2 questions -

Whats with the Y? I can't seem to find anything on grading. I found the "U" thread, but no "Y"

and

Is there a checklist of grading points? What deducts from a piece?

The kids are bugging me about sending several of their pieces for grading, and my BIG question is it worth the costs for a plastic case & sticker? I understand protecting the condition, but is it needed for value??

Yeah, I know the crooks are out there with the fake "rare" items, so authentication would make sense for a true rare piece, but more common ones (that didn't take the months house payment to acquire), do they need it also?

Awesome! That will help me alot! Now the kids have a new game... find the defect.

I'd say it might be worth it right now, as AFA items seem to be popular. However it can change quickly.

Generally speaking, it it's an AFA 80 or higher it may be worth it. Under that, don't bother unless it's for a rare item
