PostSubject: Meccano Yoda   Meccano Yoda I_icon_minitimeSun Jan 16, 2011 5:57 am

Hi guys,

I recently bought this loose Yoda figure. He has COO no. 5 according to Wolff's COO guide.

The cane feels quite differerent compared to all the other canes I have, it is quite flexible, feels a bit like rubber. I don't think it is repro, cause it has a molding circle, which you also see with other canes, for instance PBP/Lili Ledy canes.

Anyone has an idea what the origin might be of this little green guy? (I mean apart from Dagobah Very Happy)

The Yoda you have is the Meccano Yoda. The stick should be a bit more reddish than the one of the brown snake.

Some say that the Yoda sold on POTF card is identical to the Meccano Yoda but I never put one off POTF card so I can't confirm this Smile

Hi James and Ueli,

Many thanks for your input.

The seller had not seen this figure before, and thought it might be Lili Ledy. Well I knew for sure it wasn't, but had no clue what else it could be. I took the risk and bought the figure, and now it appears to be a Meccano Yoda, cool! Very Happy

The cane is very reddish and rubbery. That is the cane belonging to the Meccano Yoda?

Yep that is the correct cane for that figure. The belt also is a bit special if I remember correct and the snake's colour also differs to the common Hong Kong ones (different shade of color but very subtile).

Got some questions on this Yoda I received recently in a large lot Very Happy

What really is weird to me is the cane , like with this Mecanno Yoda that was discussed here in this thread , the figure I have has a very rubbery cane (but lacks the EPM mark) . That Mecanno Yoda passed through my hands on its way to Marco so I remember how flexible the cane was . I have no idea of the origin of the one I currently have and I seriously doubt that its a Meccano but , this thread was the most closely related info I could find while searching old threads unsure

Meccano Yoda Dsc04611
Meccano Yoda Dsc04612
Meccano Yoda Dsc04613
Meccano Yoda Dsc04614
Meccano Yoda Dsc04615
Meccano Yoda Dsc04616
Meccano Yoda Dsc04617
Meccano Yoda Dsc04618

I am fairly confident that the accessories are original to the figure since he was the only Yoda in the large lot I bought , but you never know if accessories were mixed up by children long ago . However , All the other accessories in the lot were without a doubt vintage .

so ...

(My main question) Do you guys believe the cane authentic as well ?

if so , I would also like to know if it has any links to any country or cardback release ?

Looking at the coo stamp it looks closest to a #1 on Wolff's older coo cart - the LFL seems to be upshifted a bit though so its not identical - is it the same "coo family" at least   I don't think its the "Mecanno" coo or even in that "family"

Thanks guys !!!!!!!!!

1. The cane is real. These also exist with EMP

2. Cannot be given IMO a very comon Yoda in some areas of this world Very Happy

3. It is not related to Mec/POTF Yoda IMO...wrong mold, family etc.

And I think POTF and Mec have EMP accessories. edit: POTF has no circles....not sure on MEC, because Uli above said it has?? IMO POTF and Mec are very close...especially on the accessories. The only difference I found is the eyecolor and the cape color, which could have happend by accident/change in production. We all have to face the possibilty that these could be the same....no matter how hard we do not want them to be.

I check my Yoda bible...hang on!

Okay...here we go again:

1. The Small COO with bold font:  The accessories that come with this mould NEVER have circular mold ejection marks

2. In my bible (Illseeker and cocofstar) I have following cards on Mold #1,HK,  rubbery cane:

ESB 41 - ROTJ 79, Trilogo.

So you see, it is a pretty comon one....especially in the US.

The EMP or circled marked Yodas always were called: "European Yodas". In fact people with way more knowledge then me on Yodas, have always said that only the "large" copyright family has the EMP marks on cane, snake and belt! Which totally makes sense...

I will soon go more into details on Yoda. There is still some mysteries that need to be solved! Will go through them while making the Yoda coo sheet Wink

Thank you Wolff cheers

Answered every question I had

I didn't think he was meccano or very uncommon at all but at least the canes real (which was my biggest concern) . The cane just struck me as odd because it is so rubbery and had me worrying . I have seen quite a few Yodas but this is only the 2nd one that I have personally come across that had the rubbery cane and I was concerned that it might be a repo phew

now I have 2 more questions What a Face

do the other accessories look "coo accurate" ?

I think I read it correct that you said it is in the same family as #1 on your older coo chart ?

Was I correct that it isn't quite identical as the #1 pictured on your chart ?

I have terrible eyes but it looks like the LFL is shifted up a little to me - would this be a slight coo change or am I even blinder then I thought ? I guess like a I 1a , I 1B type of situation similar to how you have grouped and numbered the familys in your newly updated "Star Wars" coo charts ...

sorry for so many questions Embarassed

you're welcome!

