Ok, so maybe I am an idiot and never realized this before. So I am texting a friend about a Lobot item and it tries to auto correct to Lobotomy. So it dawns on me that is probably were they got the name from. All these years I figured it was just some play on words with Robot. My friend and I discuss and he never thought of it either. Just curious if anyone else is as dumb as we are? Be honest
Thanks Todd

first off , let me be the 1st to admit that I am as dumb as you guys are - probably much dumber
it does make perfect since though - guess I just haven't put much thought into it before
I sense a Lobot entry in the "weird freaky creepy thread" in the near future

Sorry, but I'm not quite a dumb as you guys. Although probably clicked in my later years, rather than as a child.
Admiral Akbars home planet Mon Calamari is another that is likely chosen because looks like a sea creature or prawn. Although not a squid as the Calamari name suggest, so really should be Squidheads home planet.

I'm easily dumber than everyone, so there!!
As for Lobot being a shortened version of Lobotomy, I think you nailed it. If you check out the Wookieepedia page on him, his head was drilled as part of his conviction for stealing.
The Mon Calamari and Ackbar connection is another good one. If you really take the time to dissect the names, it's really pretty lame. Yak Face , Walrusman, Squidhead, Ree-Yees (basically just the words "three eyes" played with), etc..
Being a fan of referencing in TV and Movies (when they acknowledge another) I do like Klaatu, Barada and Nikto.
And in case you have no idea...........

I had always kind of hoped that George (or some other guy) had actually payed homage to Dr. Vornoff's menacing side kick in Bride of the Monster with Lobot, but just checked and it's actually Lobo minus the 'T'. Gutted! Either way, any excuse to play the greatest speech in film history!

In the film's credit's he is just known as 'Lando's Aide'.
Once I eventually noticed the lobotomy thing I've thought that Lobot was one of those cheesy names like Walrus Man and Squid Head only this time they ran with it past the 1980s.
