Han Bespin Leg colour Empty
PostSubject: Han Bespin Leg colour   Han Bespin Leg colour I_icon_minitimeMon Apr 13, 2020 6:50 am

Hi, I'm not a regular on here but delve into Star Wars figure collecting every now and then. With the current shutdown I'm going through my collection and looking at collecting different variants that I don't have.
Just picked up a few figures and I've got a Han Bespin (HK) with different coloured legs. One light brown and one green. Anyone come across this before. Thought initially it could be sun fade but the colour is uniform even on the inside of the leg.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Cheers

PostSubject: I actually collect them!   Han Bespin Leg colour I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 17, 2020 4:33 am

I am new here as well and my collection is small compared to most everyone here but I have 2 with the wrong color legs on them with all 4 legs are from different colors. Those are fun but my coolest one is one that has purple hair due to simple lack of solids in the paint. If you are interested in selling him let me know because I would be interested to continue my collection. They are a little rare but I don’t think they are rare enough to make them crazy expensive like some other factory mistakes are. David

Hi, thanks for the reply. Just looked at your post ref Han Purple Hair and can see you have several with different coloured legs. I was beginning to wonder if someone had took apart and put different legs on.
Sorry, but wont be selling as this will go in the collection as an oddball.

Cheers

I hope you enjoy looking for them as much as I do. I’m glad you saw those pics since I forgot to tell you on the last post. I hope you saw the one where the legs are so similar in color that the person I bought it from didn’t even know they were 2 colors. The pictures may have made it more obvious but in real life they are extremely hard to tell. Good luck and enjoy the hunt because they aren’t very common to just run across. Oh, I forgot to mention that everyone ive seen has the COO like yours and all of mine do as well. The weird part is they are on the reversed sides that are most commonly seen. Enjoy. David

https://www.imperialgunneryforum.com/t3379-everything-you-always-wanted-to-know-about-discolored-figures-but-were-afraid-to-ask?highlight=discolored

Stuff like this is basic discoloration of the plastics. Why some get affected more than others i can't say. I can say they didn't leave the factory this way as no one ever remembers a figure looking like this hanging on store pegs and Kenner and other factories wouldn't have wanted the figures to look this way. The link above has some of the more common ones but you can find plastic discoloration from every factory. These are 40 year old toys after all and they were molded in plastics rather than made of tin and fully painted so they have all seemingly began to degrade to some degree. Some worse than others.

PostSubject: There is more to it than what you are talking about   Han Bespin Leg colour I_icon_minitimeFri May 01, 2020 1:42 am

So far I know of 3 different figures that they used that specific color on and all of them that had that paint applied are Purple whenever they are in a well lit situation. Also they have the same reverse COO etc on their legs whenever possible. They are all L.F.L. 1980 MIHK. If it is color degradation then everyone that was made all degraded at the same speed and to the same degree. I simply find the fact that no one else has ever pointed this out before. They are pretty common figures so why aren’t people noticing it? That is the real question that I can’t ignore. It will probably end up being a question that I’ll never know the answer to. In about another week and I’ll show everyone the other examples of the few times that this specific paint was used and I’m going to wait to point out the very rare Lili Ledy that is known to have used it if I didn’t mention it before now. The purpose of that is linking that single figure to the others. How can they possibly be linked is my question for you. Talk about this again in a week or so. Thank you for your opinions. I have appreciated them all but none so far have answered all of the WHAT IFS which is all I want.

Just so I enderstand your argument, you are saying you know of 3 different figures with the same coo thus likely being produced in the same factory using the same paint and that all 3 have the same color? Pretty sure that would be how paint manufacture is......if I paint different houses side by side with the same exact paint supply they will all be the same color. Even if the paint begins to degrade since they all are in the same geographic location and given the areas that had more or less the same exposure they would even fade or degrade the same.

It isn't that they aren't noticed. Many people know of the various ways the discolorations have occurred, it is just they aren't considered to be variants.

As far as the ledy figure, first we would need to make 100% sure it is a ledy. You posted about the purple head han and I can 100% assure you that isn't a ledy. So misidentification is a possibility.

PostSubject: Do you know that LL made at least one figure with that color?   Han Bespin Leg colour I_icon_minitimeFri May 01, 2020 11:13 pm

Look on Variant Villain under Bespin Princess Leia. There are 2 shown with one being blonde and the second has this color that we are talking about. It is stamped as from L.F.L. IN 1980 and listed as made in China. I know LL used second hand stamps for their markings but I find it odd that they only made one figure with a small amount of this color for her hair but on nothing else. Just looking at the leg shapes would force them to use an odd COO stamp. Do you not find this odd with how common second hand stamps were used and everything with this color is from L.F.L. With COOs of China or Hong Kong. Even the 2nd Leia from LL with the blonde hair was stamped as Hong Kong. It could have happened that way but is it not a little too convenient to ignore without making sure they only used that color on Leia and Leia alone. Please do not think that I disagree with you just simply that there seem to be a little to many oddities that can’t be easily ignored. Unlike many people on tig, I always keep in mind that it is a forum. I agree that almost all truths can be found in one or possibly numerous places on here however I do not take tig to be the ultimate in truths simply a resource to help learn the truth. I am a member of several other forums that were started because of so many people take tig as the Star Wars Bible and refuse to consider that it may not all be true. I think this post has finished all I have to say regarding this color question. Thank you for your interest. I appreciate hearing all points of view. May the farce not be with you always.