Yes...it is a slight variant of that coo and will be in the new sheet as b I guess WinkWhat a Face

Snake should have no EMP....cannt see it from below. On the belt: I am unsure (if it is I or II)....but as said...I just need to go through mine...research...and detect the molds from the accessories and sort them to the families Wink

Will let you know...

okay...only a "quick" test....exceptions can happen: My apple green taken from cut card:

family II, the "other" belt with no EMPS at all.....so yours is correct for family I. (family III we all know....compare to LL Wink)

Anyway....seems everthing looks good here Very Happy

Best

Wolff---who now thinks it is finally time to make a guide on Yodas!

PS: THE FAMILIES ARE CALLED ALONG WITH THE OLD COO SHEET! They possibly will be labeled different in future (COO 3.0)! --> For future readers Wink!

okay...one last thing on that cane:

In the first pictures it appeared more brownish, dull....you know...not that reddish brown.

As said: I have that strange color with EPM (rubbery). But the canes that go along with family I, I only have reddish ones (no EPM, rubbery)......soooo....do i miss that cane or are the colors a bit off?? Because on the last pictures you could think color is normal?!?!?

that is not really true.....I have/had two Mec with brown eyes. Wink

If there is a differnece then that POTF has black eyes....BUT:

I am not sure if there is indeed a difference between POTF and Mec...wether accessories nor paint seems unique over all (eyes can be sparyed with a different charge of color or thicker or less thick=appearing brownish). So it is very possible it is just the same figure.

Indeed Meccano never produced figures on their own. So the only "special" figures we have to France are those from the french Trilogos. These are special because their coo is unique (not because of their paint)! So is the Yoda coo unique? NO!
Having the same coo and look they are for 99,9% surely prodcued by the same manufacturer. So Mec Yoda is very very probably a myth!

Interesting read, I was aware of the Mecc/POTF debate regarding the Meccano Yoda (with black eyes).

Rightly or wrongly (please don't shoot me!!) i'm leaving my Yoda with my Meccano figures for now as he came from a french childhood collection.

My photograpy skills suck big time - I deffinitely would say that the cane is reddish brown . The 1st pic does make it look dull brown but the pics of the cane alone are a much closer representation of its actual reddish brown color Very Happy

Comparison shots between:

  • Left figure: COO #5, Yoda which was obtained via James (Ourchickensack) a while ago (same figure as in the first post of this thread)
  • Right figure: COO #5, Yoda which was obtained via Lee a few weeks ago. Thank you, Lee. Very Happy

Meccano Yoda IMG_0511_zpseb920714

Meccano Yoda IMG_0512_zps1c12871d

Meccano Yoda IMG_0513_zps20b0b9d0

Both figures look very simalar: COO, green used for head and arms/feet, black Pac man shaped eyes. Capes, belt, snakes look the same as well.
Both canes are very rubbery and share the same colour.

Meccano Yoda Th_IMG_0514_zps2b7b7ee6

The only difference being , that one cane has a Ejector Pin Mark, wheras the other one lacks this. Normally the EPMs were reserved for the COO#3/#6 family? Not sure about this.  unsure

I guess, James picked up his Yoda in the US, so big chance this would be the so called POTF Yoda.
Whereas Lee picked yup his Yoda in France (please confirm), so this would be the so called Meccano Yoda.

So in that case, it seems that the POTF Yoda and Meccano Yoda are indistinguishable.
Confirming what has been discussed earlier in this thread.

Hey Marco,
Do you really think those yodas are indistinguishable? i can see a big difference in the cane(different mold), snake(different color) and color head, you can't see it??

I see your point Javi, and Nicolas.

When having the figures in hand the differences in the colour of the head are very subtle. If you hold two Kenner figures from the same COO family with the same paint apps, you will also notice these differences. Maybe due to a slight fading.
Same for the snake.

The cane is different because one has an EPM, the other doesn´t.

To all: Can you check your COO #5 Yoda canes: Rubbery? With or without EPM?

the same coo should share the same canes as well....what menas at least one of your figures got mixed up.

I am just saying: I had two Yodas in my childhood collection. I have always tried as a child to get back my lost cane from friends...and did. So one Yoda was naked and one was complete! If I had sold it would someone say: This came from card as it is??

Children always mix up their stuff! I cant see people always relying on "beeing from childhood" collection when this is over TWENTYFIVE years in the past!!!  Shocked Shocked Shocked

I bought cutcards for a while and I can say: 50% of my Yodas are 100% correct!!!  Cool  Cool  Cool

...and the rest came from "childhood" collections  Razz  Razz  Razz

I will dig out a picture on my Mec/POTF Yodas, but I still cant see why people do not accept: Meccano and POTF are the very same figures!?!?!?!?

Yes...there might be little differences from time to time......and I also think that POTF has a total different cape, but what we need is at minimum 5 of each on card (MOC) and compare those!!!

just my 2 cents on thsi issue!
