Hi That's a heap of questions Are you mixing up Tol for Top? There is no Toptoys Nien Numb so I'm confused. Are you closer than Wolff to completing 'the' list? |

| I'm pretty sure: the Toltoys Nien numb is not unique & certainly has pegholes. None of the Toptoys have pegholes. So give us a sneak peak of the book layout |

| thanks thought so ..as well. I will - in a few weeks, - Now everything is in a word DOC. at 627 mb. so I need to transfer into individual pages for each figure and edit template for the layout. (as well as find colletors willing to share photos of some for the data. I am only doing vintage star wars figures. not card backs, alsthoug I wnat to also make sure I have what came on what card or baggie.. here is basically how data is laid out:: #s indicate I have that figure- or photo and is confirmed. Vx - is a loose estimated valuation- although this is based on US market avaialbility not European. | Welcome to the forum Robert Wow this book sounds like a hell of a project! Have you thought about maybe working together with some of the top variant collectors who are already working on similar projects? Also have you got or plan to get a publishing deal? Cheers Jay |

| Ii would be glad to discuss my research with other variant collectors in order to make sure all the DATA is correct. -since the web, can be incomplete or filled with errors- like the chewy which sold on ebay a week or so ago which stated it was a ledy in the ad but I believe actually was a UZAY fig.
Can you recommend any people to contact. I certainly will credit all individuals... The most important factor i am finding difficult is to find out where some originated, like kenner baggies or Palitoy-vs trilogo etc... no ideal in publishing yet- I have some lead but need to have a better draft together to present first.

| Welcome Robert! I think you will find a lot of useful information for you book here. You could start with reading some old threads: Lili Ledy PBP or (of course) the great LL thread from the German boards: German LL thread You will also find this place much more peaceful to variant collectors than rebelscum Uli |

| "Toltoy nein numb was issued with a 2 color gun, grey and black" are you sure? Personally I dont like the idea of a price guide, it will be outdated as soon as it gets to print & as you have pointed out price variations between countries can be extreme. EDIT most of the bootlegs have been covered by JohnA already.( http://theswca.com/images-bootleg.html ) |

Yeah i agree that bootlegs have already been extensively covered by some of the hobbies biggest bootleg collectors and i also believe Joe Y who has been collecting bootlegs for about 15 years and is the top man in this field is in the middle of building a bootleg website. I think you should consider speaking to Wolff and Mike Skywalker they have spent years building a figure variant guide and are 2 very knowledgble / respected people in the variant collectors world. I personally collect MOC but i do dabble in the odd variants so im by no means as knowledgeble as the hardcore variant collectors but i did put together the following website with Wolff and the help of the communtiy www.imperialgunnery.com so i know a little bit From reading your posts i can see quite a bit of the information you have posted so far isnt correct or acurate and some of the questions you ask suggest that you need to learn more For example the relationship between Poch, PBP, Tri Logo and Palitoy when it comes to these variants the first rule regarding then is there is no rule each figure needs extensive research some figures are exclusively POCH some are Exclusively PBP, Some can be found on PBP and Tri Logo etc etc the list goes on! One thing i will say is the majority of figures listed as rare or specific variants on ebay are incorrect more than 60% of the time so using eay for a reference can cause more problems especially if you dont know the information (or are trying to confirm) and are taking it from eBay. AJ is right about the price guide variant prices change day to day so any price guide you pull together would be obsolete by the time it came to print. What ill say is you have definately come to the right place here at the TIG Forum You mentioned you have 1500 variants this is a very large number and certainly much higher than what other people have documented so far do you have pictures of all of these? Cheers Jay |

| yes I mulled over a vallution guide- But I think it is somewhat hidden in th format , of factoring the values. yes all price guides are outdated one way or another, Here in the States were back to what 1990's prices? I do not think it will effect ability to collect any of the rarer Vars. - But may help break a few out of the clutches of hoarders. ?
Pretty sure on the 2 color gun - but it could be a custom job. as for the 1500- I need to determine id some - like a tri PBP or a trin and PBP shold be considered 1 or 2. if a IG88 with painted limbs, or a Chewbacca with painted dots and bandolier , is a custom or variant so ruling many out we could be down near 900 - have documentation- as for Ebay - yes the data came form there - and yes am finding is incorrect a lot- thusly I need to establish some - if they are legit or not.

I'm pretty sure the IG-88 with the painted limbs is a custom. The photo reference that is shown on the cardbacks of IG-88 with the black painted spots on his limbs is a prototype (photo sample) and was never released that way in production. I hope that helps your research out a little! |

Hi buddy I think this is where the problem will be as your taken data from eBay and about 60% - 70% of variant data on eBay listings is incorrect bro. I seriously recommend collaboration buddy it sounds like you have been trying to do this in the dark on your own with just eBay as your main reference. You’re trying to write a form of variant designations that have in many cases already been written through collaborative efforts of variants collectors who have worked together cross referencing all the information to ensure accuracy for many years now where each confirmed variant was looked at with full cross referencing including tracing them back to MOC's for providence etc etc. As I highlighted before some of the questions you’re asking suggest that you have seen the terms like PBP / Tri on eBay etc but as yet don’t understand specifically how that side of variants are currently mapped out and processed. At the same time some of the things posted so far suggest that you’re mixing in custom figures and stuff and dont yet have the understanding needed to attempt this type of project yet - Not without spending a lot more time on here working with other people first anyway. For example look at just Darth Vader - I personally have over 25 Darth Vader’s all are unique variants some are traced back to PBP cards others to Palitoy then there is the Clipper issue etc etc and there is still more that I haven’t got including the Japanese Tarka and Taiwan only (not made in) to name a few and these have been confirmed by collaboration with variant and MOC collectors from around the world through years of research. Here is what I would recommend buddy - Work on 1 figure at a time. Once you have picked your first figure take detailed macro shots including COO's of each variant of that figure you own and then post them in a thread here on TIG that will allow every to help confirm what you have and what the right designated terms are for each variant. Cheers Jay |

