| Subject: Atari ET games burial - urban legend proved true today? Sat Apr 26, 2014 4:01 pm | |
| Photo: Twitter Photo: Twitter Photo: Twitter An urban legend confirmed? Just a couple of hours ago, at a site in New Mexico, copies of the Atari ET game were discovered. In 1983 it was rumoured that millions of these games (and also rumours of other Atari games including prototypes and even a proto console) were buried following disastrous reviews of the overproduced game. From: Wikipedia "E.T. is frequently cited as a contributing factor to Atari's massive financial losses during 1983 and 1984. It is generally inferred that a result of overproduction and returns, millions of unsold cartridges were buried in an Alamogordo, New Mexico landfill. In 2013, plans were revealed to conduct an excavation to determine the accuracy of reports about the burial. This rumor was confirmed in April of the following year, as diggers found the cache of buried cartridges." |
