I've had a lot of PM's and emails asking what's up. This is the gist of it basically.

I've just had my butt chewed out over the last week for a few things, so I am walking a fine line now there as it is.
I think I racked up two verbal warnings for posting OT pictures (Monkey laughing pic, and the frangers) + A language filter violation + Was also told to remove my signature. At that rate...seriously, I didn't think I would last much longer, even if I wanted to stay.

The mods seem to be coming out in force now after the Joe Y thing. Crossing all the t's and dotting all the i's. I guess Phillip has been chewing their arses out lately as well. We know a guy like me, won't last long in that sort of enviroment, and honestly, I would prefer if my account was active so I can still communicate with some of the members who don't hang out on the other forums.
Having said that, really, this is the best course of action for me.
Hope it explains it a little. I wasn't trying to make a fuss. Just wanted to say thanks and bye to the crew who ONLY really hang on RS.
It's a changing environment there, that's all. One, I feel, a guy like me can no longer exist in, and enjoy myself at the same time.

I have the feeling that more of the vintage regular posters are at least visiting,if not posting here on TIG already. My "suspension" is up next week. I will not be returning as an active poster to RS. I too plan on keeping my account, but more for using the classifieds than anything else.
Glad to see that others ,like you Josh, have their eyes open to the changes that are happening and are viewing them with the same distaste.

Once I read the thread of yours the other day, I kinda figured something went down. I cant add much on the subject except what was said already, but I can say that RS is changing alot. And to me, it didnt really start with Joes banning either, it was way before that. The place just wasnt as laid back as when I first joined.

Ya I got a PM too for putting up a pic saying "Look out everyone we got a badass over here" in the topic where some guy was saying this place (TIG) was useless and something about JoeO living in his mother's basement. It was a very cordial PM but I didn't think my "attitude" was a problem. I guess they have a set idea on how they want those forums to run and you gotta stay straight and narrow on that path. That is fine but can get a bit drab.

I thought you would of got one for that.

It is just getting too serious for me, and most of my posts are a little OT, so that pretty much counts me out from now on, anyway.

It is lonely on scum these days. I've been checking out TIG more recently too.

It's hard for me to comment on stuff like this, obviously anything in the affirmative appears self serving.

All I'm going to say is that we try to make TIG a place where everyone is invited to be themselves. We have rules like anyone else, but it's mostly stuff that we luckily don't need to enforce often. Sometimes the overt freedom causes better behavior since it's not taboo to be a little......"Joshy" (I know you're lovin that Josh)

Seriously though, I have loved Rebelscum. I located and picked up almost all of my favorite pieces, made some fantastic friends and learned a ton about my hobby there. What's been going on as of late just sucks. I guess nothing is ever permanent, and everything changes eventually, it just seems like shit's getting lamer and lamer over there. Pretty soon, it'll just be a buncha noobs talking about blue snaggletooths and how to spot a fake vinyl jawa.

Sucks, but at least we have this place, which feels more and more like home every day.

I am the sort of guy who can find the funny side of most things. It get's me in the shit sometimes, I am aware of that. But I honestly think I am pretty tame on RS. As I told the Ritz in a PM...I try very hard to hold back on there as it is. Anymore and I am not being myself. So if a pic of a chimp laughing is OTT, I'm fucked basically. It just doesn't get much tamer than that from me. :scratch:

Yeah, Josh, things seem to be changing over at RS. Not for the better, IMO. I can't argue with your leaving.

I think that Joe's suspension and Philip Wise's comment on the whole thing was just a bit much. And I have to say this...James Gallo's comment about how all RS members dropped the ball because we didn't report the thread when the comments started getting out of hand....well, that's just a bunch of finger-pointing "it's not our fault, it's YOUR fault" bullshit. James seems like a decent guy, and has helped me in the past, but shifting the blame like that is just ridiculous.

About a year ago, I actually reported someone (via PM) directly to a mod (GNT, whoever the fuck that is) about what I felt were some blatantly homophobic remarks made towards another RS member. What happened? Absolutely fucking NOTHING. I didn't even get a response about the matter. So, in my experience, why should I even bother reporting anything, if they don't do shit in the first place?

