PostSubject: Seeking Advice on how to sell a large collection in Colorado   Seeking Advice on how to sell a large collection in Colorado I_icon_minitimeSat Nov 14, 2015 8:25 pm

We have a large collection of vintage star wars and POTF items near Denver, Colorado.  I'm guessing the right time to sell is now, ahead of Christmas and the new movie.  The cost of our storage locker is a drain we don't want to carry into 2016.

I'm looking for advice on Colorado dealers or aficionados whom I should contact.  My plan is to take the collection from our storage locker to a rented meeting space for review by potential buyers -- hopefully meeting everyone on the same afternoon.

1. Are there any Denver/Boulder locals on this forum with suggestions?

2. I see there are barcode apps that will help me price items, but some of my items represent Complete Sets, how would an app account for that?

Thank you,
Aji

Off the top of my head, I don't know anyone on the boards in Colorado. I am sure there probably are some. One option to get potential buyers would be craigslist as I have an aunt there I search through them on occasion to see if she can pick up items on occasion. You can search for toy stores in Denver, I am sure there is one at least. Mile high comics main hub is in Denver I think and they could also be interested or point you in the direction of someone who is. For top money just list them up on eBay and let the market decide. Dealers will undercut to try to make more profit. If the potf stuff you speak of is the 90's stuff my suggestion is take whatever you can get. Very few of those figures are worth much and the ones that are were sold in short supply. We can maybe gauge a value in generality for you with r new so can't upload directly, but take some and put them on photobucket or something and add the link here and we should be able to see them.

Taking photos is a great idea. I don't want to go thru the work of an itemized list but with photos I don't have to. I'll get on that later this week. Thank you!

(Still looking for guidance from Colorado locals if you're out here Smile

not sure if will help but I did a quick check for auction houses in Denver and there are a few by the looks of it here is the main site link to a bunch http://www.dexknows.com/local/retail/auctions/geo/m-denver-co/att/auction-houses/?gclid=CP-IkN_PkckCFcVlfgodltsAOQ

One thing about auction houses is they can help with appraisals and you can set a reserve limit so you can get what you ask for. Hope it helps

Hi Aji

Welcome to the boards. Let's see some photos and hopefully we can gauge the market. Auction houses are great, but you sometimes can be on the hook for big percentages. So be careful.

You can Email pics to me if you want, I'll post them up. I Emailed you earlier about your account so you should have my address.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Darth, will do. (I'm aiming at Th/Fr/Sa. I've got a big project due Wednesday close of business and need to get to the storage locker.)

Well, I've been to the storage locker and examined the collection. Sadly, the ratio of collectibles from Ep IV,V,VI is slim compared to the amount of POTF and Ep1. Lots of cinema scenes from POTF and some figures. Lots of micro machines. Plenty of everything from Episode One. Going to consider holding til after the new movie, since there's only about a dozen items that are worth more than $30 on ebay.

Thanks for all the support!
