mate had one, it was so cool. I finally got one... erm... last year lol.

Craig - great stories! Yes, the smell of that fresh vintage on Christmas morning! And I agree how odd it is remembering fine details of names like the kid who threw your Fett away lol! Must be the trauma!

my best memories would be

1) The Christmas I got my ATAT - I LOVED that thing. By far my favourrite SW toy and has led to my fledgling ATAT focus now. It was snowing outside (was living in NYC at the time) so out I want and had the first of many battles of hoth

2) my first figures for christmas in 78. I got 4 I think and c3PO was one of them. I remember him cos his arms and legs were so stiff I had to climb to the top of the bbq outside and throw him down to the concrete to loosen him up!!

3) Biker Scout and General Madine. I was in London just before ROTJ came out. All I'd seen was the promos/trailers and was looking through the figures in Harrods. I still remember finding these two new characters and nearly having kittens. I snapped them up and played with these two guys all night (I though Madine looked like such a bad ass at the time lol)

4) My first boba fett and I went swimming one day at the local beach. Boba can't swim too good in all that armour. I remember the bubbles coming out of his backpack as he sunk beyond sight into the murkyness below (kinda like Leo in titanic) never to be seen again.

5) My toltoys deathstar. Man I gave that trash compactor a workout over the years! Still have it in its 'played with' condition and would never dream of upgrading

1. Luke Jedi (Even as a kid Jedi Luke was my favorite. I still have my original figure and he was only one of two that survived my childhood.)

2. Green The Force Lightsaber (Used to reenact scenes from the movies and my own adventures on Tatooine (Nevada Desert). This is another item that I still own albeit heavily battle damaged. )

3. Jabba Playset (I loved the tail swishing action when you moved Jabba's head and being able to store figures in the throne.)

4. Millenium Falcon (This was a hand me down from my older brother, so it was missing most of the pieces by the time I got my hands on it, but I still thought it was a fun toy.)

5. Lando Skiff and Leia Boushh (I remember my brother got me these for Christmas one year and just because of that they will always be fondly remembered)

In no particular order:
1. Greedo - the last figure I needed for the complete collection (of 77)
2. Chewbacca Bandolier Strap the ammo boxes kept all my weapons safe(I think I only lost 1 or 2 )
3. Rebel transporter- it was/is huge
4. R2D2- I'm not sure why, it is the most play worn figure I have (the dome still clicks )
5. battle damaged X-wing- it had a light & sound

honourable mentions:
speeder bike- cool break apart function
AT-AT -because I didn't have one (now I have 2 )

It's a Kenner Employe at Toy Fair

Tom N at one time confirmed he knew the guy and he was still working in the Toy Industry. Kind of a cool story to go with it.

Got all these plus a few other for Christmas one year, but those are the main ones who got blown up on the ice bridge. As for other SW items

1 SW lunch box (took it every day. )

2 Yoda latch hook kit. It was fun doing that thing.

3 Presto Magik sets. Nothing like rubbing the characters on your fav scenes.

4 Stormtrooper halloween costume. That was a halloween party to remember.

The following 5 would be my choice (in no particular order)

1, ROTJ Laser Cannon my Nana came down with Cancer in Oct 1984 this was a tough time for my family especially my Mum unfortuantely my Nana passed away early in the December. That Xmas i got a decent amount of Vintage Star Wars a good hour after my presents were opened and i was playing with them my mum came into the front room with an additional present it was a small box wrapped up and on the label is said you can be anything you want take care lots of love Nana when i opened it it was a ROTJ Laser Cannon. My mum later told me that my Nana had made the trip whilst ill because she specifically want to get me a star wars item.


2, My Snow Speeder - This bad boy was seriously put through its paces the stairs were quite steep at my mums house and the shape of the snowspeeder meant he could fly down them at break neck speeds i remember one crash where Luke Jedi (he was my pilot) flew out the cock pit mid crash and bounced off the front door!

3, My Battle Damaged ROTJ X-Wing Fighter the coolest of the cool as i had no imperial ships my X-Wing spent its day kicking the arse out of my Snowspeeder and Rebel Transport.

4, Luke Jedi the coolest figure there every was not 1 not 2 but 3 awesome accessories!

5, IG88 - I didnt get a great deal of imperial figures so IG88 teamed up with AT AT Comander (IG88 was king) to lead a cobbled together army of droids, cantinas and a stormie against my rebel figures!

I was quite touched by that story Jay. My Nan died suddenly too when I was 10 - I was devastated at the time as I was very close to my Nan. (both my mam and dad worked so when I was young I used to spend hours after school up hers and on the saturday whilst the folks worked). I still keep the last xmas pressent she bought me - I pair of spiderman racing gloves for my BMX.