| I have about 400-500 in my collection right now. the 1500 is an estimate of variants i need to verify. including boots etc.. 900 is probably closer accurate for what will be dismissed. including bootlegs etc. since there's are what 10 different color cars of a polish atat driver? i think my number is pretty close to what i am hearing here... yes much of the data came form web/ ebay /reserch, and my own collection of 3500-4000 figs. and yes there is a lot of misinformation-thus ,he need to verify with others. I plan to have at least 3 confirms to substantiate its an actual mold press or paint op variant.
the idea of going figure by figure would work fine- and since it appears there are 2 people working to publish- I am considering only concentrating on what is and was available in the North America market. - (which I could practically go to press tomorrow with.
It was vary common for us here to pick up tril-ogo cards at the discount wholesalers like KB toys etc. Tri's were not hard to get here in the US. and even sometimes mixed in with regular kenner stock.. thoughts??

Hi Buddy Sorry if im a bit confused here you mentioned having 500 figures then later said you had 3500 - 4000 how many do you actually own and have the ablilty to take pictures of? Also im not sure what you mean by stating to concentrate only on the North Amercian Market i cant see how that would really be possible when you consider most variants were released not just on Kenner USA MOC's but also across other lines like Harbet (Italy) GDE Canadian even kenner Figures were imported and packed on Palitoy MOC's as well. If certain variants were exclusive Kenner USA only then i could understand the logic but that wasnt the case so thats why im confused? Yes Tri Logo's were sold at points in the US when compaines imported them cheaply at the end of the line but Tri Logo's are European releases thats where they were packaged aslo Tri Logo has lots of sub catogories as well i suggest reading the Meccano to Tri Logo book to gain a better understanding of there development and distribution. Can i just ask what ytou mean by this question statement - "since there's are what 10 different color cars of a polish atat driver?" Cheers Jay |

| For the Polish AT AT Driver, there are more than 10 different color schemes in all. That includes the 1st, 2nd, 3rd gens, and deluxes. Theres 21 confirmed photoed on SWCA just for the deluxe versions alone. And like any bootleg collector will tell you, there are new ones coming out of the woodworks all the time that have not been documented. Like Jay said, JoeY, who is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) bootleg and knock-off collector there is, has been working on a site for the last few years and he's still searching for items that haven't surfaced yet. |

| hey Neonboy, I know where you coming from. We all started as collectors searching the bay for years...well most of us...before joining forums like here or RS or other platforms. The thing is: Most information and stuff is talked about every day in such forums. Also most of the real tough variants are sold in classfied sections of these forums and thats not even the truth because most never appear and were sold from friend to friend (or collector to collector) without seen by anyone else! What Im trying to tell you is: Ebay is full of scumbags with no clue of anything! I can show you every day a listing with a non variant like discoloration, fake, repaint, etc. that is sold for real! Its very dangerous to even say: If I confirm it three times I can surely say its a variant. A disoloration i.e. like the green limbed Chewbacca turns up very often and is for sure no variant! What Im also trying to say is: Without beeing in such forums for years and learning every day you will not be able to make such a book in my own opinion. That sounds maybe harsh and maybe some think I only tell you this because Im also trying to make such a reference, but people who know me know that this is not true! Your first post showed me that you have evidential lack of knowledege to some of the most important variant figures like: PBP, ledy, Toptoys and so on.... So please forgive me and try to check out this forum for the knowledge you can read here and so on! Maybe then try to get to rebelscum and do some more research! There is tons of important material! This will be very exciting and interesting for ya....you now have material to read for month BTW: Did you already checked the links Uli posted?? Regards Wolff |

| thanks Wolff for the encouragement- as for the 500- I have 500 variants now in my collection for documentation. and i have near 4000 total figures in my hoarde of 30 years collecting, of which I have gone thru to find the most common US stamp /paint / Vars.
thusly the numbers.
I am not new to star wars collecting or buying selling- and the questions I had first posted were directly from the infamous misinformation source known as Ebay. I appreciate this forum , and the global perspective of Star Wars knowledge. I will be the first to admit I am not an expert on all the Europe Vars- and wil spend the next few weeks churning the back pages.
I am not wantying to step on anyones toe's - And have ween Wollf's pages of they are great!! I have been working toward this goal for near 2 years doing research on my lists- But again as I stated Mostly thru EBay until a few months ago when I began to discover other resources. So forgive my Naivety, I assure you I'm a quick learner.- but poor speller. Of importance to me is finding out also what figures are in Kenner baggies- Or carded - and noting them when possible. Example - - I just purchased 100 figs all with existing card backs- and was able to team up near 90 of em with the correct cards (ironically it left me with the exact figs for the Bespin and cantina playsets- which were also purchased in the collection . Ill check back in a few weeks and make a decision if it worth my time to post a Fig per fig data sheet for analysis. after I read up on past posts. etc.. maybe Ill learn a little more. best for now robert
