Just had a close look at a 77 back and noticed a load of differences from the figures released. The obvious ones like the dark cloak squidhead and the red cape Bib Fortuna I've seen discussed before, but also noticed the:
Gold belt on Squidhead Unpainted boots of Lando skiff Orange/Brown cape Luke Jedi White staffed Wicket
Are any of these floating around the collecting world?
Also noticed:
Han Hoth with Bespin Blaster. Hoth Rebel, Hammerhead and Walrusface with Han Solo/Rebel Blasters.

Actually interesting pieces of Kenner pre production can be seen on most card backs if you look carefully.
On the 77 back the Squid Head with the black cape and gold belt is a protomolded figure. Most of the other black cape Squid Heads seem to have the regular grey belt and the actual figure is very similar to the production version. I think the correct term would be a pre production sample. The red coat Bib is also a pre production sample. There are some first shot Lando Skiffs out there with unpainted legs but recently I came across the actual Lando Skiff with unpainted legs that was used in the photography for the 77 back and it is termed a photo sample. A lot of the photo samples in the 77 back photo are regular figures but some may have been changed slightly for the purpose of photography. For example the wicket. I suspect the spear was actually spray painted white to help it stand out. The Vader and Tie pilot torso have been spray painted with a grey paint to make them also stand out and make the light reflect better. Some of the figures have glue on the feet and even some remains of the scenery they were attached to. Others have wax in the hands and on their weapons where they were held in place.
I have a first shot wicket which is molded in a darker brown plastic and also has a dark brown hood and spear. It was actually used in the Kenner card back photography and if you look at the POTF card back you can actually see the darker figure, hood and spear.

Interesting stuff, Oli. The Wicket sounds like a super pick up with a nice story behind it.
