AFA Grade? Empty
PostSubject: AFA Grade?   AFA Grade? I_icon_minitimeTue Apr 23, 2013 2:59 pm

I saw a Kellerman piece from ebay that had Darth Vader – AFA 80Y ESB 48 Back on the listing. I understood most of it...

2 questions - :SOS:

Whats with the Y? I can't seem to find anything on grading. study I found the "U" thread, but no "Y"

and

Is there a checklist of grading points? What deducts from a piece? unsure

The kids are bugging head bang me about sending several of their pieces for grading, and my BIG question is it worth the costs for a plastic case & sticker? I understand protecting the condition, but is it needed for value?? unsure

Yeah, I know the crooks are out there with the fake "rare" items, so authentication would make sense for a true rare piece, but more common ones (that didn't take the months house payment to acquire), do they need it also?

I know I'm all full of questions & am glad that people are friendly & helpful. It seems like a community meeting here. Thanks!

Hey welcome to TIG.

Y stands for Yellow bubble in case of MOC pieces.

Here is a link to the grading scales which are used by AFA.

I guess, others can help you much further.

Cheers

I'd say it might be worth it right now, as AFA items seem to be popular. However it can change quickly.

Generally speaking, it it's an AFA 80 or higher it may be worth it. Under that, don't bother unless it's for a rare item