It was pretty much the same for me both parents working meant i spent a lot of time at my granparents growing up as well bud.

The Star Wars toys which I remember the most (and allow me to make a personal top-6).


1.Stormtrooper
2. Chewbacca

My mom bought both figures for me when I was a 7 year old kid in '78. I will never forget that impressive moment I saw those first twelve hanging on the toys department of V&D (kind of dutch Wall Mart).Even without having seen the actual movie at that time, those attractive blister cards had mastered to capture my full attention.

That day, my mom bought two figures for my sister as well. Those were the last ones for my sis, she was more into Playmobil.

3. Luke Farmboy
4. R2-D2

I especially liked the nice click sounds which R2 made when rotating his chrome dome. I also enjoyed the laser sword feature coming with Luke.

Chewie was for sure my most favourite figure with his cool bowcaster which I actually regarded a big machine gun at that moment. However disaster stroke a few weeks later, when Chewie was thrown into a well by my younger cousin. I spoke to him a few weeks ago, and he admitted he could still remember that moment, and regretted it. We laughed and drank some beers. Two grown ups still remembering an old childhood tragedy.

To relief my sorrow about the drown Chewie, my mom let me choose another figure. In for something new, I picked out Darth Vader this time, as he looked cool and Luke needed somebody to duel with.

5. Darth Vader

After Darth Vader my collection grew steadily the next few years. However it always stayed very modest. I never owned more than 40 figures, a few mini rigs (INT-4, MLC-3, MTV-7), Taun Taun, and Hoth Wampa.

Years later, it was June 2009 I came across another figure: TIE Fighter pilot. He is my no. 6 on the list. Below I tell you why (copied from SW forum UK).

It was only one year ago, when I entered a small comics shop in The Hague, and came across a vintage TIE Fighter pilot figure. As a kid it was my biggest wish to add this cool black figure to my modest collection of Star Wars figures and mini-rigs. Unfortunately the figure was virtually absent from the dutch toyshops which I used to visit at that time. Till one day, I entered a shop and saw the One Card in the front row of a rack at the back of the shop. I slowly walked towards the card, a moment of complete joy which appeared to last a life time,…..only to see it taken away by another kid, just seconds before I could get my hands on it….Taken away from me….My precious…..

In the upcoming years after this traumatic event, I still managed to finish school and university somehow. I even got a job, a girlfriend, a car, a house, and a cat, so everything seemed pretty normal….But was it?

Deep inside me there remained this little boy, still in sorrow. Sometimes, while trying to sleep, I could hear him cry in the dark emptiness of the night. I could even sense his grief during the day, in the cinema when watching Episode I (although that could be the adult me) or in the toy shop fully piled with testosteronic Luke and Darth Vader action figures back in the 90s.
You understand, while standing there in this shop in The Hague, 27 years after that traumatic event, I HAD no choice but to stop this little boy from suffering any longer. And that’s exactly what I did. I bought TIE Fighter Pilot, to bring back balance to the Inner Force.

The little boy recovered and was happy again. Simultaneously an unstoppable chain of events was unleashed. I started searching on www for more Star Wars stuff to complete the little boy’s vintage collection. Meanwhile, half of the attic is now occupied with vintage Star Wars, and we are still happily collecting….

Jay and Craig - touching stories about your Nans. My Nanny Elsie always used to buy me the Britains toy soldiers - I had loads of the 7th Cavalry and the Union and Confederate army on their little green stands. Also some cool WWII German infantry.
Anyone remember Britains?
They still produce them but gone are the green stands now.

- The original 12 - I got them all for Easter when they first came out.
- 12" Darth Vader - I still remember getting him for X-Mas and being beyond excited.
- The Cantina aliens - My brother and I went bonkers when we first saw them on card back. Greedo was my favorite figure from the time he came out.
- Having a Darth Vader stolen at the zoo (which I had just purchased on the way to the zoo) after I carelessly left him on the bathroom sink. Went back and of course it was gone.
- With my Aunt at the mall, choosing between a 12" C-3PO or 12" Paul Stanley, both of which were on closeout. I went with C-3PO and shortly there after regretted that. But as an adult collector in the late 80's I bought all the KISS dolls, and the regret was gone. Now it is just a funny thought.

Hey Paul! hope you are enjoying life in France! This is a great thread. I used to have the WWII army men I am not sure if they were made by Britains. The Germans were grey plastic and the British/Americans green like in Toy Story, they had cool accessories like sandbags, cannons and barbed wire. i am sure my cousin had one with a plastic parachute. I remember the red plastic flags for each army base being really over sized too – about 4 to 5 times taller than the soldiers themselves.
