my new "Gross MOC Run" Empty
PostSubject: my new "Gross MOC Run"   my new "Gross MOC Run" I_icon_minitimeSat Jul 05, 2014 2:17 pm

OK, this is what I am calling my "Gross MOC Run" that just started as an idea as I stared at my Palitoy 12B Vader wondering how I could showcase him better. So after a while and some beer and researching, it came to me.

The concept is this...

There are 12 figures in the initial run (and they are what got me into the hobby late in 2012) ...
There are 12 main card back 'batches' (not including letter variations, just the main types) ...
They are the 12, 20, 21, 31, 32, 41, 45, 47, 48, 65, 77 & 79 backs (POTF and TriLogos excluded) ...
All first 12 figures can be found on one of those 12 back batches.
12 x 12 = 144 AKA, a Gross Wink  lol!

Voila! A "Gross MOC run".  Stormie Smiley I guess its a catchier name than 12 on 12 Run or whatever.
And yes, it doesn't consist of 144 figures, nor do I think there are 144 possible combinations... just let me have the name! Laughing

My goals are long term and simple but should be an everlasting, fun journey and I am sure I will learn a ton along the way! Smile

I will be accepting MOCs in almost any condition except no major cracks in the bubbles. Tiny cracks in dented areas are OK.
Rough cards, yellowed or dented bubbles are all to be considered.

I will upgrade or swap pieces as time moves forward to change their display order around.
I will accept a non US Kenner back and hope to get a few along the way.

The only rule I placed on myself is that R2 and C-3PO must be the originals so I am limited to 12 - 41 backs there.
Death Squad Commander's name MUST be DSC, so I am limited to 12 - 21 backs there.

So here is my start.
7 down and 1 on its way to me soon.

Already have a miscard (Jawa upside down bubble) and a cool dark haired Luke.   Cool

Not a bad start I think.

I plan to keep this updated as my journey continues!
I hope you like!

I never heard of anyone doing this type of run, but if you have, please let me know. I would love to see someone else's version of it.

Great idea for a set! I've never seen a pic before of every cardback in a row. They would all make a nice poster if put together.

I am glad that this is progressing and I am now down to one and I think he is gonna be a bitch to get to fill the final spot.

3 new additions to the GMR...
ESB 32A C-3PO
ESB 47A Sandpeople
ESB 48A Chewbacca (AFA 75)

11 down - 1 to go

I know the condition is far from desirable but as part of the fun, upgrades over time and re-ordering. Smile But I think they display pretty well.  Stormie Smiley

Straight upgrades in their existing order are gonna be much easier than upgrades/re-ordering at the same time, but that's fine by me!

Now... anyone have any leads on a Han Solo 45 back (legit, non-Toy Toni GM or Palitoys are fine - condition and price conditional of course).  Cool

Still learning a lot during this. Seems some of my order choices have forced me into rarer items in some back versions. But.... who cares! haha tongue

cheers!

Thanks fellas!

It has been fun and very educating!
It is very nice to have traveled well outside and beyond all things Leia Bespin, but I really feel that research helped a bit. But the whole MOC collecting thing on a spectrum like this has been cool!  Cool

And, I just posted this in the latest acquisitions thread, but it needs to be here too........

cheers

Stage 1 of the Gross MOC Run complete!

Han has some staple holes but looks great on display. Very cramped and I will work on that a bit more somehow.

Now the real fun will begin with tracking down the upgrades and re-ordering them more to my liking (which I have decided on yet).

But anyway... I really love the way this came together.
3 Star Wars cards
6 ESB
3 ROTJ

A nice balance to start with, but I would love a Star Wars stickered 32 back and an ROTJ 48 back to make it 4 a pop.
A ton of potential.

The nice thing here is these all were sourced from many places.

Anyway.......  cyclops cheers cyclops

haha
GMR baby! tongue

Post #1 updated with Stage 1 picture and Han info.

cheers!

Congratulations on completing stage 1 Jay, and quickly too. The run looks great displayed together.
Good luck with the upgrades, I'll certainly look forward to your updates.  Very Happy

Looking at it again... man, I would love:
4 SW backs - 1 with offer
4 ESB backs - 1 with offer
4 ROTJ backs - 1 with offer

 geek

I need balance........ haha

As much as I liked the GMR on one shelf, it really bugged me I couldn't see the art!

So a sacrifice has been made (maybe temporarily?) to help show the GMR better.
I went from 3 shelves for my Leia B focus down to two. So I still have two shelves for her alone, but now my MOCs are cluttered and not in order (OCD is on overdrive right now!!!!) to emphasize the more important bits.

BUT... I think I like this.... I think... maybe....................... thinking

GMR.......

Jay, your a master at electronics right?? How about a set-up with revolving shelves, that way your GMR would take up halve the room?
