I was wondering if anyone else collected these things. I started down the path of these things with these two. Complete with the line art. And yes they are the fan club pieces, but still cool as can be.

Very cool Chris!

I'm slowly getting my feet wet in animation art myself. And let me tell you the bug has bitten me hard! I'll post up pics of my cels when I can get to a computer. Smile

Anyway, I find this area of the hobby absolutely fascinating and I am loving every minute of it!

Yhea I can't wait to get my new ones in. Just knowing your holding a piece of history that was actually used for a show is thrilling.

These cels are really great items to pick up and are very affordable. I have two cels that I'll try to get some pics of soon. Here's one of a background that I recently picked up. I'm still working on pinpointing where it was used and wether I can find a correct cel to go with it.

Lovely piece Shawn. Good luck on the hunt for a cell to go with it. I've been picking someones head on these things and I forgot to ask about the backgrounds on how to read them. Did the seller happen to tell what episode it was in?

Thanks Chris. I believe it should be from Episode 10 based on the E10A on the background. From what I understand though some of the episode numbers do not correspond with the order they aired. I sat through Wicket's Wagon last week and couldn't place where the background was used. I've been meaning to watch a few of the episodes near that one to see if it could be one of those. Here's a close up of the numbers.

Here is my background that I picked up recently. It also came with a Chirpa cel, but it doesn't match the background.

From what I have been able to gather about reading the codes on the bottom it goes Episode Number, Scene, Character.

So looking at the Boga cel you posted Chris, it should read like this: E5 (Ewoks Episode 5) 80 (scene 80) B10 (10th layer of animation for Boga for that scene). An interesting note is that E stands for Ewoks and D stands for Droids. Very Happy

And to echo what Shawn stated, the episode order that you find on the net, doesn't correspond to the order that they were produced in. Case in point is my background is from Episode 8. If you look on the episode list that would mean it's in Land of the Gupins. I've watched that episode and there is nothing that is remotely close to my background in there. However, I watched the Traveling Jindas which everyone calls episode 5 and it appears my background is in there. Which leads me to believe that episode 8 is ACTUALLY The Traveling Jindas, NOT the Land of the Gupins. Very Happy

Hope that makes sense! Wink

Love the enthusiasm you guys have got going on at the moment for the cells, I have seen Chris and Shawn going through lots of auctions lately Wink

It's very infectious I must admit, low cost (at times) side hobby!

Its crazy. I never watched Ewoks or Droids when I was younger (had other things on the mind besides cartoons Wink ), but seeing these things in hand really makes you appreciate the work that went into making these and the shows. And they are highly addictive, found my new crack in these things. No lol!

Chris that did help out on the background thing. What really hurts is if the number are the same for the cells, then I need 23 or more for the other cell I got. Now to get all the right episodes so I can find the matching backgrounds to go with them. Off to Ebay I go!!! :run2:

Rebelchris managed to find the episode my background was used in. cheers This goes to show just how out of whack the episode air date is with the numbers on the cels and backgrounds. My background says E10A which would make one think it should be Ewoks Episode 10, but going by air date it was actually from Episode 16 of Season 2 called Horville's Hut of Horrors.

Here's a screen grab of the episode. It looks like I need to find the cels for the bird and the bell on the tree post which might be difficult by how random of objects those are.

Ahh come on Shawn! I think we can find it! Very Happy It HAS to be out there. We just need track it down.

To echo what Shawn said, these episode air dates/numbers are all screwed up! And the worst part? There's no real pattern for any of it. Rolling Eyes

I'm slowly working on a spreadsheet that will hopefully help quite a bit when trying to track down episode numbers with actual production used cels. I have most of Season 1 finished up and have about 9 episodes of season 2 figured out. Very Happy

Here's a screen grab of my background. Like Shawn said, the actual air date and TV episode number for this is Season One - Episode 5 - Traveling Jindas. When in all actuality it's Episode 8 in the physical production of the cartoon.

Great detective work, Chris. Can't wait to see the finished product of the spreadsheet. Its just too bad that all info out there now has it all screwed up for the episode and air date.

Shawn, you got another pair of eyes out there helping you look for the cells. You'd be surprised, it might pop up soon. If I see it, I'll def let you know about it and maybe it might be one with most of the scene, plus the folder and dope sheet to complete it.

Those are some great backgrounds. It's nice to actually be able to see all the detail thats almost nonexistent in the low res episodes that are circulating around.

Here are two of my cells that I've been able to match with where they appear in the episode.

Got my first cel folder/dope sheet in the mail last night! Very Happy

This thing is cool! I'm still looking at all the various sign-offs and camera information. It's actually quite cool to take a journey back in history like this. It's missing a few parts to complete the whole series, but it's a very fun look into the process of creating the cartoon. The image of Bondo on the cover of the folder is taped on there. I managed to separate it, so I could look under it. Although, I forgot to to take a pic. I'll have to get that done this weekend.

Here is the dope sheet that has notes on the dialog and some more camera information. Along with any lip sync stuff. These are apparently quite uncommon to find.

Animation cells Ewoks_13

And lastly, a group shot of the cels that are included with the folder. All the original pencils are also present, but I didn't get a pic of them. Wink

Sweet! That things awesome, so much history in one little folder- just so much work went into the cartoons its unreal, its a pity Ewoks cartoons are pretty poor lol

Still, I find the whole process and the collectible side of animation quite interesting- its contagious as well Razz

Those are sweet, Chris. I'm kinda hoping now, after seeing the set, that the one I picked up is one of the missing ones your looking for. Now for you to find the right background so you can make all of us a short film of the cells together. Very Happy

Just read through this thread some very cool info and stuff guys!

I never really got into Ewoks / Droids but those animation cells and backgrounds are pretty cool!

I had a look on ebay for similar stuff but nothing turned up in my search is that where your picking things up from?

Cheers Jay

You got that right and I'm ready for AAA (Animated Art Anonymous) lol! I got 13 lots coming in and looking at a few more. But I think I'm going to stick to one episode and try to finish it.

Well I was stoked to come home today and see a nice package waiting on me. Heres my newest additions to the collection. I didn't take shots of everything, just the main parts.

Animation cells Img_1420
Six sets most complete with dope sheets.

Then when I was looking through one set from episode 6, I came across this.
Animation cells Img_1421
Color code for Chief Chirpa. I was really surprised to see that in the set.

Animation cells Img_1426
Animation cells Img_1425

Animation cells Img_1423

Animation cells Img_1427
Ice Heads from E6

Animation cells Img_1429
Duloks with battle wagon. I had to get it because the wagon is only featured in two episodes, I believe.

Animation cells Img_1430
Bondo from episode 8

Animation cells Img_1431
This is a 2 piece cell set. The ewoks are one part and the water is a seperate cell by itself.

That's a nice haul Chris! The battle wagon cel looks like it is from the Wicket's Wagon episode that I watched trying to find my cel. It is episode 10 of season 1 if you go by the air dates. I still need to get me one of those with the folders.
