Making Sense out of Yoda's Cane Colors Empty
PostSubject: Making Sense out of Yoda's Cane Colors   Making Sense out of Yoda's Cane Colors I_icon_minitimeSun Mar 04, 2018 11:23 pm

I can't for the life of me find a good reference pic for the colors of Yoda's canes. I also can't pin down just how many color variations there are, or mold changes. But, I have 3 colors and 2 different molds in my own collection, and I'm hoping someone can help me sort this out.

From left to right...

1. This is what I always thought of as the "light brown" cane. It's almost a yellowish brown. It is also of a different mold, with significant increase in details.

2. This is what for a long time I thought would be considered "dark brown" because it's obviously darker than the other, but then someone else said it's just a darker light brown. 2-4 have the same mold

3. Dark reddish brown that seems to be the common "dark brown" cane you find on eBay.

4. Ledy cane which is slightly different than 3, but just a hair.

Am I missing any? And is there any guide to which Yoda had which cane? I know the Yoda variantions seem to be very well pinned down, but I can't find a public source, like I said, detailing colors, mold, etc. I didn't picture my Yodas, but I have "Applehead," "Cherry Eyes" (light green, has the MIHK tag), a Ledy, and a dark green with dark brown Pacman eyes instead of black. Except for obviously the Ledy, the only other matched with a cane was "Cherry Eyes" who came with the very pale brown cane. The others were purchased separately.

Thanks for the tips

Found this just doing a quick search, there is a Yoda focus collector but I can recall his me at the moment that would be an excellent resource to ask. I will see later if I can dig his name up.

Hi Cal,

I might be able to help you a tiny bit on the orange snake yodas ... through my initial research during my ongoing loose variant run, I have both a Smile (HN) and Unitoys (HT) now, so I can show you the various difference in cane mould and colour.

Here's a shot of the two from when I post them in the new purchases section:

The one on the right with the yellow footer is from Smile; the one the left is from Unitoys. It might be a trick of the light, but the Smile version seems a little darker.

I also have a MOC Unitoys to help me verify the cane on my loose one:

What I can do, is get both canes out and take a comparison photo of each (side by side), so that you may see any differences and help verify your own. I have a loose brown cape, but I can't verify anything yet as he was bought by me loose in the 90s and so may have mixed-up accessories.

Depending on how the little guy is tonight (teething quite bad), I try and get back to you once I am home tonight from work and have a moment free. If not tonight, I will get back as soon as I can.

Regards, Craig

Nice one Bryan (you are the sage of info!)

Based on that photo and my own - does that mean the Top one is from Smile and the middle one from Unitoys.

Does any have a Kader (HG) Yoda, curious to know if they made an orange snake Yoda. Would be great to see how this thread pans out.

Bryan is the master of search. I am not. I did search, it's true, but my powers are weak meaning I have a short attention span and get tired of ready threads quickly.

So, there are definitely 2 shades of light brown. It also seems that there is only one shade of dark brown, which is what I've found just looking around. Someone described a less red dark brown cane, but I've never seen one that I know of.

Craig, you appear to definitely have two cane colors, and maybe they correspond to skin tone for the green guy, which is another theory I've heard, since it seems the lighter skinned Yoda has the lighter cane. But, I did speak to a Yoda collector some months ago, and he told me at the time that there were two shades of light brown, but from what he said, it seems they might be interchangeable, too.

Is there any way to determine site of manufacture without having a MOC? Are the skin tones an indicator? Craig, I'm also seeing more shine on the Smile Yoda. Is that true? The Unitoys accessories look more matte to me. This is a characteristic I'm seeing in my light brown canes as well. The lighter has more gloss.

Here's a pic of the so-called "Cherry Eye" Yoda. You see his eyes are a dark reddish brown, and has very pale skin color. I'm thinking that the lighter, glossier cane belongs to him.

(Master of the Universe of Search Engines) That Bryan is Very Happy

OK so if there are two shades of light brown, does that mean the two different shades also have different sculpts - indicating two factories? As that is what I have found with my research so far with the orange snake. For the dark brown/green snake versions - I only have one loose figure so have no idea what I am looking at until I get a carded or bagged sample. I need to dig out him from my loose stash and have a look at his COO markings.

Have a look at the end of my reply below, I have taken more photos for you. My MOC and loose Unitoy are definitely the same figure, but I have noticed that the green is a slightly different colour (might be due to age or different batch of green plastic, bubble tint, etc.) However, the (eye) paint apps look the same; the cane is also the same and the snake and belt look identical. The belt "buckle" behind Yoda (if I look at the bubble sideways) is also flush look at my photos below to see this on the loose fella.

It hard for me to tell but both my canes seem to have same level of glossiness.

Looking at your Yoda above in the quote - WOOOOO!!! I didn't know there's a cherry eyes version!!! - Your Yoda's cape and shiny belt look like my Unitoys accessories to me, which means the correct cane to go with them would be light one (based pure on the Unitoys sculpt that I have in my hand.

Is the figure 100% original to the accessories?

See COO comparision here:

Making Sense out of Yoda's Cane Colors Img_8117

Left is Unitoys (Stretched "Hong  Kong" COO) ... Right is Smile (Squashed "HongKong" COO)

More photos... Where possible I have indicated the smile version, using his trusty footer with the "S" marking the smile version.
