Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question or has been answered already but I have had about 6 hours sleep in the last 4 days Sleep Now I believe a U-grade if I am not mistaken is AFA will remove the figure from the card and give it a U for uncirculated, does AFA just do this or is there a place on the form you submit for grading that if checked they will then remove it or is this some new policy to save on plastic.

I was just wanting some clarification as I can't really find much on it.

Thanks
Larry

Thank you guys that does make it more clear and Walkie you summed it up perfectly lol. I have a 21 back moc death star droid I couldn't even think of having it removed from the bubble the card is what makes it cooler then just a loose one.

First of all. THE U GRADE SUCKS ASS!!!! Evil or Very Mad  There I got that out of the way.

I think the misguided draw of the U grade for a lot of collectors is the appeal of having a "card fresh, mint, never been touched figure." Also a lot of collectors are now obsessed with numbers. What I mean is they get more into the number on the grade than the figure. And a U grade figure has the potential to have a high number. Kinda like this, "There are 1001 AFA 85 loose Landos in AFAs population report. Meh he's too common. But there are only 7 Klaatus at a 95!!!!! Woo hooo I have an ultra rare figure!!!!!! I win the big dick pissing contest!!!!!!"

Now just to be clear. I'm just trying to show what may drive some collectors to do the U grade. I myself think it's wrong to U grade any figure from any line made before 1990. And anything after that is so common and new why bother with a grade of any kind.

I often wonder what is done with the cards and bubbles after a figure is U graded?

I would hope the card-back and all original packaging goes back to the person who sent it in. Does this not happen?

I assume the packaging returns to the owner. I've just never heard one way or another.

that is a good question with the packaging, I joined a group on facebook recently a baggie collecting one and one of the rules is if you are buying figures from the group and having them U-Graded you will be banned good idea as far as I am concerned. I still can't wrap my head around the idea of removing a figure from a sealed package just to have it now being a loose figure basically who cares if it is a fresh out of the package figure it is still now a loose one and that is how I would base my buying on. So now that I now know exactly what a U-Grade is I won't buy them unless I can get them for the same price as a regular one like a U85 Luke to me is worth the same as an 85 Luke they are both an 85 Grade.