Too bad that heated "off the cuff" comments, "knee jerk" reactions, and the subsequent fallout, can have so much impact on a community.

That is piss bloody poor that GNT did F-all about that.
But if the POTF2 section there is anything to judge his moderating skills on...I can see why. His answer to moderating is lock all forums up and make the members ask if it is okay to post a thread. Not exactly encouraging discussion.
No wonder he has 50,000 posts of his own though

I agree 100% with you. The newer mod's have taken shit to far. I hope that Mike Ritter does well over there.

I have known/met James Gallo a number of times. Personally, I think he is nice,but he has been known to piss some people off.

Scum is quietly fading away and I place the BLAME squarely on Philip Wise. His dickhead arrogant response about him being the all knowing Mighty Dictator will be the reason that some very experienced collectors give him the finger.. Oh well..

i think a was quite ative on rs since 2003. I will only sell/buy from noone on rs but wont share knowlege ir contribute to the hobby anymore. I would leave completely if the classified section here was more crowded.

That post from Philip did it for me too. I understand it is his house, his rules etc. but I visit the forums for the tenants not the owner. I would rarely post and just read and soak everything in. But lately there isn't much, I've noticed the vintage board posts seem to be waaaay down. Once the advertisers notice maybe he will change his tune?

Philip Wise made himself Galactic Emperor with that comment about him being the ultimate power in the RS galaxy and if you don't obey you will be destroyed. It seems like he is taking his Star Wars fanactics a bit too far With a post like that from the owner of the forum doesn't make you feel welcome at all. No wonder that people start looking for other places to discuss things without being censored and feeling like you're living in China.

TIG has potential to be the No.1 forum for Star Wars collecting. It is up to us, the members, to make this the place to be. I've seen a lot of familiar names from RS sign up here on TIG the last month. If you do the majority of your posting here on TIG then slowly RS will be less fun to visit. I also agree with you that for now the classified section on RS is better and has more reach. So I will be keeping my eye on that section on RS, but for the overall experience I really enjoy TIG more. It has a more familiar feeling and feels like a more pleasant community. One thing is of course the fact that TIG has less members making it's easier to get to know what kind of person that hides behind the nickname. I hope that all the new members here on TIG will get that same feeling making this their home for Star Wars Vintage collecting.

When I got my message from their mod, saying I was banned till the middle of the month... I told them they would lose a lot of people treating people that way (banned w/o warning). Looks like it could be happening. I have no reason to ever go back to RS.

The way things are on RS now, I really have no use to return. I can even get buy without the classys section to sell in. Today was my first time checking out RS in over a week I think. And I went simply to see what Josh was talking about.

You can hang out here Josh. We'll let "almost" anyone in.

I'm finding that sharing things from time to time on FB and the colletor related groups there are adaquete
for my level of social interaction. It's a matter of choice really, and due to recent events, I can say my choice is
that I see little to no personal value in regular contributions on some forums. What I do like about the general
atmosphere here in the genuine enthusiam, sense of humor, and tolerance that I personally find refreshing.
I think a lot of people will be making decisions about their level of social interaction(s) in the near future, and
I'm one of them.

For me I think FB is more for just checking out what you're friends are up to. Not so much for serious discussions about different stuff. I'm part of several groups on FB, but I hardly visit them ever. For me I enjoy to have my Star Wars discussions on a forum dedicated to Star Wars. It's more accessable to me. Also, I can go for months without visiting FB.

Thank You !! Trust me, I still have a lot of fun with what I do, and part of me still enjoys the social end of things. But
I'm over the whole politics BS, and other insanity I see going on right now. (have been for a while actually). I do my
own thing, and if someone doesn't like it, then that's their problem, not mine. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be
in line with the general ideology of various communities. I don't start or create drama, it's more of a binary process -
I'm either on or off. I think it's best simply to say that I've come to appreciate why several collectors choose to keep
to themselves.
But, getting back to the OP, and some of the follow ups I've read - I'm not surprised in the least. Anyone can throw a
party. You can hire "security", pay for everything, set up rules etc. But the one thing you can't control is the quality of
the of people who choose to attend, and those who choose to stay.
