| At a recent employee meeting, we were informed that they would be monitoring what we say on FB.
What the hell bussines is it of theirs if we want to vent about our crappy day or night at work?
How can they do that any way? |

| My 1st question would be what line of work are you in? When you sign on to work at most companies you do sign off a few liberties. |

| Pretty much anything goes here on TIG, but we do need to be careful with political comments. But while we are on the subject "Socialist health care reform" doesn't your health care system really suck? Here in Aus it doesn't matter who you are or what you did, if you need medical attention it basically costs you nothing. As for employers watching your facebook- don't you have to be 'friends' to see each others facebook? I dunno- I don't do facebook |

| Well its not uncommon anymore for businesses to realise that negative comments on the internet can hurt their reputation.
Basically, FB is now the graffiti on the wall in your local town, anyone can scrawl on the "wall" and lots of people see it.
If you worked for Microsoft and your boss caught you spraying "Microsoft sucks" on the wall of your local school, most likely you would get the sack, I see writing on FB "Microsoft sucks" or any other negative comment about your company in the same light.
Personally, I know everyone moans about their jobs, but thats what family and friends are for, why on earth you need to tell the world how much you hate your job is beyond me and you should probably expect the sack if you do that lol |

I must agree that those kind of comments only snowball on forums and things can get out of hand so lets just stick to toys |

| I block facebook apart from before working hours and at dinner times...saves me the stress and the staff the risk of posting how pissed off they are whilst working. |

| Facebook is the DEVIL anyway, there are a few members that agree with me lol
What's wrong with being private and enjoying your life outside of the gaze of others! I have friends and colleagues that update their status even if they fart they are on it so much - horrible! |

I know exactly what you mean, its a pointless charade sometimes, some of my friends spend all day updating their status if they have a headache, what they have for dinner, how big their last shit was...well not that bad. lol Andy |

| There was this big deal a few months back were an employee wrote something on there facebook account about there employer and they got fired. Now this person got fired for it. I can't remember the details but it was big in the news for a couple weeks. After that, I think alot of business' started cracking down on online useage at work. But I agree, Facebook is fucked up. Who cares what someone did and when. If they need to update every few minutes to let the world know what they did, get out of the house more. Go to the clubs or something. Oh by the way, Update. I had 2 eggs and toast for breakfast with a cup of coffee. |

| I am not talking about FB usage at work.
I am talking about on your personal time.
I understand the need to block internet usage at work. You are not at work to surf the net. |

| The story I mentioned above was a case like that. Whatever you write on the web is free game, whether its your own free time or at work. Once its said, theres no taking it back. Look at the case where some teen age girls were talking about another girl about how ugly she was and fat and everything teens say these days. The girl they were talking about committed suicide over it and her parents sued the other girls for her death. This was on 20/20 a few months ago.
I know your not saying anything out of the way or anything, but some people can take what you say out of context and add things to it sound like you are and like Private Pyle on Full Metal Jacket, you'll be in a world of shit. Heres a good example why politics isn't allowed. My former boss' sons girldfriends brother wrote something on Facebook or on a blog one time about the president. So to say he got a visit from the C.I.A. about him making terrorist threats. I don't know the full details of what was said, but in this day and age, you have to be carreful of what you do say. |

| Facebook addicts seem to be everywhere this days i tend to stay away from the site.
One of my mates ex girlfriends from long ago had commented on a recent picture him saying he still looked hot and it caused all sorts of shit with him with his mrs!
We should try and stay away from politics as much as possible!
But....
Regarding Obamas changes i find it hard as a UK guy to understand why making healthcare more accessible to US citizens is a bad thing  For me healthcare is a basic human right and not something only those with cash should be entitled to. I watched a documentary once where they were using US football stadiums as emergency medical centers for the poor and our red cross workers where out there helping it looked like something you would see in Africa.
None of this is mean to cause offense at all lads i guess i just dont understand this as my world is very different on this issue as like AJ i live in a country where healthcare is a right for everyone and costs nothing.

Jay,I agree on both parts, staying away from politics and the health care thing. But what the problem is, the government wants to control everything lately. Sure, everyone should have some form of health care, but not forced to have it. I believe they are going after the frequent flyers who love going to see a doctor every chance they get who end up costing millions of dollars a year. All in all, we'll see how well it goes from here. If not so well, you and AJ might have some new neighbors. End of politics talk. |
